Good location. Cement pad was level with grass between sites. Sites were pretty close together. Roads were very easy to maneuver. The grassy area between sites was not kept well; lots of dirt patches. Overall it looked run down. Verizon cell service was fine and we did receive Direct TV satellite reception. We camped at The Campus RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Farmers Market was nice. We really enjoyed the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art and Sculpture garden. Joe's Smokehouse in KC, Kansan was very close and had the best ribs ever! WW I Museum was great and we enjoyed the free tour at Hallmark.

Second time here. Very reasonable for 50 AMP full hook-up. 3 pull thrus so make a reservation if you want one of those! Follow entrance directions on website - GPS will take you to wrong entrance! Wifi very weak to almost non-existent in the PT sites. Over the air TV okay. Paved roads and sites. We camped at The Campus RV Park in a Motorhome.

There are three pull thru's. The rest are all back-ins. Nothing fancy, but really convenient location. If you coming with big rig, call ahead to get the correct directions to come in. We didn't but managed, but would a lot easier if we had for directions. We camped at The Campus RV Park in a Motorhome.

I was pleasantly shocked to find that this CG is close to all the tourist sights in Independence. Trails Museum, Bingham Waggoner Estate, Chicago&Alton RR station and the Conestoga ride were all within walking distance while the downtown area and Truman Library are about 10 minutes away. The park itself is well kept. WiFi is moderately good (when the streamers aren't at work). The park is well kept and sites are slightly off level (it's on a hill). Lots of play area for the kids. Just a good park to do your thing. I'd do it again. We camped at The Campus RV Park in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed 5 nights in June 2018. The rate was $32/night less 10% Good Sam discount plus 6.5% tax. We paid $153.36 total or $30.67 avg/night. Reservations are by phone only. They do not email a confirmation. They do not collect any money upfront but did take a credit card #. We had to change our reservation twice (due to rig issues). The staff was very accommodating which we greatly appreciated. Definitely follow the directions on their website. Additionally they suggest using a different address for GPS purposes as there are multiple entrances to the park. They have a specific entrance they want you to use. Check in was fast and easy. All staff was friendly and pleasant and always working to keep CG nice and clean. Our site was back-in. Due to tree growth behind us, we parked forward in our site but utilities were still reach-able. The interior road is very wide so sticking out a bit was no problem. We had to park our toad in a parking area nearby. The tree behind us was a blackberry tree. We picked some - delicious! However we didn't want them falling on our rig. All utilities worked perfectly. It was hot and we had three A/Cs going with no issues. We had clear sky for DirecTV signal. Verizon cell and mifi were okay but not great although we were able to stream video in the evenings with our mifi. CG wifi did not reach our site. We felt safe inside the RV park even though it's not gated. There is a train close by which blows a whistle. Our site (#29) was about as far from the tracks as possible and the train didn't bother us. However, if your site is 1 - 11, you'll probably hear the train much more than we did. If you are a light sleeper, you might request a site farther away such as 12-30. As we pulled out of our site, staff was heading over to trim the tree. We enjoyed this park. If we returned to the area, we would evaluate all options but would be willing to stay here again. We camped at The Campus RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Visit Truman Presidential Library/Museum and Truman Home. Home tix must be purchased at the Visitors Center located in Independence Square - NOT at the Library and NOT at the home itself. Clinton's has an old-fashioned soda fountain and delicious ice cream. Natl WWI Museum is fabulous. Ticket is good for two days. Hallmark Visitor Center. People love Gates BBQ but we did not - too vinegary and too much sauce. Suggest ordering with sauce on the side so you can control it.

I called the owner of Campus RV Park about Noon June 1st, 2018. He was very accommodating and helpful verbally telling me to come on, I'll hold your space. I stayed 2 nights. I checked in with his daughter and she was very helpful giving me maps and a space right by the office which I asked for. I was hot, tired and exasperated from driving from St. Joe, MO. in the heat. It was quiet, and four blocks from the train crossing that soothes me to sleep since I like trains a few blocks away. Independence, MO is quiet and quaint. Do yourself a favor and stay with these folks at Campus RV Park. We camped at The Campus RV Park in a Motorhome.

The park manager is wonderful. Good knowledge and friendly. The park is excellent access for the historical exploration of Independence Mo. I love Truman and so does Independence. Call for instructions to access for big rigs. The park is very well kept but the pull through sites, though long and hookups accessible are in sunshine and not level. The trains start at 5am and go until the evening. We were OK with that. We camped at The Campus RV Park in a Motorhome.

No fenced dog park but lake is 9 Miles away. Our Labrador swam!!! Don't miss A Little BBQ restaurant. Owner will give directions. Excellent bakery, deli, breakfast and sandwich shop Dave's Deli on Truman. Such wonderful history and highly recommend the Conestoga Wagon Ride, Pioneer Trails.

Very Basic Park but Clean and reasonably priced. Some others have mentioned the train tracks not too far away. The trains are far and few and are really not that bad but ,,,,, if you are a princess and the pea type, don’t stay here. You will here a train once in awhile. Flat concrete pads, Plenty of room to park Electric strong at 124V Water pressure steady at 65Lb Sewer, Water and Electric all well located with short runs Afternoon shade but not so much that it interfered with the Satellite Verizon LTE at 5 bars, was able to use as hot spot just fine Dish worked just fine Fairly tight quarters with a little grass between each spot. Large play fields on the property. I would stay here again in a heart beat. We camped at The Campus RV Park in a Motorhome.

Trains trains trains!! ALL DAY ALL NIGHT! The only reason I rated this park as a 1 is because it is a quarter mile from a major rail line. The horns blow all day and all night. Stayed here five days and did not sleep. The park itself is nice. The staff is friendly and helpful. Juat a BAD location. Too bad. We camped at The Campus RV Park in a Motorhome.

Stayed 3 nights visiting local attractions. Very convenient for that purpose. Older very basic park. Didn't use any of their facilities other than parking pad which was concrete and pretty level but a bit short for a 32 ft. trailer and tow vehicle. Near train track but not a real bother since didn't seem to be heavily traveled. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Would stay again. We camped at The Campus RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

The rating 4 translates to Poor which is a bit harsh, but it is below Average (5) so take the 4 rating as "Below Average." The pull-through site we used was OK but no longer level due to settling. We had a choice between stay back and be a good bit off side-to-side or pull forward and be off front to back. We pulled forward and put one block under one rear wheel and it was OK. We couldn't adjust it much do to not being able to back up with the towed vehicle. The staff was friendly and helpful on the phone and in the office. The bathrooms and showers were dirty and unfortunately were probably beyond true cleaning at this point. The building is very old. In real estate terms, that building would be a tear-down. However, the location is very close to the Truman house and presidential museum - a short drive or 1/2 hour walk if so inclined, and a shorter walk to the Oregon Trail museum. Only three pull-through sites so check availability. Most sites are back-in. We camped at The Campus RV Park in a Motorhome.

Big rig friendly. We stayed 4 nights to enjoy Both KC and Independence sights. You can walk to Independence town square with restaurants, as well local museums and historic sights. No enclosed dog park or kid amenities but there is a huge grass area that's really more fun. There are a couple pull throughs but most sites are long level backing ins off a super wide road making for easy in and out. Do follow their website directions as some roads from the highway are tight, and they lead you the easiest way. We camped at The Campus RV Park in a Motorhome.

Train runs all night blowing wistle. Showers were cheap construction and dirty with no privacy. Some kind of state housing next door led to lots of homeless type visiters passing through and snooping around ( felt unsafe to a degree). 3 or 4 pull through spaces and the rest are back in. Rough area but if you want to stay close to downtown Independence this is close. Very hard to access from major hiways and hard to find entrance. Plus you have to travel down narrow streets with low branches and wires to get there. We camped at The Campus RV Park in a Travel Trailer.
