This was our first experience with a Forest Service Campground. Campground hosts were visible and seen working often so the sites were well maintained. There is plenty of room between the sites to afford some privacy. The road coming off the highway is paved but not well maintained...too many bumps and potholes. The two miles into the campground is gravel with many potholes and bumps. Despite the road conditions, we would stay there again. We camped at Rainbow Point Campground (USFS) in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Only 5 miles from West Yellowstone if you need groceries, fuel, or just to sightsee. We did a day trip to Mammoth Hot Springs. Hebgen Lake is in easy walking distance for fishing or there is a boat ramp. Quake Lake should be visited en route if coming from Ennis or make it a day trip if you come from the south.

We selected a site with no hook ups. Loop B was closed, that left 3 other loops. Some sites have electric available and there is a water faucet to fill up with as you pull in. Off the highway 3 mi pavement plus 2 mile gravel road, no problem. Total 10 mi to west entrance of Yellowstone. Camp hosts were efficient and pleasant. Cell service spotty but near the lake shore got a decent signal. We camped at Rainbow Point Campground (USFS) in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Yellowstone park was disappointing to me. Unique sights to see but so massive and crowded. We drove the south loop first day (Old Faithful) and north loop the second day. Total of approximately 150 mi each day. Scrambling from one parking spot to next and hoping to find a space, became tiring. Good to see Yellowstone but once is enough for me.

We stayed here for 5 nights on a Yellowstone trip. The sites were spacious and mostly private. The roads where wide and plenty of space to back in. They have these cement pillars all over which are a pain but did not cause any issues. But I could see how they easily could. The lake is nice but in the evening the bugs were brutal. There is a long gravel road that is a bit bumpy, but other then that I was happy with the campground. We stopped at Fishing Bridge and Bakers Hole and felt this was the nicest of the three. Fishing Bridge was terrible. We camped at Rainbow Point Campground (USFS) in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

If visiting all of Yellowstone, think about camping in other locations when exploring further reaches of the park. West Yellowstone is a great place to stay for that side of the park but its a long haul for the north loop.

There are 4 loops, with Loop C having the electric sites (doesn't tell you this on the site map). These are reservable sites so max stay is 2 nights if the site is available. I was able to talk with the camp host and she suggested one I could stay in with my 29-foot 5th wheel. We only ended up staying 1 night because the Verizon service was dismal. I could get 30% signal strength of 3G by the lake, but in the site I couldn't keep a steady signal and prevented me from working online. I ended up moving to Baker's Hole for the rest of my stay due to this alone. Otherwise, we had a great site and would not have mind to stay here longer. However, the drive to this campground does take an additional 10 minutes to reach than Baker's Hole. None of the sites have a view of the lake, you'll have to walk to see it. Sites are spaced apart okay with trees between, so it does feel decently private. Dump/potable water station is available next to the fee station. Concrete poles lining the sides of the road made it a little difficult for us to back in our rig, ended up scratching our truck on one. We camped at Rainbow Point Campground (USFS) in a Fifth Wheel.

The location itself is beautiful.....camping in the trees by a lake. However, the site we had is supposed to be for a 38 foot rig. We have a 34 foot rig and found it was hard to get into. The road is not wide and the turning radius made almost impossible with a cement pylon blocking our truck from turning. We were supposed to stay a week, however, the roads and sites are NOT graveled and when the rains came we were underwater. Our 4 wheel drive with all traction tires had trouble getting through the slimy mud. Our site where we parked the pickup was under water and we couldn't leave one of the days. The fire pit flooded!!!! The road in (hwy 191) was smooth and nice, then you turn off onto a BUMPY paved road, and then 2 miles on DIRT (no gravel). After 6 nights of this we moved where they let us wash our rig --- we had MUD everywhere, including an inch or two on the running boards. No, we would not stay here again. We camped at Rainbow Point Campground (USFS) in a Fifth Wheel.

Plenty of room between sites and well kept campground. Easy in/out with 40 ft. motor home. Beautiful lake. If the road in and the mosquitos were addressed I would have given the camp ground a 10. On our visit the road in was a wash board and my red car was brown from the dust. We camped at Rainbow Point Campground (USFS) in a Motorhome.

This is a National Forest Campground, so there is plenty of shade on every site. There is also plenty of room between the sites. The other big plus is the proximity to the west entrance to Yellowstone National Park. The only negative is the road into the campground and the roads in the camping loops. They are very rough. It rained the day we arrived and we couldn’t see all the giant potholes hidden in the pools of water on the road. It got better as the pools dried up, but there isn’t much shade in the camping loops, so it took a few days. That’s the only negative and we’d stay here again. Our rate reflects our Senior Pass discount. We camped at Rainbow Point Campground (USFS) in a Fifth Wheel.

We've stayed at Rainbow Point before. It is nice to have the electricity in a forest campground. The camp hosts are attentive and friendly and it is very quiet. Not to far from West Yellowstone and right on Hebgen Lake. We camped at Rainbow Point Campground (USFS) in a Travel Trailer.

An excellent "old style" campground, with few amenities given nowadays. A rather refreshing change from city life "campsites". No WiFi, no cable, no manicured lawns, no clubhouses, phone reception was marginal, no TV (although you may get satellite there. ) Awesome!! Just as I remembered camping as a young'un. But then, I enjoy "boondocking". Many sites are reservable, and in Loop "C" a few do have electrical connections. There are 4 loops, providing 86 spots. Several water faucets are located throughout each of the loops. The toilets are "pit toilets" and were cleaned each morning, and checked by the camp hosts throughout the day. There is no dump site for the campgrounds, so be prepared to "boondock" it. There are stations in West Yellowstone available though. Every campsite we saw was excellent. Each site was clean and well cared for. The camp hosts were warm & friendly, and became one of the family very quickly. A great plus is how close the campground is to Hebgen Lake. We carried our kayaks and rafts from our site several times. There is a dock, and a boat ramp located just before you get to Loop "A". We saw several other families there picnicking and swimming. Fishing was decent. too. We camped at Rainbow Point Campground (USFS) in a Fifth Wheel.

Senior pass discount rate. Electric only, no water, no sewer, a LITTLE snug getting our 40 ft motorhome (4 slides) into a spot, but not impossible. The road coming into the park was in terrible shape, (maintained by the county?). We had to drive about five miles an hour for several miles before reaching the campground, the road was such a washboard. They don't grade it enough, I guess. Great campground for visiting Yellowstone. Lots of trees, beautiful shaded sites. We loved and would definitely stay here again. We camped at Rainbow Point Campground (USFS) in a Motorhome.

Lovely campground. The family stays up here yearly. Camp host was great this year. However, this is the second year in a row that a thief has come into the campground and stole fishing reels, fishing gear and generators. Both years around Fathers Day. So if you stay, plan on locking up everything tightly. The restrooms were the best I have seen them in over 10 years. We camped at Rainbow Point Campground (USFS) in a Fifth Wheel.

Rate is for electric hook up in Loop C with Golden Age Pass. we were in site C8 and had a view through the trees for a satellite TV signal. No dump station or water hook up so fill your fresh water tank before you arrive. Close to West Yellowstone and the middle of the park attractions. Nice forest service campground. We camped at Rainbow Point Campground (USFS) in a Fifth Wheel.

Once you finally get here, you will enjoy the solitude, the beautiful lake, the hiking, the woods, the night air. The park is situated at the end of several miles of gravel roads. They are well maintained, but still rough never-the-less. Choose your site carefully, not all are the same length. There are no pull-throughs. While each site does not have water (or sewer), it is not far to fill containers or refill your rig if necessary. This is a less expensive alternative to the much higher priced campgrounds in West Yellowstone, and nearly as convenient for day trips into Yellowstone National Park. We camped at Rainbow Point Campground (USFS) in a Fifth Wheel.

We have the senior pass, so our cost per night was less. Amazingly, we were able to get DirecTV and Verizon broadband wireless internet from our site. We could have stayed here for a long time, it was that nice. The road in turns into a real dusty rub board gravel for about 3 miles. We were able to fill our tank with great well water. Our rig is 40 feet long and fit nicely into our back-in site. We heard a pack of wolves howling our first night! Not far from the west gate to Yellowstone. Our 50 amp service was spot on. It was in the high 30s at night and in the mid to high 70s in the day time so you will need to run both air conditioner and heater while here. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Rainbow Point Campground (USFS) in a Motorhome.

This is your basic forest campground. Dirt sites and roads in the pine trees with fire pit and table at each site. Loop “C” has electric hook-ups. Water and dump station is available at the check-in board at entrance to CG. Easy walk to Lake Hebgen. The 2 mile dirt road into campground is very rough and dusty. Close location for exploring Yellowstone National Park and Earthquake Lake. Very friendly host from Loop “B” while host from Loop "C" who was camped next to us never spoke to us and let his dog run loose and bark at fellow campers. We camped at Rainbow Point Campground (USFS) in a Motorhome.
