We always try to stay at COE parks when available, and were very happy that we were able to secure a site at Leech Lake at the last minute. Sites are dirt/sand and are spacious with trees between sites. Some of the roads are narrow, making it difficult to maneuver into the site for a large rig, but definitely doable. We had an electric only site, and fresh water is available for filling tanks. Easy access to the lake for fishing and a large fish cleaning house to clean your catch. Bath house is very clean and includes a free laundry with two washers and two dryers. We enjoyed our stay and list this as one of the nicest COE parks we have visited. Mosquitoes during our stay were a terrible annoyance, however campers who visit this park often told us that is unusual. We camped at Leech Lake Rec Area COE in a Fifth Wheel.

COE really does it all. We booked a full hook-up site, one of just 5 available. The sites are huge and well cared for. They have a lot of volunteers here. I think six couples plus a CAMPGROUND HOST couple. One books on line and then needs to CHECK IN at the office. The hours to do so are a bit odd (3 different times) throughout the day and evening. BTW there are even 2 washers and 2 dryers (look pretty new) and they are FREE! Really free. We camped at Leech Lake Rec Area COE in a Motorhome.

We stayed in the campground for a week and enjoyed it very much. It's easy to find right off CR 8 just south of Bena. Interior roads were fine to navigate with our motorhome and Jeep in tow. The place is a lot bigger than it appears when you first pull in, there are several different areas. Our Verizon cell phone and mifi hotspot worked great. We have family in the area, which is why we were visiting. There seemed to be a lot of locals camping there, lots of people with boats since there's a launch area and nice fish cleaning station onsite. Everyone was friendly. If you're not from the area, make sure you stock up on supplies before you arrive. We provisioned in Grand Rapids before we got to the COE.

Very quiet campground, lots of trees, shade and birds. We heard no road noise at all from our site, but we noticed there are some sites closer to the road. There's a pavilion and nice playground area for children, too. They have a "comfort station" along with several pit toilets throughout the campground so you don't have to walk very far. We had electric, but no water or sewer. We're self contained and we knew it ahead of time, so it wasn't a problem. We camped at Leech Lake Rec Area COE in a Motorhome.

This was my 2nd visit this year. I would rate this facility at a 10+: however, because of the goose droppings along the water front, kid's sand box and play ground it gets a 8. If you bring your boat, bring a floormat etc. to wipe your feet before you get into the boat. Or bring a fresh pair of shoes The whole water front is mined. If you do not use the water front, then this is one of the best in the Northland. I got to go hose out my boat again. We camped at Leech Lake Rec Area COE in a Truck Camper.

Overall Rating:

Very pleased with campground layout. Everything was quite a distance from the park. Wanted to do some fishing but there is about 1-1/2 mile water canal through wild rice to get to the open lake. Nothing in Federal Dam for shopping or eating out. There is a small convenient store and bait shop and marina. But the park is very popular with campers. We camped at Leech Lake Rec Area COE in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

This is the kind of park you wish for as a traveler - beautiful large sites in a park like setting. Paved interior roads are narrow but doable in a large motor home. Our full-hookup site had a large table and fire ring, and backed up to the forest. No WiFi or cable, but Verizon cell/data worked well and although there are lots of trees, we were able to find the satellites with a tripod mount. Extremely well maintained by a large cadre of friendly volunteers, quiet at night, and even free firewood from downed trees. An enjoyable stay and very reasonable using the Golden Access pass. Only a few full hookup sites, so reservations are a must. We camped at Leech Lake Rec Area COE in a Motorhome.

Great COE park. As previously stated you are not on the lake. Sights have plenty of room. Interior roads are paved. Sites are gravel. Our Verizon cell phone service was spotty though. Roads feel tight but we got through with our 40' motorhome with no issues. We camped at Leech Lake Rec Area COE in a Motorhome.

We spent 2 nights here. Used as a lay-over for a trip further west.

Campground was very nice. Many trees, but open underneath. Large sites and space between. Paved roads with gravel pads. Very quiet. Most people here to boat/fish so are gone during day.

Restrooms were clean, but did show some signs of use - marked up stalls, etc. There is one shower building and additional vault toilets throughout campground.

We were disappointed that you are not on Leech Lake. You cannot even see it from the campground. You are located on a channel/river and the open lake is some distance away (> 1 mile). No swimming at campground.

There during July 4th week, and the vendor for firewood did not have any available for purchase. Had to order, but they delivered to site. But it was wet and green wood. We camped at Leech Lake Rec Area COE in a Fifth Wheel.

I concur with the previous reviewer but I wanted to add a couple of things. The vast majority of sites are back-in. I'd say most are pretty easy access but choose your site carefully if you have a bigger rig. This is more a park for camping than RVing and there is a difference, e.g. the lack of water at many sites. Good ATT & Verizon coverage. We camped at Leech Lake Rec Area COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Outstanding COE campground. Great staff and volunteers. Only 5 full hookups. Rest of the sites are electric only. Dump and water fill available. Water spigot, if nearby, is shared with several other sites - need at least 100 feet of hose. Some sites do not have a spigot nearby at all. Beautiful grounds. Lots of tree cover, so satellite reception could be challenging. Fire rings. Roads are paved, sites are pea gravel. Rate reflects 50% discount for senior pass. Sites range in price from $24 to $40 per night ($12/$20 with pass). Nice boat launch and fish cleaning station. There is a canal where you can moor your boat to avoid daily in/out. No swimming beach. Tidy play ground and picnic area. We camped at Leech Lake Rec Area COE in a Motorhome.

This is an excellent COE park. Most sights are very spacious and there is plenty of room to spread out and relax. The park is very clean. Trash is removed every day and the fire rings are kept clean. For boaters using Leech Lake, there is also a private boat ramp and dock for use by campers in the park. The is also a mooring area where boats can be tied up during the day and overnight if you choose. Our rate reflects our Senior Pass usage. We camped at Leech Lake Rec Area COE in a Fifth Wheel.

We couldn't believe how nice this campground is. The sites are clean and have plenty of room. We stayed in site 6, which is a 3 unit site and a pull through. We camped here with another couple with a trailer. We had plenty of room to put up a screen tent between our campers. Fire wood is not supplied at this campground and is expensive from the launch service (almost $6.00 a bundle). There is a laundry between the shower houses. There are 2 play grounds for the kids. We camped at Leech Lake Rec Area COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Another fabulous Corp of Engineers park. This particular park is way up at the top of the list as it actually offers full hook ups. Everything you love about Corp parks is present here - paved roads; gravel, spacious, level sites; abundance of trees; close proximity to lake; manicured, immaculately maintained; friendly check-in staff; . We would definitely return here. A gem of a park! We camped at Leech Lake Rec Area COE in a Motorhome.

This is another superb COE campground. We stayed in a full hookup site and the rate reflects the federal senior discount. The sites are dirt/gravel but level and easy to maneuver into; the roads within the campground are paved. The sites are large and provide lots of privacy. There were too many trees for us to get satellite TV reception but the Verizon signal was adequate for phone and internet (even better with an antenna and amplifier). There are playgrounds for children and a boat ramp, but no beach. We would definitely come here again. We camped at Leech Lake Rec Area COE in a Motorhome.
