Beautiful campground hosted by wonderful people. Extremely helpful. Had issues with our camper and they were more than happy to help. Even though very remotely located, well worth the 6 mile drive down the gravel road back n forth. And the drive is beautiful to boot. Could not ask for a more peaceful location. No parking lot camping here. We camped at Madison Arm Resort & Marina in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed two nights. We made a reservation telling staff we had a 35 ft class A towing a jeep. We were told it was not a problem. The 5.3 mile ride in on the dirt washboard road was a real disappoint. That was followed by giving us a site that would not allow us to open our slides due to trees. We were allowed to pick another site and it worked out for our rv. The site we were on were level and the hookups worked fine. We asked for some info on Yellowstone park and the fires ( we could see smoke around us during our ride in). We were told we could get info at the park. My Verizon cell service usually did not work, neither did their wifi. Making it difficult to get information. It was not quiet the second night as a large camping group came in and were setting up tents at 10-12 pm. We camped at Madison Arm Resort & Marina in a Motorhome.

It was a great RV park to stay at. The only problem was the 5 mile washboard dirt road. The scenery was beautiful and the lake was serene. It was very quiet and relaxing once you got there. We camped at Madison Arm Resort & Marina in a Motorhome.

We loved this place! Yes there is a long and bumpy dirt road to get there, but it is SO worth it!! If you are worried about getting your truck and/or trailer dirty don't bother trying it out. Everyone that works there is awesome! The grounds are on a big lake so you can swim, fish, boat, ski, jet ski, our dogs loved it too. They have a small marina to dock your boat and a fueling station. There's not much as far as TV goes, but we were so tired after half the day in Yellowstone (about 15 mins away) and the other half at the campground. We walked to the office each night and bought an ice cream bar for $1.50 each. Mornings were fairly cool, afternoons were a/c worthy. There are lots of trees which makes some spots harder to get into. A few areas to walk the dogs, but we didn't venture to far out. We camped at Madison Arm Resort & Marina in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

West Yellowstone is expensive!! Remember this is a tourist town. Gas was over $2/gal., groceries cost more here than most places, eating out is more than you may want to spend. We broke Yellowstone up into 3 days. Bottom loop, Top loop, then the lake section. It was easier to manage that way. Also, start early like 6-7am early to beat the crowds. Most people don't start out until 9am-ish and we were almost done by then and had no crowds to deal with.

We were unable to find a campsite inside of Yellowstone without advance reservations and the NPS campgrounds fill early in the morning so we looked for a campground near West Yellowstone. I would have rated this campground higher except for the 6 miles of washboard Forest Service Road that they have no control over. They juggle a map with magnetic pins and a computer program to assign sites and there was a bit of disagreement between the 2 employees at the desk during registration as to where we were supposed to go. The owner quickly addressed the problem. We had initially planned to stay 1 night but extended to 3. While some of the sites are in an odd layout, it all works and is a great place to bring a family. Our site was sunny, but others were well shaded in trees. The forest road ran through an obvious fire that leveled everything but the campground and surrounding trees were spared. The provided map of the campground can be misleading as some sites are physically at the end of what would be a loop road making it a dead end. We camped at Madison Arm Resort & Marina in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

While many may come to visit Yellowstone, this is on a large lake. They offer boat rentals and stock bait in the office for the fishermen. There is a small sandy beach and boat docks as well as a ramp and boat trailer parking area at the campground.

There were some nice features about this park; and yet, some undesirable features as well.

PROS: Wooded area that added to the beauty of the camping experience. A large lake, viewable from many of the campsites. Mountains for a backdrop. Boat rentals onsite.

CONS: 6+/- mile gravel road to/from the highway back top. Most of that ride is turns and twists through the burned out trees area from the '89 fire. The parks service grades the road of wash-boarding approximately every month; according to the park rangers, it had been a month since it was last performed. A bit pricey for water & electric only. Dumping station had a sign that said "Closed" each day we stayed.

The wash-boarding vibration of the tow vehicle and travel trailer to the campground was severe enough, that when we got to our site and navigated the trees, we connected our water only to find that our water lines had worked loose causing a leak inside the trailer. Ouch; needed more tools than I brought! That changed the dynamics of our vacation in our new travel trailer.

The last day we stayed, the parks service graded the road. This resolved the wash-boarding and provided a much smoother ride after check-out.

Overall, I may stay here again, in a pinch and if the road was graded in the past two weeks. But, I would certainly look for alternative options first. Staff was nice.

Before making a reservation, be sure to ask when the last time the road was graded. If it has been 3 to 4 weeks, you may want to reconsider. We camped at Madison Arm Resort & Marina in a Travel Trailer.

Access road is 6 miles of very poor dusty gravel road. The first stop when you leave is the car wash. We had reservations for a pull through site but the site they put us in was very small with no room to park our truck. The trees made it very difficult to back into the space. I was told on the phone and in person that we were lucky to get any spot as it was a cancellation, otherwise they couldn't accommodate us. In reality there were several empty sites each night. We were here 5 days. Staff is excellent, the ambiance is the best. The park is 5.5 miles off the highway which is 3.5 miles from W.Yellowstone but that's a plus. This place is so peaceful. The TV: none without satellite and 3 stations on antenna. The internet worked OK but did go out for an hour or so. If you need a lot of turning space and are concerned with a lot of trees, you might not like this place. That being said, there are 35' to 38' 5th Wheelers here. We are in a pull trailer and I'm going to have to back out of the spot. We picked it as right on the lake. Would definitely stay here again. Many people here for the season. Very high dollar. 5 1/2 miles down a dirt road. Not that nice of a park. Have stayed in $12 places with a better setup. Bring your own wood: they wanted .50 cents a stick, and that is not a typo. You are better off staying in the state park across the road before you go on the dirt road. We won't stay here again: too high dollar and too far down a poor dirt road. The spots were tight to get into. There is a 5 mile dirt road to just get there. There are bugs everywhere. There is nice staff and a nice lake. The fishing is good. We camped at Madison Arm Resort & Marina in a Travel Trailer.

The owners are older and the sweetest people ever, on the fly they were able to accommodate us for a full hookup site. Yes: the 5-mile gravel road is a bit bumpy but we didn't care as we saw wild buffalo along the road just outside the campground. I'm a boater from the east coast: this campground has a beautiful boat dock with fuel. We will definitely stay again and will request a lake view. The biggest drawback is the 5 mile dirt road into the park. Allow at least 15 minutes for the trip. We stayed in a 24 ft travel trailer and camped right behind the office so I can't comment on how easy it would be to bring a larger trailer into the campground. The staff was exceptionally helpful and nice. All sites have firepits, but bring your own wood or buy some in town. There are numerous sites set up for long term residents (some stay all summer) and they are friendly and willing to give you advice on hot fishing spots. The lake has lots of large (2-4 lb) rainbow and brown trout. We camped at Madison Arm Resort & Marina in a Travel Trailer.

Based on only a couple of reviews we stayed here for a week in July 2008. NEVER AGAIN! First of all the gravel road is 6 miles of the worst road we have ever been on. Most of the way we could only travel at 5 MPH. Seemed to take for ever to go that 6 miles. It's not normal gravel, it's some kind of small black stones. Everything inside the trailer was thrown around when we arrived. When we finally arrived we had to maneuver between the office building and a post (and trees) to get into the campground. We had reserved a large lot because we have a 33 foot Jayco Trailer. I couldn't believe how small their lots are. Yes, there's plenty of trees. So many in fact that I defy anyone to drive through this campground without scraping against the limbs. There is no turn around area. You just have to go back & forth until you finally can get the angle you need. Then there is the problem of finding a place to park your tow vehicle. When leaving, we had to jockey around just to get out of the site. All their roads are dirt (as are the sites). When it rains it is a mud hole. They sell firewood. Two pieces for a dollar. Don't waste your money because the mosquitoes will eat you alive here. They start before dusk and come out in swarms. There are no lights at night. There are utility poles with street lights on them, but they don't turn them on. It is pitch black here at night. Leave your trailer lights on if you plan on returning at night. Rate was $38.25 a night for full hook ups. Better have a 25 foot drain hose because this campground is old and all connections are at the rear of the sites. Campers here were very friendly. There were a lot of seasonal campers, though for the life of me I don't know why anyone would want to drive the long roads to get here daily. They have free Wi-Fi (though it's very slow) and you can get four TV stations. They should be required to remove the name "RESORT" from their ads. This is no resort, just an old tired campground. Nothing much for kids to do. Laundry consists of two washers and two dryers. Better get there early!! We will stay at the KOA or at the RV Park in town next time. We are retired and have camped from Nova Scotia to Texas, and this has got to be the poorest experience we've had. Happy trails. We camped at Madison Arm Resort & Marina in a Travel Trailer.
