Great state park. We stayed here over the July 4th weekend, and even though it was very busy, it didn't seem that way. Very quiet during the quiet time. The main campground has paved roads and two different sides, one electric and on non-electric. The sites had gravel pads and all appeared fairly level, ours was almost perfect. Lots of space between each site, but no foliage between. There are lots of nice trees shading most sites. There is a rustic campground more for smaller trailers and tents a bit further down the campground road. The bathrooms are newer and have private shower rooms. Wood was $6.00 for a good sized bundle of hardwood, a good value. Very nice hiking trails. The sand beach chlorine pool is great, what a unique way to design a pool! The "Old Dam Trail" exits the park and ends up at the Schell Brewery. We camped at Flandrau State Park in a Travel Trailer.
Tips for other Campers:
Tour the Schell Brewery, on busy weekends get there early in the morning to reserve a time and then return. Climb up the Hermann Memorial.
Flandrau is a nice campground right in town, but quiet and wooded enough that you would never know. There are several nice trails, some that parallel the river, some that climb hills for great views. The sand-bottom chlorinated swimming pool and playground are favorites of our kids. My only cons on this campground is it's relatively small and only about half of the sites have electric, so they fill up quickly, sometimes months in advance. Also, the swimming pool is a favorite of locals, too, and gets pretty crowded at times. We camped at Flandrau State Park in a Travel Trailer.
Well maintained by state and good selection between electric, non-electric and primitive sites. A bit crowded on weekends, however more open on weekdays. Sites are a bit close together, however that is offset by how well maintained the park is. Restrooms and showers very nice. Campground is in town, so close to activities. Very Nice Park. Large sites and well marked. Quiet hours were just that, quiet. This was our first but, not last trip to this park. We had a great time. We camped at Flandrau State Park in a Travel Trailer.
