Sept 10-14 Grand Marais Recreational Area, Grand Marais, MN site 42, $45 full hookups, 177 sites dump station, bathhouses with showers, ball field, rec buildings We were at a RV rally at this campground. Check in was quick. The sites are close together and there are many seasonal sites. We really enjoyed our stay here and looking out to the harbor and lighthouse. The town is a short walk to stores, coast guard house, restaurants, cobblestones beaches and the public access boat launch. There is a paved Gitchi Gami State Bike Trail on the north side of the campground. There is a 9 hole golf course four miles away and with the park pass you pay a special price ( $10) and then can go around as much as you want. There is also a special for the YMCA pool. This is a cute town and the park is very busy with different events offered throughout the camping season. There was a music festival going on the first night we were there and we could hear the music. Great stop! We camped at Grand Marais RV Park & Campground in a Motorhome.

We very much enjoyed our stay here. This is a great campground and very busy. If you wish to stay here for any kind of time, you need to make reservations early. Our site was great. Even though "the neighbors" were right next door, there were enough trees around us to give the site a secluded feeling. All utilities worked well. Water pressure was good, sewer port clean and accessible. The electric service voltage was a little high - 132 v - so I elected to use our transformer. Contrary to other reviews, my Verizon signal was strong with good 4G LTE coverage. That is a good thing, because there is no WiFi in the campground other than at the office, a fact which they make abundantly clear. I enjoy the great outdoors as much as the next man, however, these days people have come to expect internet access. They should consider installing a proper network. The ambiance of the town of Grand Marais is marvelous and the views of the lake from the campground are wonderful. There was a great music festival at the park while we were there. We plan to come back soon. We camped at Grand Marais RV Park & Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Do have lunch or dinner at the Dockside Fish Market (easy walk from the campground). The fried Walleye basket is to die for. Also a good breakfast can be had at the Blue Water Cafe.

Although the sites were a little short, I would go back to this park anytime. Gorgeous beach (but it's Lake Superior brrrr) The park met people from all over Canada and US. The park was very clean and the showers were welcoming even though you pay 50 cents to use them. Dump site near the office not that great for campers nearby. Can get a little stinky. We had a great time and stayed longer than planned. We camped at Grand Marais RV Park & Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

There is so much to do near Grand Marais, double the length of your planned stay. Gunflint Trail for hiking and kayaking, multiple locations. We saw two moose on Ball Club Lake while kayaking. Day trips to nearby state parks is a must, Cagney and Tettegouche are a must. Walk around the town, plenty to see.

We stayed here for 4 nights this month. The campground is right on Lake Superior at the edge of downtown Grand Marais. As others said, it's a short walk to restaurants and shops as well as the beach. The sites are close together in this large campground, but we had a tree on each side of us for some semblance of privacy. The staff were very friendly, and there is lots of local information in the office. Free WiFi is strong at the office or sitting right outside but not available in the rest of the park. Bathrooms and showers are very clean. You might have to wait for a shower at busy times. One downside of our visit was the straw that was spread on our site, most likely after some utility work or to cover mud. It tracked into our RV, and I'm still picking it by hand from the door mat. We will definitely stay here again! We camped at Grand Marais RV Park & Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Don't miss the World's Best Donuts or the fudge shop across the street from it. A drive up the Gunflint trail toward or to the Boundary Waters Canoe Wilderness is a great way to spend a day.

This is a large, busy campground (not a resort) with a wonderful location right on Lake Superior and the harbor and right next to downtown. The sites range in size from tent to big-rig and are fairly close together. We were lucky and got a pull-through with FHU and 50 amp. Wifi is available only by the office but they tell you that up front. Office staff is friendly and helpful. Our closeby neighbors were all also friendly and we had fun visiting. Downtown is close enough to walk to and has several interesting tourist shops and restaurants. We camped at Grand Marais RV Park & Campground in a Motorhome.

We stayed here for 4 days and loved it. Sites are tight and very close together. The cobblestone beach was beautiful. We have Verizon and the service was great. All the staff were very friendly. We had FHU. The walk into town is about 2 blocks. Lots of shops and restaurants in town. We will be back next year, hopefully for much longer this time. Tips for other Campers:

While we were in Grand Marais, MN we went up Gunflint Road looking for Moose...never saw any, but had great pie at one of the lodges. We went to Thunder Bay, Ontario, CA and visited Ft William, which was so educational and the people giving us the history of the fort were quite knowledgeable. I would recommend this to families also.

Love the ideal location with easy access to the town, the lake and all amenities. However, the heavy cloud of smoke hovering over the entire campground day and night makes any return visit unthinkable. With every campsite having a fire pit, and backed up by the mountain behind, it makes breathing anything close to fresh air impossible. The stench plugs up your nose to the point of needing to get in your car and driving down the highway to escape. . I think the solution would be two or three sites for communal fires, as is done in many cases at other campgrounds we have visited. Unfortunately this ruins a beautiful, and what could be an ideal, getaway. We camped at Grand Marais RV Park & Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tons of things to do in easy walking distance. However, the constant cloud of smoke covering the area makes it almost necessary that you spend as much time as possible away from the campground.

This municipally owned/run campground is located both on the shores of Lake Superior and the Grand Marais harbor. There is a pebble beach on the lake and a sand beach on the harbor. The location is beautiful. The campground is huge, and, at the time we were there, crowded. However, we pulled in without a reservation, and they had a spot for us. It is an easy walk to town. There are a bunch of fun restaurants in town surrounding the harbor. We stayed here for a quick overnight stay on our way to Grand Portage MN and the ferry to Isle Royale National Park (Happy 100th Birthday NPS!). We will definitely stay here again, next time for longer so we can enjoy the campground and the town. We camped at Grand Marais RV Park & Campground in a Motorhome.

Our site was across from the pavillion that borders the bay. I reserved the full hookup pull thru site in March. The views are awesome and it is an easy walk into town which has a multitudes of eateries. We were told when we checked in that there is no WIFI and tv is only what you can pull in with your antenna or sat. dish. The pull thru sites overlooking the water are very short so we had to disconnect our small car & park it crosswise in front of the mh. This site is a corner site so lots of room to the road side. We noticed a fewpeople allowed their dogs to run off leash and into the water which presents a problem if you have a dog that loves people but not other dogs. This is a public area so people come in with their boats and launch from 1 of the 2 boat launches. Most of the park is occupied by seasonal people who seem to have a permanent reserved site from year to year. Some sites are such that it looks like the rigs are winterized and left over the winter. There are many geese and for those who do not know about Canadian Geese, they eat & leave good size droppings behind. We had to watch our step around out site due to this. We camped at Grand Marais RV Park & Campground in a Motorhome.

This campground is run by the city of Grand Marais. Because it was late in the season we had no reservation but also had many choices of spots. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The sites were close but we chose one on the end and only had someone on one side. It is located close to town so you can walk to downtown. The town is touristy so there are lots of restaurants and some shops. We camped at Grand Marais RV Park & Campground in a Motorhome.

There is a 'famous' donut shop in town where I bet there is a long line in the summer. We did not think the donuts were that great but it is within walking distance. There is a walkway along the lake and a beach in the park.

This is a very busy 300 site park. The sites are very close together. We stayed for 5 nights. The park was full and they put us in a handicap site which was right next to the restrooms, and a very unlevel site for being a handicap site. They have the Xlerator hand dryers in the restrooms and we heard them at all hours, day and night. Our site was really too short for us as our bikes were in the evergreens and our front end was right at the road. We parked our truck on the grass between sites. It is a great location and there is a city ballpark right in the park, so we watched a couple of the games they had going on. This is a very family friendly place, but with that being said, there were kids everywhere on bikes and running around and you really had to be careful when you were driving as they'd dart out from between vehicles. The park is right on the harbor and the Lake Superior shore, so great location. Just way too crowded. We camped at Grand Marais RV Park & Campground in a Fifth Wheel.
