We arrived on October 1st and stay 4 nights to visit the historical battle ground, the park has a museum, the park ranger was very helpful, the office manager very nice lady, all the staff very attentive and acknowledgeable of the place, we really enjoy our stay. Since we were the only ones at our arrival, we chose our spot. We camped at Grand Gulf Military Monument Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We have visited this park a number of times both for work and pleasure. It is well maintained in a beautiful setting with historic monuments and artifacts on display. They offer full hookups at a very reasonable price. It is quiet with plenty of wildlife to watch. The staff members are knowledgeable about the history of the park, area attractions and restaurants. We camped at Grand Gulf Military Monument Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Great campground if you are into history. Not too many campers this time of the year. What ever you need take with you because civilization is a long way off. Did get a few ota tv stations. Good hiking in the park but very hilly. We camped at Grand Gulf Military Monument Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

This is an absolutely wonderful state Park. It is about 8 Miles off Highway 61 but it is well worth the drive. the setting is lush and beautiful with large trees between most of the lower campground spots The concrete pad was level and easy to back into. R 39 foot fifth wheel fit with no problem with the back and extended over the rear site bumper. The utilities were well-placed and worked well. We got multiple OTA television channels and Verizon service was adequate. The lower section of the campground does not have fire pits however these are available in the upper sections. The upper area has less shade and the sites appear to be much less even. The free shower facility and laundry for the lower section is up a flight of stairs. The laundry room was large and had three washers and .dryers. Cost was a dollar for the washing and $0.75 for dryers. There is a small Museum and several restored buildings on site as well as a very old cemetery from the early 1800s. The drive into Vicksburg was about 40 minutes and there is gas and services along Highway 61. We would definitely stay here again. The office staff and the Ranger were full of information and Incredibly friendly. We camped at Grand Gulf Military Monument Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Stayed here Saturday through Tuesday just to get away from work and the stress on the daily grind. Great place to relax, not much of a cell signal or TV channels, bring some movies and games. Gentleman at the park office/museum was terrific, a lot of information and very friendly. We were the only camper on this section with him, until the last night. Concrete pad was almost level, no problems with hook-ups. Bath house older but clean and everything worked. Port Gibson is a few miles away so bring your provisions and grill. Saw deer and turkeys, and listened to the owls at night. Great place to get away. We camped at Grand Gulf Military Monument Park in a Travel Trailer.

A lot of historic sites from Vicksburg to Natchez and along the Natchez Trace. The old cemetery on Greenwood Street in Port Gibson and the Ruins of Windsor are must sees. The Country Store in Lorman, just down Hwy 61, Mr. D's fried chicken is awesome!

Overall Rating:

Nice quiet park with friendly, helpful staff. The park does not take reservations, but advised us to call within a few days of our expected arrival to see if there would be vacancies, which we did, and there was only one other camper on the lower campground, which was our preferred area, as it had full hook-ups and level, concrete pads. The bath house and laundry are on the upper level, with a fairly steep drive up to that area. The museum and historical buildings are very interesting, but the sites along the river were closed during our visit due to flooding. We had storms which knocked out the electric service, twice, which was ironic as there is a power plant a few miles down the road! Despite the poor weather, we enjoyed our stay and would definitely visit again if in the area. We camped at Grand Gulf Military Monument Park in a Travel Trailer.

We arrived as a storm was brewing and the Operations Manager, Bud came to our rig and said just go get set up in any available site, and come to the office whenever it's convenient. So we selected the lower campground, site 11. We very much enjoyed our stay. We visited the museum, the park displays, and the other areas near the river. We were able to receive DISH satellite, and Verizon 4GLTE at about 3mb, which was acceptable. We camped at Grand Gulf Military Monument Park in a Motorhome.

We stayed in the lower section for 2 nights and were the only campers in that section except for the host. Restroom and showers were older but clean. The grounds and museum are very interesting with many historical items to see and there is also a good hilly walking loop available (great for the dogs). The museum workers and the camp host were very friendly and helpful. We camped at Grand Gulf Military Monument Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a very nice RV Park that I would call a gem in hiding. We enjoyed a 2-night stay and were treated very well by the check-in staff and campground host. A short drive to the bank of the Mississippi River is very enjoyable. The Civil War museum and historic buildings are very enjoyable. My wife and I found this park a couple of years ago when passing through the area. We knew at this time we would desire to return and camp at Grand Gulf.

I would be happy to stay at this park again in the future. We camped at Grand Gulf Military Monument Park in a Motorhome.

A really nice quiet park. Just know that it is very remote down a long road from the main road of Rt 61. Very spotty phone and data coverage. OTA TV had about 4 channels so bring a book. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The park has a nice but hilly walk of a 1 1/2 mile around the park and several buildings of historical value. The sites were very well spaced, shaded, and were cement. The only problem was the sewer hookup that was at the end of the site which required a 20 ft. hose. We visited Port Gibson for about 1/2 hour, not much there and seemed very depressed. We would stay again if in the area. We camped at Grand Gulf Military Monument Park in a Fifth Wheel.

What a nice campground! We were pleasantly surprised at this out of the way place. Since we are not self-contained, showers and bathrooms are an important criteria. From earlier reviews, we knew we needed to park in the upper area. The facilities were well kept and clean. We camped at Grand Gulf Military Monument Park in a Tent Trailer.

If you need tv (unless you have satellite), wifi (unless you have a personal hotspot), and phone service (unless you're willing to travel 5 miles into town), this is not the place for you. But if you enjoy peace and quiet in a beautiful setting, you'll like this campground. There's an upper and a lower campground. You have to go up a steep hill to get to the upper campground so we stayed in the lower one, and we're glad we did. The upper campground is where the tent sites are located, and they're put to good use by scout troops and school groups on the weekend. The road into the campground is narrow, but the campground was practically empty while we were there so it wasn't an issue. The campground is a perfect place to relax, the people are nice, and the museum and battlefield are free for campers. You can wash your RV for $5 and your car for $2. The laundry has two washers ($1) and two dryers ($0.75). There's a shower/restroom at the upper campground. The shower/restroom/laundry for the lower campground is at the top of a hill, but there are stairs to get to it or you can drive up to it. Since we would rather use the shower and bathroom in our RV anyway, this wasn't a concern for us. We camped at Grand Gulf Military Monument Park in a Motorhome.

The Old Country Store Restaurant on Rt. 61 in Lorman has an all-you-can-eat buffet for $15.95 that is absolutely great. Home-cooked Southern food, including the best fried chicken we've ever had. If you're lucky, Mr. D will be there and will serenade you at your table.

Interesting Civil War era attributes which included a museum, buildings and signage. The host worked in the museum, but also was available to help with obtaining camping sites. We stayed on the "upper level' camp ground which tended to have smaller vehicles, trailers and some tenters. Note that you do not get the same senior or military discounts here as in other Mississippi State Parks. This is a private camp associated with the Mississippi State Parks. Overall Rating:

We stayed 3 days here while visiting the Vicksburg Battlefield sites. We initially planned only 2 days, but this campground is itself part of a military site, and has much to explore. The museum is filled with story and impressive artifacts. The surrounding historic village and cemetery are very impressive. All of this is situated in a well-maintained area nestled in a hardwood forest across the road from the Mississippi. This is the site of a once-vibrant community that was pretty much wiped out by antebellum tragedies including a yellow fever epidemic, a tornado, and a change of the course of the Mississippi River. Shortly after, it was the site where the Confederates repulsed Grant's attempt to cross the river on his way to Vicksburg.

Very friendly and helpful staff. Campsites are level on concrete pads. Quite closely spaced. During our stay, almost all of the sites were taken up by workers from the refueling project at the nearby nuclear power plant, but the managers made sure we had a comfy site. I'd call ahead before arriving to make sure a site is available. Utilities all well maintained, and we were near the clean and well-maintained laundry and showers. Wifi reception was fair at the lower campground; reportedly better at upper campground.

Great hiking opportunities directly accessible from campground.

All in all, a rustic, remote-feeling campground, which we enjoyed. We camped at Grand Gulf Military Monument Park in a Motorhome.

Take a walk up the hill on the wooded trails or road from this campground. Impressive old cemetery, observation tower, and well-preserved rife and artillery emplacements.

The Vicksburg National Battlefield site is very impressive. Plan at least 4 hours. Don't miss the preserved USS Cairo ironclad with all of it's salvaged artifacts which is on the driving route.
