Because we were there so late in the season there was no charge. Beautiful location right on the headwaters of the Mississippi River. Some traffic noise from U.S. 2, but the location made the park convenient and easy to find. Not really big rig friendly - we were lucky to find a spot we could just fit into. We camped at Pokegama Dam Campground COE in a Travel Trailer.

Great place to stay for a few days. Quiet (except for the occasional train and a little highway noise). A couple of fishing docks and a boat launch. All back-in sites. A couple of close branches wouldn't allow awnings, but had plenty of shade. On line register worked easy. Firewood not available on site. Would stay again. We camped at Pokegama Dam Campground COE in a Motorhome.

Plenty of big rig spots. Only 19 spaces. Used the reservation system on line and it was very good! 50 amp electric. No water sewer except at dump station. Lovely setting. We were surprised to see this camp site full in mid-September. And sure enough at 11:30 pm, here comes the train, and the train whistle. We would return here, but need to make reservation. Would have been $13 to camp if we could have found our senior pass. Was going to buy another, but they were out of them. We camped at Pokegama Dam Campground COE in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Went to see Judy Garland birthplace. Very nice. Great children's hands on museum adjoining. Take your younger kids there. Would have gone to Forest History center, but only open on Saturdays now.

Very nice overnight stay, and a great value for the $ $ $. Back in site overlooking the Mississippi River from our back window of the travel trailer. Restroom/showers were immaculate. Use caution negotiating getting in and out on highway 2, however, major construction going on at the park entrance. No water or sewer hookups, but there are plenty of water spigots and a dump station available. We camped at Pokegama Dam Campground COE in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

This is a beautiful Corp of Engineers (COE) campground right on the Mississippi River just below the Pokegama Dam one mile north of Grand Rapids, MN. All sites are backin with water/50amp electric (there is a dump station at the end of the road). Lovely grass between gravel sites with large trees. The ranger at the office was very helpful and knowledgeable about the operation of the dam.

The only drawback of the park is the railroad is only 1o feet from the park with the horn blaring. This was a very rude awakening the first night.

The rate quoted was with the Nat'l Park Senior Pass.

Except for the train this was our favorite park during our 4 month cross country trek. We camped at Pokegama Dam Campground COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Campground was clean, well maintained. It was very loud with Highway 2 right next to it and a train track right next to it. Thankfully there was only one night that a train came by. When I camp I prefer a quieter place, more in the wilderness and more space between the sites. This is more of an RV park where people stay in their RV's and watch TV. I probably wouldn't camp here again. We camped at Pokegama Dam Campground COE in a Tent Trailer.

Overall Rating:

This is a nice little campground with less than 20 sites. The sites are fairly level and we were able to park our 40' into lot #3 without any problems. These are electric only sites but they have a dump station on site. The sites have lots of shade which makes satellite antennas almost useless. There is no Wi-Fi and we were not able to pickup any over the air TV channels. The campground is very close to the highway and railroad and can get noisy at times. Even with these issues we liked this park. It is on the Mississippi River and just feet from the small dam. Most campers fished the river. We would stay here again. We camped at Pokegama Dam Campground COE in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Super nice Corps of Engineer campground just north of Grand Rapids which is convenient to the local area and its many activities. Shower and bathroom facilities are one of the best we have seen even though they are small. Main interior road is paved and sites are gravel - access to all sites is not a problem for all size RV's. Campground is well maintained and very clean. Nice feature of park is the walking/hiking trail just over the dam and railroad tracks. The only small negative item is the closeness to highway 2 and the train that blows its horn when going by. We would stay here again as its positives out weigh its negatives - one gets used to the local noise as we did. We camped at Pokegama Dam Campground COE in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

This is a nice COE park located right along the Mississippi River. There is alot to do in the area and we easily 'killed' a week here. The only drawback is that this park is very noisy: the trains weren't really a problem but Highway 2 runs right behind the campground. Road noise all day and all night. They do take reservations for about half the sites: there is no additional fee to make a reservation. The park did fill up every night we were here by about 5pm. We camped at Pokegama Dam Campground COE in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Pretty Corp of Engineer campground right on the headwaters of the Mississippi River. Huge sites with pretty views of river. In October the water is turned off. The dump station is still open, but no water is available. One negative: train tracks are very close; however, we were awakened during the night only once. We would stay here again. We camped at Pokegama Dam Campground COE in a Fifth Wheel.
