Excellent Park Rangers were very helpful. This is a remote campground with no amenities but that should not keep you from visiting. The beaches along Zippel Bay are beautiful and shallow enough for our kids to enjoy swimming. It is one of the best campgrounds we have stayed at with extremely large, private, LEVEL and accommodating sites. The middle of July there were only three sites occupied in Ridge Loop. The vault toilets leave a lot to be desired but if you are self-contained this will be no issue at all. The showers while simple, we're very clean and easy to use. Lots of great wild berry picking (blueberries, strawberries, raspberries)!! Great bird watching! The trees were alive with birds! Word is Angler Loop may be getting electricity which will make this park even more appealing. There should be no issue for large rigs to navigate this park. Lady Slipper Loop may be tight but plenty of deep & level sites. To play it safe Ridge Loop was very accommodating. We are in a 33ft Class A Motorhome. AT&T had no service but Verizon with our booster had no issues. We camped at Zippel Bay State Park in a Motorhome.

We had a great experience staying here! Spacious spots that have plenty of trees surrounding the sites. The roads appeared to be recently widened and improved making them easily accessible to all rigs. The beach is gorgeous and goes on forever! There is a marina too. There were few other families at the park so we enjoyed it mostly to ourselves! We camped at Zippel Bay State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Great State Park. Nice wooded sites, we stayed in site 54 which was long enough for the longest RV. No flush toilets but they do have a shower building which was spotless. The pit toilets are spotless too. Two swimming beaches and a small harbor and boat launch you can keep your boat in during your stay. The park is under utilized but a great family camping experience. All the roads in the campground except by the entrance are gravel but there was no problem riding mountain bikes and bmx style bikes on them to get where we wanted to go. The staff was excellent, very friendly and informative and they seemed to take great pride in their jobs and their park. One of the best experiences we have had in a Minnesota State Park. We camped at Zippel Bay State Park in a Tent Trailer.

Roads interior to the park are gravel and are generally in poor condition. A large MH or 5th wheel would have problems navigating them. Of all the sites available, only two would work for a 30' motorhome and those are tight. This park is beautiful - sites are heavily wooded with Birch and pine. The beach, which opens on to the Lake of the Woods, is to die for! It has a marvelous natural sandy beach and wonderful wading in the lake - best I've seen. This park is very under utilized. Perhaps because it has no electricity or flush toilets, perhaps because it is so isolated, or perhaps because the roads are so bad, but on a Friday-Saturday stay, we were the ONLY ones in the entire Birch Campground. There is no cell phone or Blackberry coverage here at all. The Ranger advised us not to drive our MH into the Lady Slipper Campground (too tight). We camped at Zippel Bay State Park in a Motorhome.
