My 7/14 review is a still fairly accurate description of this park. We again had a FHU site but saved a few bucks since we only require 30 amps. Like most sites, ours was satellite friendly and the Wi-Fi was good enough for our minimal (e-mail and web surfing) needs. The bathroom and laundry facilities are clean and adequate for this park. As others have mentioned, there a lot of extended stay sites. Many of these are used mostly on weekends by boaters and fishermen. As a result, it is less crowded and easier to get a site here during the week. We camped at Townsend / Canyon Ferry Lake KOA in a Motorhome.

We have stayed at this KOA several times on our annual visit to Helena. Each year there seems to be more long time units here and less available sites for over night campers. Was here over the weekend and the CG filled up with mostly fishermen. The sites are level and the utilities are well located. The flamingo grill located on site has good food and the store is well stocked. Will stay here again if need to. We camped at Townsend / Canyon Ferry Lake KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

This park is approx. 1/4 mile from the reservoir. The park is all gravel other than one very small patch of grass. Nice convenience store, books, movies and propane. Laundry room was very dirty. Many rv's appear to be permanent with a lot of items around them. Many weeds and some landscaped areas are full of broken glass. Will not be returning. We camped at Townsend / Canyon Ferry Lake KOA in a Motorhome.

The above rate is for a 30 amp FHU site. They also offer w/e sites and 50 amp. We are staying here for a month. This is a very different type of KOA. It is basically a fishing camp with some folks living here permanently and others who leave their rigs here and come out on week-ends. Everyone is very friendly from the staff to the permanent residents. Our site is large enough for our rv, boat and truck. Pull through sites. Room for tents and cabins for rent.

There is a Flamingo Grill on site and a well stocked convenience store. Also a huge bookstore. The park is a very convenient stop and has a lot of overnight traffic. The lake is just down the road and is busy with boaters and fisherpeople. We will definitely be staying here again. If using the over the air tv antenna only two channels were available. With our booster we received 16 channels. We camped at Townsend / Canyon Ferry Lake KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Definitely need to visit Mountie Moose Bakery in Townsend. They were sooo good. Bob's grocery store is well stocked but expensive. The nearest Walmart is in Helena and is about 25 miles north.

The staff was friendly. No escort to the campsite like most KOA. The site was not level causing the front tires to be off the ground when jacks were down so had to make manual adjustments for leveling to get tires on the ground. The lake was not far. We would stay here again. The grounds were well kept and had lots of geraniums. There are a lot of long term campers, probably reason we could not get site with full hook ups. We camped at Townsend / Canyon Ferry Lake KOA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

We were in the area searching out old mines/ghost towns, rock hounding and geocaching. We had to drive some distances for the mines but the area is nice and lots of history.

A one night stopover. Park has a lot of long term residents which appear to be only here on weekends. As such it was quiet on a Monday night. Pull-throughs were not quite long enough to leave the truck connected. Sites are extra wide, so there was no problem fitting the truck next to the fifth wheel. Would stay again. We camped at Townsend / Canyon Ferry Lake KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

While checking my summer trip notes against my listed reviews on this site, I noticed that this park was missing. We stayed here one weeknight in mid-July. We had a level, gravel, FHU site. Although there is no cable TV, most sites are satellite friendly since there are few trees. We had no problems connecting to or using their Wi-Fi network. There are 23 FHU 30 amp sites, 14 FHU 30/50 amp sites, and 15 W&E (30 amp only) sites. There are also about a dozen tent sites, 5 cabins, and a group tenting area. For a park with this many non-sewer sites the bathroom facilities are inadequate. This park has lots of seasonal customers who use this park as a fish camp to boat/fisd on Ferry Lake. The sites are unusually large so as to accommodate boasts and trailers. There is no pool and I am not certain if you can swim in the nearby lake. The slime that I saw accumulated along the shore would make going into that water questionable. There is some playground equipment. The laundry is in the office/store building. The Flamingo Grill is next door and serves breakfast (weekends only) along with sandwiches and Mexican dishes for lunch and dinner in season. The lake and marina is only a 5-10 minute walk away. The public park with a campground and marina is a little farther. We camped at Townsend / Canyon Ferry Lake KOA in a Motorhome.

The owners of this park were extremely helpful and made us feel welcome. The park is very clean and the women's shower house as just been renovated. They offer putt golf, a used bookstore, a diner, and a beautiful playground. the roads are gravel throughout the park and the sites are fairly level. Though parts of the park have been renovated, some areas, like golf area and some of the sites are a little run down. Additionally, it does have some full time residence. We were taking 287 as a bypass of Butte and needed a one night stay without unhooking. The site was clean and adequate. The staff was friendly. The road right now is completely torn out and was extremely bumpy in places, but we feel we still made better time. We camped at Townsend / Canyon Ferry Lake KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Wow! If I had known about the county campground about 1/4 of a mile further down the road I would not have stayed here. But, we already had our reservations for two nights so we paid the price. The KOA is real average. The electricity was OK we paid more for 50 amp. The staff was friendly. The site is crushed limestone. We would not stay here again. For the price, we were disappointed this park was not closer to the lake or directly on it. We could see down the road another campground right on the lake but didn't drive on to see it's name. We arrived after the office closed and paid the next morning. We camped at Townsend / Canyon Ferry Lake KOA in a Motorhome.

This park was a major disappointment. The KOA directory and website note that the park has permanent boat moorage, which gives the impression the campground is right on the lake. In reality, the lake is at least 1/3 mile away. The campground is sited in a large, open grassy area, adjacent to an RV storage facility. The trees are immature cottonwoods that provide no shade. With 100 degree heat, the lack of shade was a real drawback. Drives and site pads are crushed rock that left a chalky residue on the trailer. Bathrooms are new and very clean, but they are kept locked. A $5.00 deposit is required for each key to the men's and women's room, and we were not informed of this when we checked in, and we had to walk back to the office to get restroom keys. The campground has wireless internet, but the signal is weak and available only near the office. The staff was quite friendly. We called ahead to make sure they had a site available, and they booked us in, but for the preceding day. Luckily, they had a site available when we arrived. As a result, they put us into a full service site, even though we did not require sewer. This was good as the dump station has a sign that indicates a $4.00 charge. There is no pool. On the plus side, the store is the best-stocked KOA store we have encountered. We camped at Townsend / Canyon Ferry Lake KOA in a Travel Trailer.
