We have stayed at this campground twice - four years apart. The first time in a pickup camper. This time in a 40' RV. The park staff is super nice. The grounds are very well kept. The campgrounds are great. I had 2 bars of Verizon 4G on my cell. The shower in the Horse campground was super clean, well laid out and plenty of hot water. This stay was an emergency stop due to generator issues. We will definitely come back to this campground to stay longer. We camped at Trace State Park in a Motorhome.

First all the +'s: The site we had was level, with nice shade, > 170' long with WES 20,30,50 a picnic table and some rocks for a fire ring, no patio but a large grassy/sandy area right on the Lake***. The bathrooms and showers were clean with good pressure and plenty of hot water in the showers. The folks who checked me in noticed I had a 30 amp site without sewer and asked if I wanted one with full hook ups and gave me the nicest site in the park. The park was quiet peaceful and not very full. Verizon phone and Mifi worked great. The roads were easy to get around on except as noted below. Ok the other shoe is going to drop. The roads on the approach to the park and in the park are in some rough shape but low speeds will get you through the pot holes just fine. Now we come to the "Lake". They had about 300-300 yards of the go into to a slump mode on the water side of the dam. The net result is that there's no water in the lake around any of the camp sites. I was told they they "were fix'n it" but I saw no evidence of it. So if you're going to come here and think there's a lake look at the latest google earth pictures and call for an update. With the shape the roads are in I would be real surprised if they get any money to fix it within the next 5-10 yrs. On the bright side this means that there will probably be a lot of availability until it gets fixed and filled again. We'd stay here again if we're in the area. We camped at Trace State Park in a Motorhome.

Our impression of this park doesn't seem to match everyone else's, but perhaps it's because it was the 10th state park in a row we visited, and the others were much nicer in our opinion. The road to the campground, and some of the roads inside the campground, are in horrible condition, with broken pavement, huge potholes, and poorly patched areas. The person who checked us in at the entrance was surprisingly unhelpful, didn't give us any information about the park or even instructions on how to get to the campground and our site. We stayed in the new Warrior campground which had large, level concrete sites and full hookups, which was great for the price. Unfortunately both AT&T and Verizon were extremely slow, with AT&T usually not working at all. During the week it was like a ghost town... there were a bunch of RVs in the campground, but we never saw any people, and on the weekend, locals camp here and bring their ATVs to ride around all the trails. It's just a different state park campground experience than we're used to. We walked the trails with our dog during the week until some rain turned them all to mud, and we were advised not to use the trails on the weekend due to the ATVs. It's a good 15-20 minute drive to get to stores or restaurants. Perhaps under different conditions we'd have enjoyed the park more, but next time in the area we'll try a different location. We camped at Trace State Park in a Motorhome.

We stayed at this campground while drive the Natchez Trace. The last couple of miles to the park and the roads within the park had some prize size potholes. However, it only means you have to go slowly. The other issue of note is that most of the lake is dry. Sites that would have been beautiful water-front sites now look out on dry brown brush. However, even with that, it is a pleasant campground. There are actually three different campgrounds with full hookups. We stayed in the Deer Run area. The nearby Eagle Ridge area seemed to be a little more modern with some 50 amp sites. That is also the area with a camp host. Although we had no problems, we might have felt a little more secure leaving our RV for the day with the camp host nearby. Other than our entrance into the park and seeing the grounds maintenance, we did not see any official presence. The gate is not locked at night, but it felt perfectly fine. We were able to get DirecTV satellite with our portable dish, but it would be pretty difficult at some sites as it has significant tree cover. Verizon cell phone and data were weak but usable most of the time - only one dropped call. We did not see a lot of camp staff, but those we did encounter were pleasant. We would stay here again for a couple of nights if visiting the area, but would not make it a destination campground. We camped at Trace State Park in a Motorhome.

Take it slow on the road into the campground. Very quiet CG on the water. We were on site 12 in a 40' 5th wheel. Trees on both sides, but we made it in. The road into the campground is horrible with MANY POTHOLES; that aside. Plenty of space for our 2 dogs (weims) to exercise and very nice neighbors. We stayed a week and will come back again. We camped at Trace State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We were looking for a campground in the area to break up a long drive. We're self contained and don't use the facilities. We stayed here on a weeknight in October.

This is a small, pleasant campground. There are 4 different areas, we stayed in Deer Run. There were several sites on Trace Lake with nice views. There is space between the sites and most have shade. Verizon and ATT coverage were ok. We camped at Trace State Park in a Motorhome.

Great well spaced sites. Looks like every site had a view of the lake. We stayed at site 26 and had two trailheads at our door. We stayed one night on our way through to Florida. There didn't seem to be a gate they closed at night. Only complaints are minor for a one night stay. No Wi-Fi and kids playground was not within walking distance of the campsites. We would stay here again. We camped at Trace State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This is a really nice State park. The overall park is quite large but camping and RV areas are separated into several small areas. Nearly every site is on the lake or has a lake view. There is no WiFi and satellite probably will not work well because of all the trees. There are miles of walking and hiking trails. Great water pressure and 30/50 amp elec. hook-ups. If you are a senior - overnight rates are $15 - what a deal. We had a 40' rv and towing. No problems and did not have to unhook to navigate the area. We camped at Trace State Park in a Motorhome.

The park is what an RV park should be. Full hookups at every site in Deer Run Loop. Tall pine trees dot the park. All but two sites back up to the lake. Sites on the east give a clear view of the sun rise and on the west, the sunset. In park amenities include fishing, hiking trails, Bike trails and a whole lot more. While there are water sports, there is no swimming and the water level has been drawn down due to a problem with the a levee. The entrance road is in need of resurfacing but the it's worth it. Love all Mississippi state parks. Our site was #26. Level on the lake. Site is a built up area but plenty room. Lots of dead wood around to use for your camp fire. Lake is still low due to need for repairs. Close to Tupelo shopping. I did not see any bad sites at this park. Staff friendly, bath houses clean. Park clean. Second visit for us. Will be back. The park is a beautifully designed park. Most sites back on to a lake so you can just walk to the waters edge. All sites in the Deer Run section are full hookups Some are 50 amp. Tall pine trees give shade from the full heat of the sun. I visited the bath house at Deer Run, and was very disappointed to find only one shower stall and only a small bench to hold you clothes. This bath house is NOT handicap accessible. Located about 5 miles off high way 278, the entry road is in need of repaving. But the drive it worth it. I saw several deer, rabbit and other wild critters. I really enjoyed the quiet Relaxing park. Be sure to make reversions because the park fills up quickly on the weekends. Tupelo is 6 miles from the park should you wish to shop or dine. The Natchez Trace is near if you wish to curse it. In the other direction you will find antique shop line Main street in Pontotoc. While there we had lunch a Austins on Main street. Good food, good service. Get there early.

Senior rate (65+) for a full hookup site (#24). Very nice State Park campground located on a lake. All sites have nice views of the lake. Access road to the park is quite rough but the campground is worth the drive. It is a nice layover if you are driving the Natchez Trace. We were here for one night before taking delivery of our new RV at Sherman RV located 20 miles away. We would camp here again. We camped at Trace State Park in a Motorhome.

Beautiful campground laid out around a lake. Sites are long and level concrete pads. Many are shady and have sewer. It is fairly close to a major road so there was some road noise. After 3 o’clock there was a lot of noisy activity on the lake. Good TV reception. Most of the trails allow ATVs and dirt bikes which is good if you enjoy that sort of thing but not if you are looking for a tranquil walking trail. No alcohol allowed or motorized toys; great bathrooms and the best laundry of any park with reasonable charges. They are putting in a new campground near the trail head. Unfortunately they clear cut and it will be years before there is any shade. We camped at Trace State Park in a Motorhome.
