Surprising campground when you pull off at an Interstate rest area. Very spacious, site level. You can camp on either side of I by using the one lane tunnel under the highway. My suggestion, camp on the north side of highway, further away from railroad. Nice trail on northern side goes down near river. Roadways are great for walking dogs. I'm tagging this campground for an overnight when we head out west again next summer. We camped at Lolo National Forest / Quartz Flat Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

Access is from Rest Areas at Mile Post 58 of I-90, either direction. One part of the campground is on the north side of I-90, and the other part is on the south side. Westbound has access to Loops A and B; eastbound has access to loop G. There is a tunnel under I-90 which lets you go between the two parts of the campground, but I was warned by the volunteer attendant that the clearance is tight and so I did not try it. There are many water spigots along the roads and they have threaded connections for a temporary hose connection. Use of the Dump Station is $2.00. There are 6 pullthrus on loop A, plus many deep easy back in sites on loops A, C, and G. All are heavily shaded by huge ponderosa pines which are beautiful and also dampen most of the highway noise. Loop G has a railroad track nearby which occasional train noise. We camped at Lolo National Forest / Quartz Flat Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

This is the second year I have spent Labor Day weekend here because it seems never to be busy. There is a LOT of traffic noise but is otherwise an OK NFS campground with level sites and a nature trail [loop C]. Big rigs can find very long pull-though sites in loop A. We camped at Lolo National Forest / Quartz Flat Campground in a Motorhome.

We stopped at the rest area and was surprised to discover it was also an exit to get to this NF campground. The campground has Loop G on the eastbound side, and loops A & C on the westbound side. Loop G seems pretty open with a train track running directly behind it, and trains honk their horns passing by so I don't recommend staying this side - even the camp host site is empty. There is a 14' tunnel under the interstate that can get you to the other side. Loop A has pull-thru sites for big-rigs and some lovely back-in sites along the river with more foliage for privacy. We picked site A20 and there's no site to the left and spacious room to the next site on the right, and on the back edge of our site is a big drop to see the river down below - very pretty. Each site somes with picnic table and fire pit. Free firewood is provided to use as well! It's dry camping, but for the view and $10/night, we decided to stop here and stayed 2 nights! Vault toilets are available, water spigots, recycle bins, and dump station with potable water, no showers. A few other RVers took the trail down to the river to bathe in their swimsuits in the hot afternoons. I would stay here longer (14 day max) if I didn't have a reservation to get to. I heard this campground is only open during summer months. Lastly, we work online so Verizon LTE data coverage is important, and we get strong signal here. I didn't give it a full 10-stars only because there is road-noise from the interstate and rest stop (trucks running their generators at night), so hopefully your vehicle has some sound protection or you're a heavy sleeper. We kept our windows open at night and noise didn't really bother us. We camped at Lolo National Forest / Quartz Flat Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

About 15 minute-drive west is the little town of Superior, you can get gas, propane, refreshments, groceries, hospital, and you must try the huckleberry-BBQ burger at Durango's! I had it the first night and was so good, DH and I went back to share another one. People in town are SUPER friendly here, falling in love with this area now!

Overall Rating:

This campground is divided. The 'C' loop, where I stayed, is on the opposite side of the freeway from the other loops. You approach it through a tunnel which has adequate clearance [14'] for RVs. The sites are fairly narrow in C loop but are paved and many are level. Not very private, in that the trees provide shade but there is little underbrush. There is a dump station and fresh water fill near the C-loop entrance. Excellent Verizon signal. Lots of traffic noise and some trains. Would stay here again. Price reflects senior pass. We camped at Lolo National Forest / Quartz Flat Campground in a Motorhome.
