Beautiful sites. We stayed on LOBIOLLY loop Site number 14. Perfect site for our 30 foot trailer and Chevy Silverado Dually long bed. Full shade. We're here for the weekend and many families are here with their boats and small children. It's still client with an occasional group of kids on bikes. Road to the entire park and to the dam. There are beaches. Plenty of picnic areas for a packed lunch. Gorgeous sunrise from our site. Laundry looks ok, will utilize later today. Definitely a return place. $10 fee is with National Park pass. Damsite welcome center open Monday through Friday 7:30 AM to 4 PM. Here on Saturday we missed it. Park, not campground, could use some grass cutting. No firewood for sale but feel free to burn anything already on the ground and there's lots of it. Good exercise picking it up! We camped at Twiltley Branch COE in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

We tripped across this park on our way south to warmer weather. We liked it so well we stayed for the week. Sites are large offering water and 30/50 amp power. Included are a fire pit, private beach, picnic table and endless hours of wildlife entertaining you. Cell phone reception and television reception were very good. The park staff, hosts and volunteers were great. Only down side was the shower facility (yes only 1 for the park) had poor lighting with only one bulb working, dirty floors and walls and poor heating. On the upside the water was hot with good pressure for a shower. Picture taking and hiking were our main focuses. There are Osprey, Eagle, Killdeer, Egret and Blue Heron. This is a true lake front campground. Our dog loved the miles of beach. As it was winter we had little concern of her coming across alligators or snakes. We camped at Twiltley Branch COE in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Visit the Dam, hike the wildlife management area, fish, swim or boat on the 4000 acre lake. Groceries and services close by. Keep dog on leash as alligators are present during warmer weather. As a flooding area snakes may be present on the trails. We did not see any but we were there in January.

This park rests on the banks of beautiful Okatibbee Lake. Many campers parked their boats directly on the bank behind their RVs. The sites are level and gravel. Each one has a fire pit and table and lantern hook. The sites are well shaded by tall trees. Sites 2 and 4 are the only ones that can get a signal from an RV-mounted satellite dish, but they would be hot during the summer. Many campers used portable satellite dishes. Power was good during our stay. Water pressure was fine. Fishing must be good as there were many fishermen in the campground. We will return. We camped at Twiltley Branch COE in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Turn right off Hwy 19 if headed north from Meridian. About ½ mile further a totally sun-bleached brown sign points to a left turn to the campground. This sign is easy to miss. Further down this paved road (1 to 2 miles), you will see an entry kiosk directly ahead. This is not the campground kiosk. Instead look for another campground sign and make a right turn toward another entry kiosk that is for the campground. We've been here twice, and though the kiosk attendant was different both times, don't expect a courteous welcome.

Overall Rating:

Typical COE park - excellent layout, well spaced large sites, good facilities. The campground has three main camping areas and is on a large lake. The terrain is flat - great for bicycling and walking. The campground is wooded with pines and hardwoods, but with little undergrowth. There is only one centrally located full bath house (with showers) for the campground, however, there are several permanent chemical toilets dispersed throughout the campground. The bath house has adequate parking spaces. Each site is equipped with a fire pit, a stand-up grill, lantern hanger and a picnic table. The sites are generally very level and are elevated for good drainage. There are hiking trails, but those are not well marked except for where some of them cross the roads. Consequently, they are not well used and "worn down" so they are hard to follow. Some of the trails disappear after a few hundred yards. Printed maps of the campground were not available when we checked in. Sites 1-50 are in the woods. Sites 51-62 are nonelectric and are open with no wind block. They are adjacent to a play field, boat ramp and basketball court. Sites 63-64 (not shown on the map) and 65 are separated from the other sites and adjacent to their own pavilion which would be a great place for a group RV camping event. 50 amp power and water pressure was good at our site. Verizon coverage = 3/5 bars, terrestrial TV reception = 5 stations. There is a "real" grocery store, hardware store, drug store and fuel within 3 miles of the campground. We camped at Twiltley Branch COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Interesting fact - This campground is a flood control area so it is used to hold excess water to prevent downstream flooding. There is a marker on a tree in the campground indicating the high water mark for April, 1979. The marker is about 11 feet high!

This is a well manicured park, gravel sites are almost all lakeside, and spacious. The site pad was generous with room for a tent in addition to sitting area, large picnic table, and fire ring. The camp hosts are friendly and helpful. I did not see any hiking trails, but the grounds and roads gave ample and safe walking/running/biking opportunities. Water and Electric only, but dump station was well maintained. Great value for America the Beautiful Pass holders. We stayed in a 33' 5th wheel and had no problems navigating the roads or sites. This Corps of Engineers park is on Okatibbee Lake, a flood control reservoir. Like many other COE campgrounds, this one is very well maintained and everything is clean and welcoming. Sites are spacious, mostly shaded, and consist of fine gravel held in place by wooden berms. The extent of the fine gravel is such that virtually the whole site is included. The rate shown reflects a 50% discount for the federal senior pass. Premium sites right on the water are a couple of dollars more. During our mid-week stay, there was only one other camper in our loop. No wi-fi, but our Verizon card worked perfectly and over-the-air TV did as well. We'd stay here again, especially given the excellent value and pretty scenery. We camped at Twiltley Branch COE in a Motorhome.

The campground is about 10 miles north of Meridian. We stayed here so I could do some train watching in Meridian, a popular location with a second story viewing platform open to the public. Three different railroads operate within sight of Union Station.

Black Gum Loop is first come first serve, sites 29-38 are close together and shorter for the larger RV. Sites 39-50 are spaced out a little more and will accommodate 42 ft Motorhome. Loblolly loop is heavily treed and most sites are tight for a MH with slides. Sites 2,4,5,6,8,17,19,&23 looked the best for me and larger motorhome.

Quiet week with only about 7 campers in our loop. 15 yards from water, garbage cans at your site, bathhouse is about 3/4 mile away. We will definitely camp here again. We camped at Twiltley Branch COE in a Motorhome.

Campground spots are a little close but were large with gravel area.

Nice lake and piney woods. Over air TV was good but satellite would be a little hard to get with all the trees. Check your power if using 50 amps; we had to move because our spot didn't work. Checked other spots and mud daubers had built nest in the 50 amp plug-ins. We camped at Twiltley Branch COE in a Fifth Wheel.

This COE campground is a great find in Mississippi on a beautiful reservoir. Most campsites are well shaded. We were at #12. It is very shaded and spacious with a large grassy area behind. It was a little tricky backing in because of some trees, but we managed. There are several boat tie up spots behind those campsites with good kayak launch access. The saw grass can be overwhelming, but beautiful. I love that there was a garbage can available at our campsite. I didn't like that with no sewer hookup available the bathrooms were 1/4 mile away. Bicycles made that easier. It's a nice place for families, boaters, kayakers, bikers, but if you don't have a boat, don't expect a great deal of fishing access. We camped at Twiltley Branch COE in a Travel Trailer.

This is a beautiful park on the lake. The sounds of the frogs and insects at night was amazing. The sites are level with gravel pads. Some sites had large trees on one or both sides of the pad, making getting into the site a little difficult. We camped at Twiltley Branch COE in a Fifth Wheel.

There are several other COE parks on the lake. Our GPS took us through several residential areas in Meridian. This isn't necessary. Hwy 19 connects directly from I20 to Lauderdale road.

We stayed in pad 6. It is very shady, roomy, and easy to back into. It is a big park with lots of room. The sites are set apart plenty. The grass needed cutting. There is no sewer so be prepared for that. We were close enough to ride our bike to the lake beach which is outside the park. We will continue to visit. If there were sewer hookups this would be a 10. Price reflects Senior Pass discount. This park is off the beaten path, but well worth the trip. Gravel pads. Ours was under mature trees so no satellite but no big deal. We were in site 10 with alovely sunset view on the water. If you are in the area, this is the one. This is a beautiful park with nice level gravel sites that are widely spaced. There are three different areas to camp long the dam. Many sites are shaded. All sites have fire rings and grills as well as trash cans spaced frequently along the road. Bathhouse was heated and showers were hot and clean. The only downside for us, is that since we are in a Truck Camper the location of the bathhouse is important. There is only one central bath house for the entire park and it was a 5 to 7 minute walk from the campsite loop nearest to the bathhouse. Not bad on a nice day, but not good on a rainy day. Still, we would camp here again. We camped at Twiltley Branch COE in a Truck Camper.

I prefer trees, quiet, waterfront, enjoyable running, biking, and dog walking. I have stayed in many COE campgrounds. For my tastes they are the best. I planned on 2-3 days at Twiltley, I stayed 2 weeks. I pulled into the site, vs. backing in. Great lake view, 15 yards form the shore, surrounded by trees, quiet broken only by the occasional passing motor boat. The walking etc., was so relaxing and safe. The lack of electronic perks is actually a blessing. No internet, no TV (unless you have satellite) but NPR is available on radio. Nine miles north of Meridian. All things considered, I am comfortable with my 10 rating for this park. We camped at Twiltley Branch COE in a Motorhome.
