The pull through we stayed in was so level we did not have to unhitch. The pull through sites are close together, but the back-in sites have more room. The staff was very helpful. The park is near railroad tracks as others have mentioned, although we did not hear them inside with the rooftop fan running. The bathrooms and showers are clean but dated. We would definitely stay here again if we are in the area. We camped at The Campus RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Date of Stay: November, 2016 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed for one week in Nov 2016. Our site was easy to back into and quite level. The sewer hookups are all the way at the back of the site so our hoses from the second bathroom barely reached. The nearby trains were the only drawback, but we got used to the noise and during the night we kept the fans running so didn't hear them very much. The guy at the front office was extremely nice and helpful.

Follow the directions on their site to get here, not a GPS. The directions bring you through downtown, but they recommend the widest roads and easiest to maneuver. You can only turn into the park entrance easily if coming from the east. I would stay here again. We camped at The Campus RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Pro: walking distance to almost everything, strong wifi, friendly staff. Sites are close together but not on top of each other. Con: most sites are back ins surrounded by trees, nice enough but not satellite friendly and no cable tv. Train noise consistently. We camped at The Campus RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Walk to historic downtown, several historic homes including Truman house. We drove to the Truman Library, but it's walkable if you're looking to stretch your legs. Good eats in town. Given the location, we would stay here again.

Many long termers here, but quiet and nice. We had a one of four pull-thru's. Air tv was very good, sign said they recently removed cable. Internet was spotty. Baths and showers clean, but dated. Good enough for my use and $29. Will stay here again, for sure! We camped at The Campus RV Park in a Motorhome.

The main downside to this campground is the trains that run every 20-30 minutes all day and all night. The tracks are right next to the campground. Each train blows its whistle 15-20 times as it crosses every street nearby. Wifi is spotty. Site #5 only gets it if you sit in the drivers seat and put your laptop on the dash. Other than that, it is just fine. Laundry only has 3 washers and 3 dryers but they are large and only cost $1. We would probably not stay here again, just because of the trains. We camped at The Campus RV Park in a Motorhome.

We had one of four pull-through spots. The spots were tightly packed in and had a steep incline just beyond the pad itself. The car had to be unhooked and parked in front of the rv. The whole campground seemed an odd hodgepodge of sites, some more generous, some facing in weird directions, some clearly in long term storage. There was lots of grass which could use a good mowing. There are 2 sets of train tracks closeby, but the train whistles weren't as loud as some we've encountered. The location is close to downtown and an easy drive to KC. Be sure to follow the directions on the campground website(the truck route) instead of the GPS. We camped at The Campus RV Park in a Motorhome.

Most of comments have been made. Park is older but reasonable condition. Staff was helpful. Residents (short and long term) were very friendly. But trains, trains, trains.

While I am a confident and experienced Class A coach operator, the large curbs were very pronounced while backing into our site. We camped at The Campus RV Park in a Motorhome.

Interior roads are asphalt. Sites have level concrete pads big enough to hold the RV and their plastic picnic table. Site spacing is good, with plenty of room for slideouts. Restrooms and laundry ($1/load) are clean. Owners are nice and friendly. They have a recycle container for metal paper and plastic (no glass). Very close to downtown Independence, the Frontier Trails Museum (just a short walk), and about 30 min from Kansas City. The only downside is the occasional train crossing the many grade-crossings nearby. We camped at The Campus RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

A real hodge podge of slots. Restrooms and showers needed a good cleaning and to be updated. Space was adequate, but no more. Best part of the place was its location - walking distance to the Truman Library , home and other interesting historical sites. We camped at The Campus RV Park in a Truck Camper.

This is a great little park, especially for an overnight stay. You have to navigate city streets to get to the park, but we had no difficulties with a 38' motorhome pulling a Jeep. Staying at this park also allows you to bypass a lot of Kansas City Interstate traffic. We had one of the 4 pull thru sites which are on concrete slabs. Our site (#2) was level and large enough for our rig. It was easy to get into and out of the park. There is no cable TV, but we could pick up lots of TV stations with our antenna. Wi-Fi was slow. We would stay here again. We camped at The Campus RV Park in a Motorhome.

We stayed here for 2 nights. It is a small park near the sights in Independence. Most all of the sights are back in and on concrete, they all look level as our was. There is great hook ups here. Even though you have to drive the city streets to get here it is easy by following the directions on their web site. We received several TV stations over the air as there is no cable available. Satellite also worked well as our site had a clear view but the low number sites on the south end will probably have tree interference. If you are coming for the historical sites this is a great park to work from. We camped at The Campus RV Park in a Truck Camper.

Date of Stay: June, 2016 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

There is nothing special about this campground. What it does have going for it is location. I believe that this is only park within downtown Independence.

The interior roads are on asphalt and all sites are on cement. All sites are back-ins except for 4 sites. All sites have FHU with the utility boxes containing 15, 30 and 50 amps. The voltage was strong - hovering around 122 volts. The electrical box and water spigot are close to each other and are located in the appropriate location. The sewer is located closer to the back of the site. The sites appear to be fairly level and can accommodate large rigs.

All sites have a picnic table and there is a communal fire pit near the office. There is a laundry room with (3) washers costing $1 and (3) dryers costing $1per load. The laundry room was very clean. There is also a bathroom with (1) private shower and (2) shower heads in another area per gender. Both showers are separated by a curtain. The bathroom was fairly clean but not very appealing.

WiFi was spotty, some days it was strong other days it was weak. Verizon air card and cell phone reception was good. There is some railroad noise.

Follow the directions on the web site - not your GPS. The web site directs you to the campground via truck routes. Many of the local streets are narrow.

We have a 32 foot 5th wheel. We would come back to this campground. We camped at The Campus RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Convenient location to Independence. Most sites are back-in, single wide road, easy entry and exit. No frills. Picnic table needs repair or replacing. There is a train nearby but it did not disturb us. Good base to visit the area.

Would stay there again. We camped at The Campus RV Park in a Motorhome.

Too many sights to see in just two days. We enjoyed walking in the Historic Independence Square, Courthouse, and having lunch at Clinton's soda fountain on the square.

We visited the Harry S. Truman home, presidential library & museum, the Vaile Mansion, Bingham-Waggoner Estate, the National Frontier Trails Museum, 1859 Jail and Marshal's home, and the 1827 Log Courthouse.

Green, quiet except for an occasional train and makes access to Kansas City easy. Downside was the restrooms, fairly clean but showers left a lot to be desired, like privacy, clean drains, mold smell and the general deterioration of old age. We camped at The Campus RV Park in a Travel Trailer.
