Very spacious, grassy lots with picnic tables. The picnic tables are old and mildewed-they could use a heavy coat of paint. The sites are gravel, but are surrounded by grass, which our dogs loved. We really liked the wide space between the sites. We were NOT packed in tight like sardines, as so many other parks do. There is no cable, so we were only able to watch 5 or 6 local channels. There was a small airport nearby, so when we had the windows open it was very loud. It actually sounded like they might be practicing for an air show or something. We LOVE the way their camp brochures state AMERICAN OWNED/AMERICAN OPERATED. We camped at River Town Campground in a Motorhome.

Do not listen to your GPS! It had us driving through very narrow streets in a residential neighborhood. The park is actually just right off of Route 61, but you have to make a u-turn.

I think that was the rate we paid with Good Sam. Just overnight. Did not observe much. Clean, quiet, level. We camped at River Town Campground in a Travel Trailer.

If you like crushed rock to camp on, you'll probably like it here - there's no concrete in sight. As previously mentioned, sites slope slightly; our levelling jacks handled it satisfactorily. Also as noted earlier, the entry is a steep slope. We just had a new windshield installed in our 43' motorhome, and this slope caused me serious concerns about frame twisting, especially if we had exited via the intended point which requires a sharp turn and simultaneous downward travel, and invitation to frame twisting on long RVs. Once is enough for us at this park. We camped at River Town Campground in a Motorhome.

The park is about 4 miles south of Vicksburg with a somewhat circuitous arrival route necessitated because it was located on a boulevard roadway which requires one to make a crossover turn to enter the park which has a slight upgrade to reach the office.

The grounds are as described in their website with wide, well spaced gravel sites withe many pull-through opportunities and some trees. The grounds are open and clean with minimal nearby road noise. While it is within one mile of the local airport the arrival/departure route is not over the park and offers little noise impact.

The owners are a couple who are very attentive to any cleaning which is required and they both are very pleasant and helpful regarding local tourist opportunities. They even suggested a top local restaurant which we enjoyed because it offered outstanding local type food options. We camped at River Town Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

You should try the Walnut Hill restaurant in Vicksburg which offer a unique option to get a meal at the "roundtable" which offers meal like family style meals at home. The National Military Park run by the NPS is truly outstanding and should be seen by all Americans who want to learn about the true cost of the Civil War and is a must for all true historians.

Wow! What an improvement compared to the park down the road. These folks are very nice: from reservation process, to check in, to seeing you around the park. They even helped us jump start our car. We've stayed here twice this month. Here are a few notes about the park:

All sites slope to the front. One set of 1 1/2" boards under your front tires are necessary to level.

The connections are in the very back. You'll need 20'-30' of sewer hose depending on how far you pull up. You'll need a 25' water hose. No extension was necessary for the power.

The 50 amp power was stable with very good voltage.

While there are a few trashy units, most are clean and well kept. It is obvious the owners do a very good job of keeping the park clean and safe.

To arrive at the park from I-20, you'll need to go just past the park and make a U-turn at Redbone Road as it is a divided highway.

There is sufficient gravel with good roads. The owner (I assume) is on the tractor daily spreading gravel and keeping the sites nice.

If they would build just a few "big rig" sites with level concrete and middle connections, this would go from a good park to a fabulous one (and I'd be willing to pay $40 compared to $25). My only complaint is the extra time I need to spend leveling and setting up here. In any case, it's not trashy and is now our go to park in Vicksburg. We camped at River Town Campground in a Motorhome.

Very Nice Campground, Gravel roads and level gravel sites. No shade trees. this is a very nice campground. there is no AT&T cell service. that is beyond their control. Their hookups are at the rear of the sites, so be prepared to use 20 to 30 feet of sewer hose. We camped at River Town Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed here for a rally. Had a great time in the area - especially visiting the Civil War NP and the downtown river area. If you stay here, you have to eat at the Tomato Place (very eclectic) and also Solly's Hot Tamales. Very little interaction with staff but they were nice. Sites are gravel but mostly level with very little shade. We camped at River Town Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

We were planning a week here however decided to get back on the road after five nights [the rate was weekly]. There's a nice small pool, playground, laundry, bathrooms and showers, so a lot of amenities. The sites have the hookups at the backend of the site and to get level we had to unhook first then maneuver to the back of the site. The park has young trees throughout so sporadic shade. Mowing was being done in spurts and our site had some pretty tall sprouts. The office people were super nice. We camped at River Town Campground in a Motorhome.

I really liked this park. Great value. Has very good water pressure and good 50 amp power. Roads are gravel. Nice long gravel sites that are very roomy. Lots of grass. Nice and quiet at night. My one criticism would be the lack of shade.

I note that some say the sites are on a slope and need lots of leveling. I disagree completely. The rear couple of pull-through rows have a slight incline. The middle pull-through rows look to be completely flat. The hookups are more near the rear then the front - I did not need extensions. The picnic table is not new, but it works fine.

I absolutely will stay here whenever I'm in the neighborhood.

Located about 5-7 miles south of I-20 on US Highway 61. Takes only 10-15 minutes to get to the Vicksburg Battlefield. We camped at River Town Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

The office has an audio CD to use while doing the driving tour of the Vicksburg Battlefield. It's a very good Military Park. The restored USS Cairo and it's museum are great. Free with park admission.

Walmart (and Murphy fuel) is about 3-4 miles north on Hwy 61. Kroger is also nearby.

I was concerned that this park, which I reserved ahead of time, would be too far from Vicksburg, but it's not. Easy, quick drive to all the places you want to see. The park is large and open with level sites. Only the sites around the perimeter have shade. Restroom is old but clean and adequate. Laundry is fine. Wifi connection is good. We camped at River Town Campground in a Truck Camper.

Basic but adequate. Sites are long and wide but ours was not level - needed blocks under the front wheels. Hookups way at the back. No shade on most sites. It was relatively quiet despite being on highway 61. All in all, not a bad place to stay for a few days. We camped at River Town Campground in a Motorhome.

We arrived after many days of rain had saturated the Southeast. When we got to our assigned space, the power pedestal was standing in water. A call to the office and we were advised to by the staff to find a nearby site that was not in use, call for verification that it was not reserved and move to that site. We found that the campground staff was most responsive to campers' needs and was very helpful. It is an older campground and needs some work but the staff is working on it and there were obvious signs of that. The campground is well-maintained. There are several long term campers. We would return. We camped at River Town Campground in a Fifth Wheel.
