1 Park near Grand Portage, Minnesota
Aug 2016 - $24.00
This is an Tribal, owned and operated park adjacent to a casino, currently in the final remodeling stages of construction.
Our rate is based on a 1 week stay. The sites are all located on a gentle hillside overlooking Lake Superior. Sites are all large and spaced well apart. All utilities worked fine. No cable, they want you in the casino, not watching TV!
Grand Portage is simply the RV Park, a casino and a "Trading Post" which is excellent, having virtually anything you may need while traveling, from hardware to a small market with fresh foods to diesel and gas. (Best price around for sure) there is also a Post Office and Credit Union located in this store.
There is only 1 washer and 1 dryer available in the laundromat. About 1/2 of the park was filled with seasonal workers. (All very friendly) this is 6 miles from Canada, and 42 miles to Thunder Bay, Ontario, and 34 miles to Grand Marais, the next nearest grocery store. Boat trips to Isle Royale 2 miles away.
Not a lot to do here. If you like quiet times, it's here.Great views of the lake.
One downside... We were unable to sit outside during the evening hours because of all the mosquitos and biting horseflies. Mornings and coffee outside are great though! - AlaskaJack

This campground is part of a tribal run casino/marina/campground complex. The casino is under renovation and about 1/4 of the campsites were taken up with piles of building materials. Those should be freed up when the construction is completed. The campground is small and a little weedy. However, we had an amazing view of Lake Superior from our window. Who sees weeds when you can look at that! The staff was super helpful. We called to make a reservation late in the game and they were full. However, they keep a few sites for walk-ins. So we got there early and got one of those sites. All good. There are a convenience store, car wash, gas station and post office as part of the complex. Wifi was terrible. We were told that we could use wifi in the casino hotel lobby, which ended up being 2 chairs and a broken desk next to a doorway. The campground staff were welcoming and helpful, the casino staff were rude and unhelpful. We turned off our Verizon phones, there was no reception. The campground is biking distance to the Grand Marais National Monument and the ferry (3 miles away) that takes you to Isle Royale National Park (Happy 100th Birthday NPS!). We would definitely stay here again. - ShoreXplorers

We had full hookups. There was nice spacing on the sites and the utilities worked find for us except the wifi. It faded in and out constantly and was of little value. Our site had a nice view of the lake. - Summer Minnesotan
