This is a great little park, especially for an overnight stay. You have to navigate city streets to get to the park, but we had no difficulties with a 38' motorhome pulling a Jeep. Staying at this park also allows you to bypass a lot of Kansas City Interstate traffic. We had one of the 4 pull thru sites which are on concrete slabs. Our site (#2) was level and large enough for our rig. It was easy to get into and out of the park. There is no cable TV, but we could pick up lots of TV stations with our antenna. Wi-Fi was slow. We would stay here again. We camped at The Campus RV Park in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: June, 2016 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

There is nothing special about this campground. What it does have going for it is location. I believe that this is only park within downtown Independence.

The interior roads are on asphalt and all sites are on cement. All sites are back-ins except for 4 sites. All sites have FHU with the utility boxes containing 15, 30 and 50 amps. The voltage was strong - hovering around 122 volts. The electrical box and water spigot are close to each other and are located in the appropriate location. The sewer is located closer to the back of the site. The sites appear to be fairly level and can accommodate large rigs.

All sites have a picnic table and there is a communal fire pit near the office. There is a laundry room with (3) washers costing $1 and (3) dryers costing $1per load. The laundry room was very clean. There is also a bathroom with (1) private shower and (2) shower heads in another area per gender. Both showers are separated by a curtain. The bathroom was fairly clean but not very appealing.

WiFi was spotty, some days it was strong other days it was weak. Verizon air card and cell phone reception was good. There is some railroad noise.

Follow the directions on the web site - not your GPS. The web site directs you to the campground via truck routes. Many of the local streets are narrow.

We have a 32 foot 5th wheel. We would come back to this campground. We camped at The Campus RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Convenient location to Independence. Most sites are back-in, single wide road, easy entry and exit. No frills. Picnic table needs repair or replacing. There is a train nearby but it did not disturb us. Good base to visit the area.

Would stay there again. We camped at The Campus RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Too many sights to see in just two days. We enjoyed walking in the Historic Independence Square, Courthouse, and having lunch at Clinton's soda fountain on the square.

We visited the Harry S. Truman home, presidential library & museum, the Vaile Mansion, Bingham-Waggoner Estate, the National Frontier Trails Museum, 1859 Jail and Marshal's home, and the 1827 Log Courthouse.

Green, quiet except for an occasional train and makes access to Kansas City easy. Downside was the restrooms, fairly clean but showers left a lot to be desired, like privacy, clean drains, mold smell and the general deterioration of old age. We camped at The Campus RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Be sure you follow their directions which is the truck route or you can be in serious trouble. Mostly long term stays. Have 4 pull thru but not for big rigs. Will not go through the hassle staying there again. better to drive from another park to see Independence. Go to the soda shop and buy the sundae it is wonderful. We camped at The Campus RV Park in a Motorhome.

Stop over for 2 nights. Older campground that needs some TLC. Restrooms and laundry was in need of a cleaning. No cable but plenty of local channels. Most sites had concrete slabs that are close together. Lot of permanent trailers that are an eyesore. We camped at The Campus RV Park in a Motorhome.

This campground is very convenient to visiting any of the President Truman area sights such as the museum-library and family home, plus a number of other interesting places in traditional Independence. The electric and water hookups were good. The back-in site we had was good concrete with a nice picnic table. Restrooms were older but clean, as was the laundry area (wash $1.00/dry $1.00). Free Wifi worked fairly well. The train noise was very noticeable but otherwise the campground was quiet. Follow the website directions as GPS will have you making impossible turns for any RV. We camped at The Campus RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

The area is depressing! The pull thrus were not available and we had a site that had shared hookups. Not convenient and very close to next site! We were told the wifi worked but it never did! I would not stay here again. We camped at The Campus RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Website directions work much better than those given by the GPS. Access is fairly easy and close to downtown Independence. There are 3 drive-through sites, 27 are back-ins, all on concrete pads with convenient utilities, small patios, and picnic tables. Restrooms and showers are clean, laundry with 3 sets of machines, $1 each, wash and dry. Owners friendly and helpful. We would stay here again when in the area. We camped at The Campus RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Level, close back in sites. Friendly owner. Very near Pres. Truman stuff. Very noisy trains nearby. Can't complain because it was very close to where my son lives. We camped at The Campus RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We stay here occasionally and this stop was no different than in the past. The friendly efficient staff member checked us in quickly and assigned our site. The paved site was clean and neat. These sites are big enough for the RV and a picnic table. Utilities are well located for a motorhome. The rate quoted is for Good Sam discount. Good value for urban area. We camped at The Campus RV Park in a Motorhome.

This is the 2nd time we have stayed at this park. The folks are friendly. We store our RV in an underground cave near here and used this as a stage up and stage down park. It works well for that. When we left our RV last fall to return home, we left a day early to get our rig parked before the rain. To our surprise, when we rescheduled this year, they told us we had a day's credit since we had left early. A welcome and unrequested surprise. Not many amenities, but there is lots to do in the area. We will return here again. We camped at The Campus RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Another somewhat off the beaten track campground, but nestled right in the Independence downtown area. All the sites have concrete pads and full hook-ups. The laundry is clean and only costs $1 for the washer and dryer. Use 500 W. Pacific for your GPS address to take you to the entrance. We camped at The Campus RV Park in a Motorhome.

Hooks worked well. Campground was clean. Location is excellent. Wifi was not good, had to use our own hotspot. This campground is in the best location. Walking distance to Independence and driving distance to so many historical attractions. Do not miss the Union Cemetery in Kansas City. We camped at The Campus RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.
