1 Park near Pittsburg, Missouri
Oct 2015 - $23.00
This is a typical state park with the normal amenities. Electric and water at the site with a centrally located dump station. Nice quiet, clean park. Our pad was asphalt and not very level and had no view of the lake. Antenna TV reception was fair, no cable. WiFi was very weak, probably would be better for those camped closer to the ranger booth. Had picnic table with a roof over it and a fire ring. Did not use public restrooms. Roads are a little tight in places, due to trees. But manageable. Will stay here again if back this way. - Tooljunke

We stayed on the Pittsburg side of the state park in loop 3 during the middle of the week at $17/night for premium electric. Weekend rates jump up to $23 a night for electric premium sites. This campground is not gated like many of the places we have stayed at, but check-in was fast and easy. Loop 3 starts at the top of the hill then dips down to the lake level. There are about 40 electric only sites in loop 3 and many near the lake are close together or have obstructions like trees, slopes, deck railings or short driveways that prevent anything larger than a pop-up or short hybrid from using them. If you have a rig with a slide, awning or anything over 20' long, check the state's website for this campground on each site's restrictions or drive through the loop and check them out yourself if you don't have a reservation. Many of the sites near the lake are close together but we chose a site near the top of the loop with some privacy. The door side of our site had a nice slope right off the step and my kids fell a few times in the loose gravel off of the concrete pad. The slope prevented us from sitting under the awning or using any of the space on the door side of the TT.
The lake level was 12' higher than normal so the swimming beach was closed and bank access to fishing was nearly impossible. The restrooms were clean but there are limited showers and flushing toilets for a CG this size. Lastly, the dump station is a bit crude and did not have a faucet with a threaded end to allow me to use my tank flusher. - Iraqvet05

This park is on a large lake and has big spacious sites and lots of birds. We saw eagles, loons, three kinds of woodpeckers and there were some really lovely sites right over the water. There are big generous boat ramps. The fishing looked great watching the fishermen pulling in fish after fish from our shore. The park roadways are small and narrow with many trees and we barely managed to drive around with our 30ft rig pulled by a pickup. Also there are some VERY steep grades 13%ish that really gave my low gear and four wheel drive a workout so I would not recommend it for big or overloaded rigs. - Judy Birchland
