The people are nice and helpful. The bathrooms and showers are old and run down but clean. That's not the problem. The problem is the campsites are so cramped and packed in together you better make good friends with people who are parked less than 5 feet away. I was given one campsite that literally divided into two by a large tree. I was moved to another site that was so small it was terrible. Very narrow gravel pad, not level (sloped front to back) with a 5 foot (if you're lucky) strip of grass outside your door where 1/2 of it is mud and the other half grass. Typical KOA...and never worth the money unless you like camping on top of strangers. We camped at Minneapolis Southwest KOA in a Travel Trailer.

The staff was very helpful in helping us to navigate to our site after a tree had fallen the night before and blocked one of the interior roads. However, the site was very muddy and the mosquitoes swarmed around us. There was no cable and the shade trees made satellite reception impossible. The wifi service was okay. The campground was fairly close to shopping and services. We camped at Minneapolis Southwest KOA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Plan your arrival and departure to avoid the rush-hour traffic from nearby Minneapolis. Don't be afraid to use state and county secondary roads. They are good roads.

Office staff very friendly, site was weird. Just enough room for 23 ft TT and truck. They planted a darn tree right where anyone's awning would come out. Ask to move to next site over they said it's booked. Well NO ONE is there for our stay. Park needs a LOT of work. Some real long term crap staying here. Roads and sites need some stone brought in. It rains and a mud hole we have. Park is in back of industrial area, machine shop can be noisy. Like at 7 AM. Both mornings I wanted to go over there and tell them QUIET. Didn't use the bath or showers or pool. They do have a area with fire pit on the site which helps keep fire ring from being moved. That's nice. Some people like to move them and that makes a mess for the next person. They need to get rid of seasonals or tell them to clean it up. We camped at Minneapolis Southwest KOA in a Travel Trailer.

This is an older park with lovely trees, big sites, and lots of grass. The interior roads are narrow enough that you have to keep your concentration up, but they are doable.

We have been here 4 times and never been disappointed. Yes, it is a bit expensive, but it is close to the Renaisance Faire, our reason for visiting. They also have a huge indoor pool that is even heated, a big plus for the family we were camping with. Nice playground too. The Internet was actually usable most of the time! We camped at Minneapolis Southwest KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Very pleasant staff, both in office and throughout the grounds. Close to Minneapolis, and really has as many sites packed into the acreage as possible. The sites are a bit close, but the location served our needs for the short stay. Overall a pleasant experience. We camped at Minneapolis Southwest KOA in a Motorhome.

Very disappointed. When we got there we paid but then looked at the receipt they charged us for the camper to be there and then again for us to be in our camper; when we talked to them about it they never gave us a real answer, just went in circles. When we made the reservation we said there would be a tent as well, we barely had room for the tent. The pools hours were from 9 to 9 but on Sunday night they left the pool unlocked and people were in there until 11:30 yelling and screaming, that was after they came in and turned their music on as loud as they could. We were supposed to have a sewer connection but when we went to actually use it, it was plugged up and unable for us. We had to hook up and go to another site to dump. When everyone had left, since was Sunday the campground was fairly empty, someone came in during the later evening- they put them right next to our sight. When we helped some try to hook up their camper, we got a good sized shock from their power box not being grounded properly. We camped at Minneapolis Southwest KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Nice office staff, stay only if you can get one of the deluxe sites, they are very nice. Our site was very small and could not believe they called it a pull thru. Sites are packed together on any piece of ground there. Okay for a night or two if you want to visit the Mall Of America. No cable and it`s hit or miss on getting TV . Amazingly, the bugs were not bad at all...because this is a heavily wooded campground. Satellite reception? Not likely. The Internet was good. Cellphone reception is also, very good. This campground is under new ownership, and needs allot of help. I would think that Minneapolis could support a great KOA. On the bad side: the dust was bad, the workers were not very friendly, the roads were in some cases overly narrow, and there are no planned activities. I was disappointed. We will not likely return. Under new ownership. The roads are too narrow for big rigs to get through and are 2-way. Right outside the front gate are 2 heavily used trucking companies which leaves everything outside your rigs covered in dust. Staff is unfriendly, sites are un-level and internet turns off every night around 8:15. Waiting for a spot to open at the nearby casino so we can leave. This is a safe place to stay for a couple nights. It's clearly from the 70's when everyone tent camped or had a small pop-up. Roads are CRAZY narrow and even experienced campers struggled. Sites are not narrow and everything looked original from the day it was built. We stayed because of the heated indoor pool, which was barely kept over freezing. Sites are uneven and staff simply pointed where to go, with little regard for customer service. We camped at Minneapolis Southwest KOA in a Travel Trailer.

The staff was friendly and helpful but did not show us to our campsite. The campsite was not level. Our picnic table was located at another site. The park roads were two-way which made it difficult to maneuver. We camped at Minneapolis Southwest KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

The first thing I noticed about this campground was that they had recently dumped gravel in areas on the roads that I presume were in pretty bad shape. When I pulled into the check-in area my truck and trailer felt like they were going to sink. I don’t think anything was graded or tamped, just dumped. There were several areas like that in the park. Sites are fairly level, but some leveling was necessary on most sites. Grassy sites with gravel drives. I’m not sure about the pool. It didn’t appear that the water was clean…but I’m not sure if it was the pool liner or the water itself. We did not use the pool. The laundry room was clean. The person at the desk when I checked in seemed to be distracted by some “children issues” and therefore came off as being a bit curt with me. Kind of hurried me off. The printed map is a bit confusing. There are arrows showing roads as one way, but if you follow the map, you can’t get out! Most guests just used all the roads as two-way. The brochure does not reflect actuality with information given. There is no kid’s activity calendar, but they do have a playground. Very disappointed in this KOA. The one thing my wife and I were very happy with was the Wi-Fi, however we would not return. We camped at Minneapolis Southwest KOA in a Travel Trailer.

This campground did not meet our expectations of a KOA, especially at the $39.49 KOA Value Kard rate. NO CABLE. Brochure indicated that we should take our trash to the dumpster. First KOA I have ever seen require such. Staff was not all that friendly. Site was not level at all. If we ever visit Minneapolis again we will seek another campground at which to stay. Restrooms and showers were clean, but low on hot water for showers early in the morning. RV sites are somewhat small compared to tent sites: tend to feel put on top of each other. Overall, the campground and pool were clean. Advertised WiFi but only had sporadic access 2 out of 5 days. For the price and amenities, will probably not stay here again. This park is off a busy highway with train tracks across from it and a chopper shop next door. If you are looking for a quiet getaway this is not for you! Otherwise it has a lot to offer including a very large indoor pool. The sites are a bit tight and the campground could use a bit of updating. The restrooms and showers were very clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful. We camped at Minneapolis Southwest KOA in a Travel Trailer.
