13 Parks near Elk River, Minnesota
Oct 2015 - $30.00
We found this place on our GPS and needed a place to stop for one night. The office is an old travel trailer outside, what was, the camp office. We found out that the owners couldn't get permits renewed for some unknown reason so the office and associated amenities was mothballed. It looks like this park was really nice at one time but not now. It is really run down with mostly permanent residents. Our site was right in front with 30 amp and no sewer. It was OK to plug in for the night but not much else. It looks like the 30 amp was protected by fuses, not breakers in the pedestal. We didn't look around much and if this park has restrooms and showers, they were probably disgusting. If you are looking for a safe place to hook for one night and plan to stay in your rig, this would be an OK park, otherwise for the price, there are better places to stay. We were told there was a dump station but we didn't need it. Our site was right in front of the office and the free WiFi was decent with one bar. - sprinter55
Jul 2010 - $32.00
Old, poorly maintained park. Roads are dirt as are the spaces. Many longterm residents and many motorcycles and 4 wheelers. Some grass but thin. Too much bird crap everywhere to enjoy being outside. Peafowl and guineas everywhere and they are really noisy especially when about 10 of them gather under you rig and start their screeching at 6 am. WiFi is non-existent. Manager said it was working in her mother-in-law's house but I stood under the antenna and had zero signal. This was true for the 2 days we were in the park. - PDDeen
Aug 2009 - $30.00
I have been camping at Wapiti Park Campgrounds for over 10 years and I absolutely love it! There are 2 parks for the children, swimming, fishing, and tubing in the river. There are 2 bath houses that are very clean. The showers have plenty of hot water. The office supplies many things including ice, firewood, propane, pizza, beer, pop and many more items! The staff is friendly and helpful. Thanks Wapiti for all the good years! - kasr123
Sep 2016 - $40.00
This Park is located approximately 4 or 5 miles off the Interstate in a very busy & growing area. With no fault of the staff, we camped there after much rain so the gravel streets and gravel sites were very muddy. Nonetheless, our site was level and didn't have any trees on it enabling us to access our satellite services. This would not be our preferred location for a future visit but would probably return if necessary. - kurtk
Sep 2016 - $54.00
This park is the worst of all KOA's we have stayed at. Visually this park is very unappealing. The grass was long and lots of uneven grounds. The mosquitos were overwhelming. This place might be ok for a one nighter, but that's about it. Very aged and needs a new face lift. - Bobk816
Sep 2016 - $44.00
Got lucky and booked on a last minute cancellation over memorial day long weekend a few hours before pulling in for the night. Friendly staff, convenient location to all the amenities of the city. Far enough from the interstate so noise is just local traffic. - MJB
Sep 2016 - $35.00
This was a very nice R.V park. You do drive though a trailer park so can be a bit confusing. And the sign for the office is too. It's not the first house trailer like arrow suggests, but down the road about a block. Owner seemed very nice ,they also have a military discount but need to ask for it. Over all very nice and clean. We would visit it again. - Msneuby
Jul 2016 - $35.00
This campground is conveniently located just far enough from 94 so you don't hear traffic. Monticello has everything you may need, great restaurants, Target, Home Depot... The staff is very nice. I drive a 45' motorhome and there is plenty of room to maneuver. Nice level site right on the Mississippi River. Nice walking trails just outside the park. - 2-75 Ranger Bob
Jul 2016 - $35.00
This park is a mixed bag. The RV area itself is pretty nice, with a number of sites under beautiful tall trees and others that back right up to the Mississippi River. The river was high when we visited, so high that the boat ramp was blocked off with sandbags to keep the water out. Not sure how normal that is, but I wouldn't want to stay in one of those waterfront sites with a small child -- the water is close and moving fast. Other than that, the main downside to this park is that it's situated in the middle of a pretty sketchy trailer park, so the first impression is not good. Also, the owner uses his house as his office, which felt odd and unprofessional. And he doesn't take credit cards. And finally, though the owner was friendly and helpful, I was a put off by all the signs on his home and truck with right-wing political messages. - jeneric
Sep 2016 - $22.00
This is a real gem of a park less than 30 minutes north of the Twin Cities. The sites are among the most generously spaced we've encountered, with lots of trees and foliage between. There are also some sites that are grouped together with less foliage between, suitable for a group with 2, 3 or 4 RVs. Most sites have water and electricity, and a large picnic table and fire pit were in all the sites. We felt that the price/night was very reasonable compared to campgrounds with similar amenities (power/water), and we saw many sites that would be big rig friendly (we were in a 32' TT).
Surrounding the park is a nice system of trails (both paved and mowed grass) for hiking and biking. The city of Coon Rapids is very close by (5 minute drive) if you need a store or other such amenities. Bunker Hills Regional Park (which houses the campground) also features houses riding stables, a disc golf course, a regular golf course, an archery range, and Bunker Beach water park. The park was quiet and well maintained and we enjoyed it so much that we have already booked to return here in a few weeks.
Of note, you do have to purchase either a day or annual park pass for Anoka County ($5/day or $25/year) in addition to your camp site fee, but we have found this to be common with state and county parks. - Canadian in Minnesota
Aug 2016 - $33.00
Very nice, quiet campground. Lots of shade. Very friendly attendants. Stayed one night. Would definitely stay again. Very concurrent to Minneapolis and St Paul. - SCFKansas
Jun 2016 - $25.00
This campground is a nice little oasis in the metro area. You are close to everything yet you feel like you are out of town. Sites are spacious and most have nice shading. We were too early in June for Bunker Beach to be open which was a bummer but the trails were nice. - Lynz24
Aug 2016 - $20.00
We stayed for 2 months while visiting children. Our rate paid was based on monthly rate. Park very well kept by friendly staff. Park gets filled on weekends but no loud parties. Has small swimming pool, also well kept. Only about 2 miles from town with several options for groceries. Within an hour drive of either Minneapolis or St Paul. Park also has canoes or kayaks for rent and inner tubes for floating on beautiful Rum River. - bingberg
May 2015 - $30.00
Big rig access is doable but it's tight. The road into the park is very rough with many low over hanging trees. There are only a few pull thru sites that can handle a rig over 40'. This park caters more to the weekenders from the city that come to camp in small rigs or tents and enjoy the river. The operators were very accommodating. There were some very low trees blocking our exit path that I brought to the maintenance crews attention. They were trimmed the next day. That also shows that this park does not receive a lot of big rig traffic. For us it was close enough to the city and our relatives for our visit. The few inconveniences are bearable and we would stay here again. - DoggieDaddy
Jun 2014 - $38.00
This campground is a short drive from the Twin Cities. It has very large, grassy sites and lots of open spaces. The staff are all very helpful and friendly. They have organized activities such as Halloween Trick-or-treating in June, and karaoke at night. There is a volleyball court, basketball court, horseshoe pits and a playground. The pool is clean and the water is warm. The restroom and showers are updated and clean. There is a modern port-a-potty with flush toilets and a sink centrally located in the campground. When the river isn't too high they offer tubing and kayaking. The only sites on the river are tent sites and they are down a hill and tucked away. You cannot see the river from the rest of the campground. We would definitely stay here again. - Juniper94
Sep 2016 - $25.00
This would be a decent $12 park.
The park has a nice playground and riverside - which is open to the public/city.
The sites are 90 degree turns with a pretty narrow asphalt road. The road has sunken near the restroom (septic system?) They had dumped a bunch of big river rock to compensate.
We had a 40 rig and arrived at night, and in the rain. There was a lot of standing water. I was worried that we were going to get stuck if we had to drive in the grass. I found one site that had an angle to it, but we had to drive over the sunken part of the road. My husband said "I'll just gun it!" and we made it.
Sites are electric only with posts with 20 and 30 amp stuck every-other site. Presumably shared?
There was a dropbox with self-registration. $25 a night. Price increases after 14 days. I never saw a ranger.
There was a water spigot in the center of campground. A pick up truck came and filled 2- 55 gallon drums.
NO DUMP STATION!
Bathroom was a running water toilet and sink only, no showers. Dusty, low quality. - mmette00
Sep 2010 - $20.00
A place to stop. Fairly private. Not very handy for bigger rigs, our 30 ft 5ver used every bit of the roads and needed grass to finish the turns. Some trees need pruning. - stetwood
Aug 2016 - $15.00
Competent and friendly office staff.
Poor roads-don't have a clue of how to maintain.
Many sites not level- there is no excuse in this day of slideouts. Some power posts and sewer connections poorly located.
Could use some updates which I understand they will be doing. - Nick2
Aug 2015 - $15.00
Rate reflects monthly stay at $450 a month. Electricity is metered. Laundry available onsite for $1. Also a laundrymat north on 65 with more washers. Nice quiet campground. We stay here every summer for 2 - 3 months. Office staff is pleasant and efficient. - Da Keeffes
Jul 2015 - $32.00
Excellent campground, except the water contains a great deal of iron. Good sites and well-maintained. - Dr-Bsharp
Sep 2012 - $30.00
Very clean and well maintained. A lot of rules that are enforced. No access to trails or other activities. No pool. Won't stay here again. - MarkandLaura
Aug 2011 - $35.00
This is a very peaceful location. The owners are great. We were driving through Minnesota and needed a place for the night. They were very accommodating and the site was great. It is a campground with many retired campers and they really do not have kids at the campground. It was so relaxing and clean that we may make a trip back just to relax sometime. We really appreciated the hospitality - Cudpal
Jul 2016 - $26.00
Shady, nice park, clean facilities, electric only at sites. Potable water and dump station available. - Legends Of America
Jul 2014 - $28.00
We stayed there over the 4th of July and made reservations on the day the system opened in March and got the last site available. Very busy!!!! But a well kept park. There is a large lake with boating, fishing and beach along the many miles of trails. Every working person we ran into was about 16 years old (except for the construction workers)and didn't seem to have any mature adults supervising them. The restrooms were modern but so busy it was nearly impossible to keep them clean. - rhianna
Sep 2016 - $30.00
This is a great park close to the cities. Sites are spacious, Restrooms are clean. - pineacresmn
Jul 2016 - $26.00
This campground is truly one of the best in the Minneapolis area. The bicycle paths are excellent. There is a lake for swimming and boating and other activities are also available. The campsites are large and week-spaced. Interior roads are a little on the narrow side and may make it difficult to back into your site if your neighbor parks at the edge of the road. There is easy access to shopping, etc., from this location. - Bobbi1948
Sep 2014 - $28.00
We camped here in the middle of the week and it was pretty empty, but we were leaving on Friday and noticed all the 50 amp spots were reserved for the weekend. This is a very pretty campground with lots of spaces. Unfortunately, we were so busy during our stay here that we didn't have time to explore. Our Big rig fit fine in the back in spaces. - Fishen4trout
