Quick Lay out: Lower level sites 1-12 at lake level, sites close together for FS CG. Sites pretty level. Sites 13-22 more spread out, some not close to level, location of the only pull through site. Only some sites will fit big rigs. Roads paved as are sites. Steep roads down to CG but easy to maneuver around. Some sites might be hard to get into. Only some sites will handle a 45' coach. Specifics: Site paved with large gravel patio, picnic table, fire ring lantern posts. Dump station on the way out. Power 20/30/50 amp with water. Bathrooms and showers spotless, showers are push button that run pretty long, water was warm to hot with good pressure. Our site,19,was pretty level with great view of lake. Verizon phone ok, Mifi slow 3G at camp sometimes up the hill by host site ok 4G. No host at this time. There is fishing and non motorized boating on the small lake (electric motor ok). Lots of trails for hiking/mountain biking in the area 10+ mile loops or out and back all from camp ground area. Come fully supplied, the closest grocery stores are in Natchez (30+) miles away. The CG was full on the weekend but pretty open during the week. All sites are 1st come. We'd stay here again if we're in the area. We camped at Clear Springs Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

This is a beautiful park with three sections; an "Upper Loop", a smaller "Lower Loop", and a primitive area. The campsites in the Lower Loop have asphalt paved parking lanes with spacious gravel areas, a fire ring and a picnic table. The parking lanes are short and the sites are close together. The more desirable Upper Loop was closed for electrical repairs. The park host was very helpful and made frequent trips around the area to ensure everything was clean and proper. We stayed at Clear Springs on a holiday weekend and all the sites were full. We camped at Clear Springs Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

We thought we might want to stay in the unserviced area, but after seeing the terraced campsites with a view of the lake we couldn't resist. Pretty as a picture. Clean and quiet too. The showers were hot and free. The trails could use some new markings, but we didn't get lost or have to turn around. The primitive area is outside the main gate. There is no water available there, but the sites are far apart and the road (graveled) is in good condition. They go for $7.00 per night. We camped at Clear Springs Recreation Area in a Travel Trailer.

The good: The area has a nice lake and several great hiking trails, ranging from about a mile up to 10 miles. The camping spots were mostly level, if somewhat uneven. They had large flat areas for tents and nice fire rings. It was very quiet and dark - great star viewing between the tall pine trees. Should be nice and shady during the summer. Very clean campground, and the host was superbly friendly and helpful.

Not so good: Some sites were somewhat short, even for a TM 3023. We stayed in #3, and I had to park across the drive after unhitching to stay out of the road. This campground does not take reservations. We arrived at about 5:30 PM on Friday before MLK weekend and took one of the last two spots. The last spot was filled within 20 minutes of our arrival. Due to tree removal, one of the two campground loops was closed, so they were down to 11 of their normal 22 sites. The showers in the lower loop bathrooms got no warmer than tepid. The swimming area showers were much better. The facilities could have used a little more maintenance: broken faucet in the bathroom, broken board on the playground, aforementioned lack of hot water.

Google Maps and our GPS directed us down Wagon Wheel Road to get to the campground. This was a rough gravel road and NOT the right way. Stay on the paved road: the campground is straight ahead in a short distance. We camped at Clear Springs Recreation Area in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

This campground is not near anything. Bring what you need with you. Natchez, MS was about 25 minutes west of Clear Springs. It was a neat place to explore.

We thoroughly enjoyed soaking in the beauty of God's creation at this park. The RV sites are surrounded by towering trees. We spent a large portion of our time hiking on the trails. There are two 10+ mile trails that are accessible from the park as well as a 1 mile trail around the lake. There are lots of hills. It was almost like being in the mountains. The campground hostess was very helpful and it was obvious that she really enjoys her job. We will definitely be going back to this park. I would recommend loop B(sites 1-12) if you have a large motorhome. We camped at Clear Springs Recreation Area in a Travel Trailer.

Most sites are small and close together. We arrived in the middle of a weekday and found the place full, except for 2 sites that we could not fit in, so we moved on. We camped at Clear Springs Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Very secluded area. The spots are first-come, first-serve. No reservations. Payment is made on the honor-system. A park ranger visits and makes sure your spot number matches your payment. This place is miles away from everything. The closest convenience store is about 10 miles away in the tiny town of Meadville: there are no fast food places in the area at all. So I would suggest bringing along your food, drink, fuel. The spots are level and very nice. No sewer on the sites but there is a dump station at the front of the park. The roads are very narrow and the steep inclines would make it very difficult for any large motorhome. The tall trees and hills block any type of breeze, which makes it very hot in the summer months. We will most likely come back, but it will be in the late fall or winter months. We camped at Clear Springs Recreation Area in a Travel Trailer.

The sites near to the beach could handle big rigs but the sites on the hill are tight. We camped at Clear Springs Recreation Area in a Fifth Wheel.

Great National Forest campground. Beautiful shaded sites, some with decks overlooking the hills and the lake. Bike trails through the forest with plenty of hiking available also. Feels as if you are in the mountains rather than deep down in Dixie. We will stay there every chance we get. We camped at Clear Springs Recreation Area in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

This campground is ran by the US Forest Service and what a hidden jewel they have in southwest Mississippi. It is located about halfway between Natchez and Brookhaven about five miles south of US Hwy 84. Only one brown Forest Service sign indicates the turn off so you have to keep your eyes peeled. It is a beautiful campground with spacious, well-tended sites. Numerous hiking trails and a clear spring-fed lake make it a wonderful place to bring the kids. The lake has a sandy beach for swimming. Fishing is also allowed as is primitive camping. Would gladly pay an extra few dollars a night if they would upgrade the bathhouses above the apparent "low-bid" government design. Will definitely be camping here again. We camped at Clear Springs Recreation Area in a Tent Trailer.
