We camped 2 nights in campsite #13. At first I thought is was an odd spot for our travel trailer, but it worked out nicely and was very private. We had room for the slide (albeit along the road into the park) but there are only 17 campsites so the traffic was minimal. We had a fire each night, enjoyed the birds and even spotted a moose & calf across the river. We enjoyed the historical/nature trails across the road, went to the L&C Caverns, Madison Buffalo Jump and Norris Hot Springs. We will stay again. AND the vault toilets were especially clean and smelled like cinnamon. Thank you! We camped at Missouri Headwaters State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Stayed for one night is Space # 17. It has to be the best space in the CG!!. Site was level and there were no hookups. AT&T service was OK, Sprint was bad. OTA was good. While there was decent shade, we were able to use our portable solar panel during the day. Generator hours were fine. Easy walk to the River and Confluence. Also a 13 mile RT bike trail from the CG into Three Forks. We camped at Missouri Headwaters State Park in a Motorhome.

After reading other comments about how roomy their sites were, I'm confused! We have a 19' trailer and just fit into our space (#13) which was actually just a wide spot in the road. It was listed as a 65' pull through, so we expected to have plenty of room, but the door to the rig was one step from the picnic table that was one step from the edge of the site where there is a line of high bushes, making it feel very closed in. The fire ring was two steps away but basically unusable since we were parked right next to it. We had reserved for 4 nights, but sadly decided to leave after two nights. There are no services, so the price is high in our opinion. It's a small campground with sites along one circular road, so the road was 2 feet from our rig where everyone has to drive in, then double back to exit. We wouldn't return even though the area is quite pretty and there is plenty of history to explore. There is a good store in Three Forks, and you can get free WIFI at the library. We camped at Missouri Headwaters State Park in a Travel Trailer.

The rate is for a dry-camping, no hook-up site, expensive because of out-of-state status. There is fresh water fill, but no dump station and no showers, only pit toilets. It is only a few miles from interstate, but feels worlds away. It is very quiet and is wonderfully dark at night. In the summer it fills on the weekends, but there are usually sites available during the week. A few of the sites are isolated, but most are fairly open. Some are very close and almost "buddy" sites. There is little shade, so we had no problem getting satellite. Verizon voice and data were very strong. It was very quiet at night. We would stay here again. We camped at Missouri Headwaters State Park in a Motorhome.

The price is a bit steep for dry camping but the park is well maintained and the Montana sky is amazing. Vault toilets but they are by far the cleanest vault toilets I have ever seen. They clean them daily and they actually don't stink. Sites are almost all pull thrus, most with lots of space. Beautiful park. We camped at Missouri Headwaters State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Despite telephone conversations with this Park's Staff and the Reservations Representative we ended in a site that our 36' RV just fit into. The Toad ended up parked so close to our rig's side that we couldn't fit between them to walk. Fire pit was weed choked. Table was in good shape but filthy. Not a shade tree in site and the sun just bakes the area. Campground is nothing more than a gravel and dirt parking lot with most sites being double bump-outs that you share with your neighbor. Despite daily spraying, mosquitoes are horrible! Towards evening the would-be campers coming and going to check for a site stir up the dust to the point that one can really feel for the early explorers who suffered here. Its a shame as the history and beauty of the area screams to be explored and enjoyed. $30/nite is over-kill for conditions like these. Central water, one M/F combined pit toilet, no dump. All the mosquitoes you care to feed, all the dust you can eat, all the sweat you want to pour out. Noise until well after mid-night goes unchecked from late arrivals, chopping wood, drunks and, for some reason, most think that you came here to hear them singing or playing their fiddle, banjo or violin thru the early morning hours. Two Hosts and One Ranger who all go home or into their air-conditioned RVs (they have FHU) at dusk. We camped at Missouri Headwaters State Park in a Motorhome.

Early morning hiking on park trails with beautiful views, wildlife and history. Trip to Virginia City for the renovated 1800's buildings is worth it.

The scenery at this state park could not be prettier. Sites are well spaced and most have plenty of trees for shade. The campground was largely empty for our stay, but would be difficult to maneuver around and possibly noisy if all were full. Camp hosts and state staff were very friendly. Although there are no hookups of any kind, Verizon cell service was excellent. We camped at Missouri Headwaters State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

There are walking paths to the river and confluence, biking paths into town and to the interpretive exhibits and plenty of wildlife viewing opportunities. Nearby Three Forks has a challenging 9-hole golf course and you can drive easily to the exhibits if walking and biking are not your preference.

The sites are mostly large and level and many are quite private. Very scenic setting with well-groomed trails to the rivers/river confluence. My only complaint is the nonresident price of $23, which I feel is high for a no-hookup state park. Five dollars was the entry fee which can be used again in another Montana SP if you happen to be going to one. Good Verizon signal. We camped at Missouri Headwaters State Park in a Motorhome.

We both really loved this spot. There is really only one site that can handle a large rig. We are 38 ft and were in site 15. We had plenty of space and it was a very beautiful private location. All of the sites are lovely but some are very small. The park is very well maintained by the fantastic hosts who have spent many hours improving it. No one told us about generator hours so we ran ours during the day hoping it wouldn’t bother anyone. There are nice walking trails and a paved biking trail that we took into Three Forks for lunch one day. There is so much history in this area I would never tire of returning. I would go back in a heartbeat! We camped at Missouri Headwaters State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

As a non-resident of the state, I would have paid $20, but I happened to mention that I had been at Lewis & Clark Caverns that day so they said to take off the $5 parking fee from there and write a little note on the green envelope. Good deal! The campground is small, but pretty. The pull throughs are more like pull offs and vary in size. But each has a bit of lawn, kept clipped by little brown rabbits, and a picnic table. Pretty close to I90, but quiet just the same. We camped at Missouri Headwaters State Park in a Motorhome.

Park Ranger and camp hosts were friendly and helpful. Being able to walk to the nearby rivers to go fishing...was a nice "plus". We were able to run our generator with ease...although we were "disturbed", one night...about when we were going to turn off our generator even though we were well within the campground's rules for running/using our generator. I probably wouldn't camp here, again...simply because of tight squeeze we had with our 38 ft. fifth wheel and/or our 36 ft. motorhome. We camped at Missouri Headwaters State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

A gem of a campground if you aren't afraid to dry camp for a few days. Fresh Montana water is available along with the beauty of our home state. We're older and residents, so the fee is dirt cheap. We camped here decades ago in our Westfalia, but now the CG is much more developed and a real beauty. We camped at Missouri Headwaters State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

We rate this park as a 4 in terms of facilities. It seemed like a lot of money to pay $23 for no facilities whatsoever. Camping at this park means boondocking. However, we rate this park as an 8 for its trails and scenery. Hence, our overall rating of '6', we averaged those two numbers. There were some really nice walking trails, the bathrooms were clean, the rivers were pretty. But there were no hook-ups and the pull-through sites were basically part of the road. In most cases there wasn't even a little patch of grass or anything separating the pull-through sites from the road. We lucked out by getting spot number 17 down at the end of the road and ended up staying for a few nights. If we had been in one of the other spots we probably would have only stayed for one. We would stay here again if necessary, but not one of our favorites. We camped at Missouri Headwaters State Park in a Motorhome.

Very nice campground. Very friendly campground host. We stayed here in July and it tended to be windy. Also the mosquitoes are a problem. Lewis and Clark camped here 205 years ago and complained about the mosquitoes too. We camped at Missouri Headwaters State Park in a Truck Camper.

Lovely, (no hook-ups) otherwise a 9! Our 38' 3-slide Moho backed in fine, 2-3 other pull-through sites would have worked as well. Need to release your dinghy first as we got stuck on the end loop (just unhooked, no big deal). Vault restroom was spotless. There's moose and bald eagles, no skeeters (could have been with all the marshes). Located only 4mi NE of Three-Forks, MT. $15, 1/2$ GA. There is cell phone service, so we also had internet. At least drive in to the interpretive site and great picnic! We camped at Missouri Headwaters State Park in a Motorhome.
