Beautiful spacious campground. Lots and lots and lots of grass. Pet friendly. $25 per night across the board. Self-serve. We had originally stopped at a different campground. We were not very happy with the host there who was not very friendly. We decided to go a little further and came across this park. No comparison. Doesn't have full hook ups, just power. Does have a dumpsite on site. Several pull through sites. Lots of hiking trails, baseball fields nearby. Great place. We will be back. We camped at Lake Shel-Oole Campground in a Motorhome.

This is a self-service city park campground. You drive in past the ball fields, turn left and you will see a big parking lot camping area followed by some nice pull-thru and back-in sites situated on a tree lined loop. The pull-thru sites are on the right and and are on the side of a big park area in the middle where the restrooms are. The 30 amp electric worked well. No sewer hook-up but there was a dump station. As other reviews noted, water hook-ups are not where you'd expect. We camped at Lake Shel-Oole Campground in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

I stayed here two nights in one of the pull through sites while driving through in a 27 foot motorhome with tow car. The park is an open grassy area with a few trees that is located below a dam. There are pull through and back in sites and a weird area that has electric and water on either side of a gravel road but no defined sites. Maybe tent sites??? Back in sites had grills. No fire rings. Most had picnic tables. Water at the pull through sites is indeed a long way away. I used 75 feet of hose to reach. Road is paved for first 2/3rds of loop and then rest is gravel. Sites are gravel with an adjacent grassy area and appeared relatively level. Numbering of sites was erratic to non-existent. There is little shade but first two pull through sites open up to a grassy area with big cottonwood trees. I had one of these sites and it was lovely. $25 a night for tent campers and RVs regardless of whether your site has or doesn't have water. Convenient dump station. I was there on a weekend. There were four or five campers on Friday night and two tent campers on Saturday night. Self serve. Nobody on site but Sheriff did drive through. Very quiet except for train noise which is in the distance and not bothersome. The trailhead of a paved hiking/interpretive trail is about 1/4 mile up Oilfield Avenue. It is a really nice trail but it is a 5 mile loop and there's no way to get back to the park. There is also a short trail that leads up to the top of the dam. There is fishing in the lake behind the dam. Great stopping point for those driving on to West Glacier. I didn't use the restrooms. Verizon service was excellent. We camped at Lake Shel-Oole Campground in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

We stayed here for one night, on our way to Banff and Jasper, Alberta. Also stayed one night on the return home (to the Midwest). Easy to get to from the expressway, but far enough away that you don't hear any noise. Trains do go thru the area during the night, so if you are a light sleeper, this may be a problem. Very few people were camped here on our stays. It is owned by the city, and grounds are very clean.

Very strange and inconvenient set up though, as not all sites have water hook up (even though everyone pays the same nightly rate, even tenters). Those sites with water are very, very far away from the electric. Whoever designed this campground obviously didn't know a thing about rv-ing. So unless you have a really long extension cord, or an extra hose, you won't be able to use both water and electric.

Interior roads are mostly gravel and dirt, with quite a few pot holes. Some sites are back in, and there are some pull thrus as well. Certainly not a destination campground, but for an overnight stay it works just fine. In addition, even though $25 is very reasonable for full hook up, for a city park I think that's a bit high. Other city parks we've stayed at across the country charge anywhere from $12-$15 for full hook up.

Mostly open and full sun, a few sites do have a little shade.

Cg is on honor system, you put your check or cash in an envelope and drop it in the slot. We camped at Lake Shel-Oole Campground in a Motorhome.

Nice little city campground. Spots are spacious and away from the highway, so it's very quiet. There are both back-in and pull-through sites. AT&T and Verizon worked well for phone and Internet. Most sites are level although there is a bit of a hill outside your door on a couple of the pull-throughs. This is a great place to stop on your way to/from Canada. We would stay here again if in the area. We camped at Lake Shel-Oole Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

This is a pleasant city park located on the north side of town behind the ball field. Sites are gravel with water and electric. Some are pull through. Whoever laid out the park never camped in an RV. The water faucets are located about 100 feet from the electrical boxes. It took two hoses to reach the water. The park is located below a dam breast, but not to worry, there's not much water behind the dam. In late September there were only two campers in the park. Good for an overnight. We would stay here again. We camped at Lake Shel-Oole Campground in a Motorhome.

I'm in agreement with the last reviews of the park for 2014. We were pleased to find many sites available the week after Labor Day. Many sites had water hookup with electric. No sewer, cable or Wi-Fi but Verizon gave a strong signal. There is a fishing lake adjacent to the park. Go to the back of the park where there is a sign and a trail leading to the top of the dam. There are other campground options in Shelby. But this is by far the best for space, price and cleanliness. Other campgrounds are either too close to the Interstate or the rail yards. This park is quiet and peaceful. We will stay here again. We camped at Lake Shel-Oole Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Large sites, lots of grass, electric and water. We stayed on a Saturday night and there were 4 other campers. The sign says there is electric only, but there is water and a dump. Perfect as far as I'm concerned. We camped at Lake Shel-Oole Campground in a Travel Trailer.

This is a city park. The sites are old and could use regrading. Our drive through site had a low tree limb and we had to back out. Caution! Watch the tree branches. The bath and showers are old but clean. There is no security other than an occasional drive through by the park worker to pick up the self pay envelopes. Great place to stop overnight. I rated this campground a 10 because it served our purposes well. We were heading to Glacier the next day and just wanted to get off the highway for one night without unhooking and a hassle of checking in--self payment system. The showers and restrooms were very clean. A police car went through. There are 3 trailer friendly gas stations on the southern exit. We camped at Lake Shel-Oole Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Good park for overnight or longer. We were also getting ready to enter Canada. Sites were fairly level gravel with lots of grass. There are back in and pull through sites. Watch out for many deep potholes in the campground road. Automatic watering system for the grass went off at supper time spraying the picnic table and part of the tow car. Glad we ate inside. We will return to this campground when we are in the area. We camped at Lake Shel-Oole Campground in a Motorhome.

Good place for overnight on way to Canada. No staff. Pay by honor system. Watch for the potholes. Gravel pull-throughs on sides. Police car went by several times so security is good. Water, electric, and dump station. OK for price. We camped at Lake Shel-Oole Campground in a Motorhome.

Nice quiet area below dam. You cannot see the lake at all. Pullover sites from road with tables and hookups for RV sites. Can leave tow vehicles hooked up. Shopping in Shelby before entering Canada will save you tons of money for liquor or food. Directions in Russell Country Montana website are so misleading. They tell you it is .5 mile north of Shelby on I-15. No, it's not. You can exit on 364 right to Business Loop 15, turn right on Business Loop (Oilfield Road) and head southeast on business loop less than a half mile to entrance to campground on east side of street. Coordinates are N 48.521, W 111.855 We camped at Lake Shel-Oole Campground in a Motorhome.

Great park for an overnight or longer. We used it for a location to get ready for entering Canada. Plenty of grass. Sites were gravel, but level. Back ins and pull thru's available. Very quiet while we were there. Even had Wi-Fi from somewhere. Saw the local police make a couple of pass throughs so didn't feel any security issues. Just a mile or so North of downtown. Would definitely stay here over the other parks in town. We camped at Lake Shel-Oole Campground in a Travel Trailer.

This public park was a great bargain when compared with the commercial parks in the area. It has gravel interior roads and pads-some pads are not level. Each site does not have a water hookup, but there are a number of water faucets scattered throughout the park near the campsites which you can connect a hose to in order to fill up your tank or even connect a hose to your RV if the park is not too busy. The Friday night we were there, only about 20% of the RV sites were occupied. You pay at a drop box as others have said. The park lawns around the RV sites were well maintained and a good place for pets to be walked. Overall, a great place to stay over a night or two while in the area. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Lake Shel-Oole Campground in a Fifth Wheel.
