St. Francois is a nice park, not too far from St. Louis but far enough that you are in the country. What we enjoy most about this park is the hiking and the ability to get in the river and soak up the sun. Our dogs love swimming here, but be careful it can be fairly swiftly moving for an older or small dog. The campground was clean and sites were very level. As is typical of MO State parks, the sites were not small but also don't afford much space from neighbors. The pull through sites seem to give you the most space from neighbors but keep in mind that because of the way they sit you will see your neighbors campfire, picnic table area etc. Nice hiking right at the campground with views of the river from the trails. Bathroom and shower house was great. The showers are individual and enter from outside rather than from inside the bathroom area. Clean. One set of pit toilets in the middle of the campground. Potable water within easy walk of campsites. Sewer dump station available. Campground hosts were pleasant and have ice and firewood available. Nice playground area for the kids. The only major downside to us was the lack of space between sites. Our next door neighbors were noisy. If you are accustomed to MO State Parks you will not be disappointed. Due to its close proximity to St. Louis, St. Francois State Park is popular and crowded during the summer months. Many of the electric sites are reservable with a two day minimum stay. Only 63 of the 110 sites have electricity. Water is available in the campground but not at the individual sites and there is a dump station in the campground. There is a playground for the children and a hiking trail begins and ends at the east end of the campground. The Big River which forms the southern boundary of the park offers fishing for bass, catfish, and sunfish. A park naturalist offers nature walks, slide shows, movies and demonstrations on a variety of naturalist activities. Many of the programs are held in the park's outdoor amphitheater located near the campground. We camped at St Francois State Park in a Fifth Wheel.Undo
