This campground is a gem. Quiet, secluded but right next to residential Ocean Springs. Ocean Springs is a beautiful town with clean beaches. Biking in the area is fun. Low traffic and pretty streets in Ocean Springs. The park roads are also low traffic. The park's upland trails are a great addition to the National Seashore. We camped at Davis Bayou Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

I agree with previous reviews. Just be careful when maneuvering your rig. Nice ranger, beautiful visitor center. Now, the downside. If you are staying here because you need a base of operation for a few days, then there is plenty to do around Biloxi. If you believe the Park is a destination in itself for beach activities and exploring, think again. National Seashore spreads for a hundred miles in both directions, very little of which touches this park. It is a location for a visitor center, which happens to have a campground. The place is pretty, has a lagoon and some trails, but is surrounded by residential areas. If you came for a week, don't have a smaller vehicle to get around with, and are expecting alot from the Park, you may be disappointed. We camped at Davis Bayou Campground in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: February, 2018 - $11.00
Overall Rating:

This is a small campground consisting of 52 water/electric sites (no sewer). As others have stated, this park is hard to get in/out of for big rigs due to low hanging branches and large trees. We stayed in site 21, which was pretty tight for our 40' fifth wheel and tow dually. All of the sites are asphalt and the majority have a front to rear slope which will require leveling. The most challenging sites for big rigs are sites 8 through 22, as it will require maneuvering around a large tree to get into the loop and another set of trees going around a very tight loop which will most likely require a spotter to get around. The marks on the trees tell the story of those who didn't quite make it so use caution. Each site has a concrete patio, picnic table and fire ring. Our fire ring was not cleaned before we arrived, so we had to empty the trash that had been in it. The park is in a good location, with access to dining, shopping and the casinos. It's in a marshy area, so no-see-ums are prevalent and hungry. Dump station was located in the middle of the campground and we were able to get in/out without any issues. Bathrooms were small but clean. Showers are private (separate from the bathrooms), clean and water pressure was good. Good Verizon cell service and we were able to get 20 or so OTA channels. Easy walking distance to dumpster and they have recycling as well. Campground host was friendly and helpful, and gave us much needed assistance to get into our site. You will hear noise from the nearby train, but it didn't bother us. The fishing pier in the park is closed due to hurricane damage. We had hoped to take the ferry to West Ship Island to see Fort Massachusetts, but the island is closed due to Hurricane Nate. The visitors center was nice and informative. Downtown Ocean Springs is close by and they provide a walking map for your visit. Although we enjoyed our stay, we will most likely not return to this campground. We camped at Davis Bayou Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Walmart is a few miles away. There's a Rouses grocery just outside of the park. Ocean Springs was a nice place to spend time walking around. We ate dinner at McElroy's on the Bayou which I don't recommend (food was served cold).

We stayed here 6 nights and enjoyed everything except the noseeums. Site was fairly narrow and asphalt. We are 37' long and didn't have issues getting around the main loop of the park. Our site was pretty level and had two large live oaks one on each side so if you don't have slide toppers they will require sweeping prior to leaving. There is only one dump station in the center of the park so you get practice navigating the loop. Utilities worked well and we were able to get several OTA tv channels. We would stay here again if in the area. We camped at Davis Bayou Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Stayed at this park for one night on our return trip home. Did not have a reservation but were able to get a site as they were not very busy. Reservations, if possible, would be best as this is a small park. Check in was easy and rate reflects Golden Age discount. Roads and sites are paved, needed a little leveling. Water and electric only, dump station available. Restroom and showers very clean. Utilities worked well. Good campground to use as a base to explore the area. Would camp here again if in the area. We camped at set#14. It was not perfectly level, but we were able to make it work with levelers. Watch out for raccoons at night, they will take anything resembling food. They stole my ice chest. It was a small soft sided kind. They have a fire pit and picnic table on each site. Our site was shady most of the time. The restroom were clean. We hiked some trails, they were very nice. We would definitely camp here again. No sewer. We camped at Davis Bayou Campground in a Motorhome.

First let me say the our entire stay here was really nice and the friendly staff is first rate. The site we had, was one of the most requested sites, and easily fit our 40 footer with 4 slides. The park was very clean and well kept. Now the downside. For a big rig, this is a tough park to get in and out of not because of the roads, but because the trees are in desperate need of a good trimming. I had to stop and slowly go around as best I could the low lying limbs and vines. If they would trim the tress, this would easily be a 9 rating. We camped at Davis Bayou Campground in a Motorhome.

This is truly a hidden gem. It is a quiet, shady, clean and peaceful park. Good interior road leading to nice paved sites. It is somewhat dated, and not all sites are lazer level. But it is hard to beat for the money. When making reservations pay attention to site length because some are quiet short. It very convenient to shopping, restaurants and casinos. My "8" rating would be "9" if is had sewage and site 19 has a drop of form the trailer steps to the patio that demanded caution. We camped at Davis Bayou Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

This campground is part of Gulf Islands National Seashore's Davis Bayou Unit. Environment is a coastal oak, pine, hickory, and magnolia forest interspersed with salt marsh bayous. Easy check-in with a friendly NPS ranger. Our site was in the spur off of the loop and overlooked a bayou (albeit through the trees). Clean and well kept. No wooded privacy between sites, very open. The loop sites are nearly all sun or marginally partial shade. More shady on the spur. All sites asphalt paved with picnic table and fire ring. The site sloped to the rear and was off lateral by about 4 inches, so levelers may be necessary. Electric and water worked fine. Dump station modern, oddly right in the middle of the campground near an intersection. DTV provided basic PBS, CBS, ABC and was limited to about 17 channels. Many places to walk and trails to hike. I enjoyed the CCC trail with its great plant diversity and history. Blue crabs on the dock near the visitor center were bountiful. Park is a popular place for local residents as well as tourists. The weekend crowd was a bit noisy, and there had to be one camper who just couldn't bear to put his dog on a leash, which was a bit of a nuisance. Once the weekend crowd left, the place was really quiet. Although other reviewers seem to have observed many open sites without reservations, the CG was packed each night we were there and I cannot imagine not having reservations. We will camp here again. We camped at Davis Bayou Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Downtown Ocean Springs is the place to be for eateries, pubs, and art. Rouses Grocery just outside the park gate to the west on U.S. 90 is a regional Louisiana specialty grocery store that is a must to visit for local Cajun foods. No-See-Ums (salt marsh midges) can be pesky at times, so repellent should be on hand.

It's a 15 minute or so drive south of the interstate at Ocean Springs, MS to this nice campground. The sites are water/electric only with good roads and paved sites. We received a friendly welcome and, when we needed to change sites, the ranger helped us out, putting us in a more suitable site. Several of the sites on the parameter (but not all) on the main loop have a considerable slope front to rear. It was highly unlikely that we would have gotten the 5th wheel level in our original site, even with the landing gear as short as possible. We were allowed to move to a more suitable spot. The campground, itself, is clean and pretty and the park beyond the campground boasts a beautiful Welcome Center and lots of nicely developed hiking trails. We had some issues with biting gnats (no-see-ums) which are a bit of a nuisance. All in all, we think this is a good stop along I10 especially if you are good with water/electric only and can avoid the problem sites. We camped at Davis Bayou Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Great value and good location. Secluded and quiet but good shopping and sites within 5-10 miles. Small campground with active camp host. Excellent showers. Clean! Clean bathrooms. Very appreciated. Lots of space to walk and bike in the park. No wifi but good over the air tv. The sites themselves are only drawback. Too narrow and short for our 40' toyhauler and tow dually to fit. Dirt around narrow asphalt pad that I couldn't keep out of rv. Other than that. Great small basic clean and safe campground. We camped at Davis Bayou Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed here while visiting friends in the area. Nice campground on the National Seashore, with a few trails. Convenient for visiting Ocean Springs or Biloxi. Our site was long enough, but a very large tree right on the edge of the pad made backing in, and lining up our slide a real challenge. While we would stay here again, I wouldn't put a large RV in site 4 again. Staff and volunteers at the CG were nice and helpful. We camped at Davis Bayou Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

They put us in site 49. We have a 40 class A. The tarred pavement is aweful. A large eruption and deep well kept up from pulling all the way in to site. Therefore you cannot open yout awning because you are in between two very large oak trees. This site needs to be ripped up and leveled and replaced. Very disappointed after driving 5 hours to get here. All other sites are cement and taken. You can not choose your site they assign them as you book. They know we are 40 foot. Maybe rangers and camp host should light a fire up there bottoms and maintain there sites. Sorry Not A Happy Camper. Also no place the car because of limited ate space due to messed up site. I'm a camper newbie but compared to other parks we've stayed in or driven through, this was very nice. Quiet, shady, spaces not too close together, level, easy access, beautiful setting. A nice park for walking, biking, kayaking. As near as I could see, none of the sites had a bayou view. Maybe in the winter? We camped at Davis Bayou Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

To bike into Ocean Springs, take the super-secret side entrance (bike & ped only) to avoid Hwy 90 and the long road into the park. Ride straight out of the campground into the large picnic area (don't take the right turn towards 90); it's a short distance on your left. This will take you through quiet neighborhoods. Turn left on Halstead and bike a short distance to a lovely public beach or use your phone to navigate to downtown. Ask the ranger if you can't find the side entrance.
