Overall Rating:

There are now two separate campgrounds here. The older section located very close to the Pass Road gate and a newer section (2016?) located at the far west end of the base. The older section has mostly pull troughs and a few backins. There are no trees, sites are large and streets are easily navigable. But overall very sterile looking. No protection from severe weather (thunderstorms). We stayed in the newer section. There are trees bordering the campground offering protection from severe weather. Which was common during our stay. Sites are slightly smaller but will handle the largest RV and a vehicle. Roads are just as navigable as the older section. Night lighting has mostly decorative low light on three foot poles, effective but not harsh and very pleasing. There are a few street lights. Overall good lighting throughout campground. WiFi is free throughout and requires sign up using a credit card. Only one device can be connected at a time using the account. There are numerous WiFi antennas in the campground. WiFi signal is very good (-43db). We only used our unlimited AT&T data. All sites are concrete with small portion of asphalt connecting to the road. You can easily park your vehicle in your site. The bathhouse is one of the best I've every seen at a FamCamp. There are four private bathrooms. All are tiled, sink, hair dryer, toilet and shower. See photos. There is a laundry here and very clean. Grounds are well maintained, grass is mowed, no trash, bathrooms are exceptionally clean. There are 'seasonals ' here, but you can't tell. Appearance of campground is excellent. Water pressure varied between 30/40 psi. This campground is VERY quiet. No train or emergency vehicle noise here. There is a commissary and exchange here. Commissary is not small as stated in earlier reviews. Exchange is typical in size. There is a base theater, but only open on weekends during our stay. The Navy has done a great job on this FamCamp! We camped at Shields RV Park (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

Good value. We stayed two nights on our way to Florida. As others have said, the park is just inside the Pass Road gate and easy to get to. We camped at Shields RV Park (Military FamCamp) in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

We have been here for 45 days and it has been a wonderful stay. The park is great. It is clean, roomy side to side and front to back and each site has its own grassy area. The 'yards' are meticulously maintained as is the whole park. The sites are concrete pads and the roads are asphalt. Nice, wide roads and deep sites. Wifi is good. The speed is good and we didn't have any problems with it. The Verizon cell signal is strong and, because there are no trees, our satellite dish zoomed right in. The staff at the office are great. The park (base) is only about 6 blocks from the beautiful Gulfport beaches and there are a lot of restaurants and just about anything else you might need. Now here's the bad news. Trains! Each day/night there are about 3 to 5 trains going through town and they blow their horns as if they are going through a school yard. There is a little traffic noise from the road to north side, but it isn't too bad unless there are emergency vehicles. And, there are emergency vehicles in this area often. All in all, we would stay here again and again. We camped at Shields RV Park (Military FamCamp) in a Fifth Wheel.

The base is easy to find and the older park where we have visited on four occasions is just inside the gate. The sites are roomy and level, the park is clean, and office staff friendly. Shields is not in a rural location so normal city noises are to be expected. Granted, there are rules and regulations applicable to the base and park; however, we are grateful to be guests of our military installations and appreciate any regulations that apply. When approaching the gate wait for the sentry to wave you up. They will indicate the easiest pass through for you. The only item that could make this a 10 instead of a 9 is to have a little gathering room for folks to meet. We camped at Shields RV Park (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

We stayed in the "older" park section, conveniently located near the Pass Road gate, for about 10 days after buying our Airstream. We found the park staff to be very accommodating, allowing us to extend our stay on the same site. Our site was level and spacious with a concrete pad large enough for our Airstream and truck with plenty of patio space. There was a significant amount of standing water on the site following any rain, but seemed to drain/dry quickly. The bath/shower facility is very nice, even had crown molding at the ceiling! We camped at Shields RV Park (Military FamCamp) in a Travel Trailer.

We have stayed here several times and decided to try the "new campground" on this trip. The new addition is smaller than the original park but is in a location towards the rear of the base so it is very quiet. The large dog parks and lake are a short walk away. The sites are shorter and roads are not as wide as the original park. Next time we return we will probably go back to the "old" park just because of the extra room you have at the sites. This is a great facility in a good location. We camped at Shields RV Park (Military FamCamp) in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Their are fast food restaurants, stores, and sit down restaurants within a few miles of the park. Their is a small NEX, NFCU and NEX shoppette on the base. The NEX shoppette does have diesel but we did find it cheaper of base.

Excellent campground that is convenient to beaches, boating, casinos, and more! The campground is well maintained and clean. The WIFI was a pleasent experience, because it acutally worked all the time. Did not experience the normal slow WIFI, normally found in RV Parks that advertise WIFI. There are actually two campgrounds at Shields RV Park, both by the same name. The main campground is near the entrance to the base! It has FHUs, WIFI, and Cable TV. The second campground is on the far western side of the base, near the golf gourse and lake. It has FHUs; however, it doesn't have WIFI or Cable TV. This one is has a few trees, more grass and appears to be quieter than the main campground. Will gladly stay here again! We camped at Shields RV Park (Military FamCamp) in a Travel Trailer.

Very large concert pads on a pull through site. The only negative is there's no shade. Easy to get on and off base. Very strong free WiFi. Nicest military park I've been to. We camped at Shields RV Park (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

The campground just opened a new section back by SeaBee Lake and this review concerns this new section. All sites are back ins and even though the concrete pad is the same size as those in the main campground (the main campground has large spaces for vehicle parking), the sites are considerably shorter. Units are not allowed to stick out over the grass so there is little room to park a vehicle unless you have a short rig. A couple of long term campers with big rigs moved out to this section and their vehicles were either parked on an unoccupied site or sticking out in the road. The road is narrow and some of the sites will be difficult to back into messing up the nice pretty new grass. There is a bathhouse/laundry in this section with a nearby play ground and dog park. SeaBee lake is a short walk. The office will remain at the main campground near the front gate. In my opinion, big rigs would be better at the main campground as the new section is not really big rig friendly. We camped at Shields RV Park (Military FamCamp) in a Fifth Wheel.

65 pull through sites with full hook up and cable just inside the gates of this small SeaBee base. Since in the winter most of the sites are taken by seasonal residents they are opening a second park on the other end of the base in April 2016. We went to tour that facility as well, which is close to the lake, boat rentals, golf facility, paintball, children's park and more. Both facilities will allow reservations, and on line reservations are being offered starting April 1. As always, the facility is clean and well maintained. We camped at Shields RV Park (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

Excellent RV facility. Concrete roads and sites. Sites are level. Free cable and wi-fi. Close to beaches and casinoes. Small but adequate commissary and exchange on base. Large dog park and recreation facility also on base.
Patio and picnic table at each site. Lots of room to ride bikes around the base. Will definitely stay here again. This place is a "10"! We camped at Shields RV Park (Military FamCamp) in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

This is a very nice military campground. A maximum stay of 6 months is allowed and the pull thrus are reserved for the long term campers. There are some back in sites reserved for short term campers and there were sites available the entire time we were there. No trees in the campground courtesy of Katrina. There is lots of noise from the nearby rain track and there must be some sort of emergency services just outside the base because the siren noise was frequent. If you are noise sensitive, you may not like this campground. Office staff was very friendly and helpful. You can enter the pass gate with no issues but departed using the commercial gate because we had more swing room to get through the barriers. Bathrooms and laundry have combo locks so make sure you get the codes from the office. Free wifi is available but you have to enter loads of information and we just used our Verizon mifi which had an excellent signal. We will return. We camped at Shields RV Park (Military FamCamp) in a Fifth Wheel.
