We came in for a week without reservation and found a very nice wooded site. Driving around the campground saw many sites that in my opinion were very large. (Michigan take note!) Minnesota is going to an all site reservation system beginning 1/1/2015 eliminating walk in sites making weekend camping plans without reservation almost impossible at popular parks. Nice bike trails and paths. The Riverway part of campground very close to river with nice path next to it. Nice staff. Would definitely return. Having stayed at this campground several years back, we had mixed feelings this time. We stayed in the Savanna campground over Memorial Weekend, where the sites have nicer spacing and foliage in between. The sites seem to be very short and are electric only. We heard several complaints about not being able to let slides out and many campfires were right on the road. We pulled our vehicle horizontal to give the people across from us some privacy, as it was their family gathering spot. They have added more electric sites and really nice cabins since we last visited. The bathrooms are from the 70's, but had been remodeled and not thought out well. There were four small stalls and two showers for each of the men’s and ladies facilities (for 70+ sites, times by 4 people per site). Two unisex bathroom/shower combos, but one shower was broken. All of the bathrooms were wet and dirty all the time, even if it wasn't raining. I had to roll up my pants, so they wouldn't get wet. Also, dump station only has one hole for both campgrounds. We left early, but people were already waiting in line. The good - close to the Twin Cities, the hiking was nice, the picnic area is huge and swimming was busy. There is an amphitheater and nice shelter just steps away. The campground offered an antique train ride into several Wisconsin towns, biking, canoeing and kayaking. This is a very nice park with plenty to do. It stays full all summer. It would be your fault if you were bored. WiFi too. We like other state parks better. We are not sure when we will go back. Date of Stay: October, 2011 - $25.00
Seriously the most fun we had ever had at a campground. We went on the Halloween weekend, and the kids had a blast trick-or-treating, looking at all the decorated sites, hiking and geocashing. We stayed in the Savannah campground and liked it very much. Quiet campground even with all the children here for the weekend. Need to drive between the two campgrounds, way too far to walk. Staff hosting the events were very friendly and helpful. My biggest issue was that the shower building was not heated. Very cold taking a shower at the end of October. This is a nice State Park. The Park is off of 95 between Taylors Falls and Stillwater and is located on the St. Croix River. The park is very big with a swimming beach, boat launch, canoe rental, picnic area and many other things. The sites in the Savanna Campground part of the park seemed bigger then the ones in the Riverway Campground part. Both Campgrounds were shaded with Riveryway being much more shaded. Overall a very nice park along a scenic river. We will be back. We camped at William O'Brien State Park in a Travel Trailer.Undo
