Let's start by saying it was peak summer season in Yellowstone and our trip was pretty last minute. After calling several other places that were full, this one had openings. Overpriced for what you get, they can command such prices this time of year. An older park, right on the edge of town, it is scruffy at best. The sites are very small & very close together. Our 26 foot motor home was given a 28 foot back in space and we still had to move it forward (after hooking up) when the site behind us needed to accommodate someone with a rear slide. No pool, no playground, no camp store, this price reflected full hookup & nothing else. The laundry room was adequate. Perhaps the best features were the shade trees and proximity to the west gate of Yellowstone. Evening entertainment consisted of watching big rigs arrive and try to get into their sites with taking out their neighbor's rigs or cars. We won't be back. We camped at Wagon Wheel Campground & Cabins in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $75.00
Overall Rating:

This is an in-town RV camp, occupying about a block, ¼ mile from downtown West Yellowstone. That means a terrific location, within walking to stores, shops, restaurants. And it's about a mile to the Yellowstone West entrance. The all gravel sites are level, with good utilities and CATV. Most have trees, all have picnic tables, but there is no grass anywhere. The Showerhouse is clean, but a bit cramped. Good laundry, and a small game room. The location is terrific for Yellowstone visitors as the campground is a few miles from the west entrance to the park. The one issue with this camp comes from its in-town location, as the sites are very small and tight together. That and the numerous trees means getting into some of the back-ins requires some skill, and you may have to park your truck or toad on the street. The pull-thrus are pretty easy though. Site fees are high, as expected due to its location. We camped at Wagon Wheel Campground & Cabins in a Travel Trailer.

Buffalo Bar (decent bar with average food) and Ernie's (bakery/deli) are both next block over. Make sure you see the history of West Yellowstone in the old train depot downtown. Downtown has numerous restaurants within 3-4 blocks.

Good stay for visiting the park. Interior roads are tight, and it's worth plotting your route before pulling away from the office. Recommend making the block and entering the alley from the west to approach pull-through 1 or 2. Sites are tightly packed and utilities aren't marked. Our neighbor knocked us offline because they thought our power box was theirs. Conversely, I used two sewers (site 1 has 2 so I thought mine did also), only to find out one was probably the neighbor's. Without them being labeled you could easily make a case for either one or both being for site 2. Owners were super-friendly. Our kids liked the small game room. Very quiet at night. We were able to connect to the WiFi but it was very slow. We stuck with our Verizon signal which also wasn't the best here. We camped at Wagon Wheel Campground & Cabins in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Easy access to Yellowstone. W Yellowstone roads are very wide, almost enough to u-turn with a tow vehicle. Watch out for street parkers blocking your exit. We left on a Sunday and people who attend the church across the street park in front of the RV sites. There's a city park with a small playground a few blocks away.

Wonderful park right in town but feels like you are out of town. The manager couldn't have been more friendly or accommodating. The restrooms were very clean and convenient to all sites. We were 3 adults camping so had an upcharge for the additional person. We would stay here again! We camped at Wagon Wheel Campground & Cabins in a Travel Trailer.

The camp host, is a wealth of information about West Yellowstone, things to do, places to go and where to eat!! This is one of the best RV parks in West Yellowstone; you are parked among pine trees. Other parks are crowded with no shade. The bath/showers were always clean as well as the laundry area, with the cheapest wash/dry we experienced. We were in a pull-thru site near the street and it was always quiet at night. The only negative is the cost of cabins in campground where family members stayed. While nice, nearby motels may have been cheaper. We camped at Wagon Wheel Campground & Cabins in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Take the time to drive out to Earthquake Lake and tour the visitor center. On the way, arrive early and have breakfast at the Campfire Lodge Resort (or go trout fishing there also). Continue on out to Virginia City to tour a restored gold mining town. We also found it best to fuel up at the end of day when returning to camp and not in a.m. -- too many others doing the same thing.

We stayed for 2 nights. Sites are fully serviced, a little tight but enough room for awning and slide out. Sites are level with concrete patios and picnic table. Awesome games room with pool tables and video games . Great if you have young kids. Laundry room and showers were also available, they were dated but very clean. Owner was very friendly and seems to remember everyone's name. Close to shops and just outside Yellowstone national park. We camped at Wagon Wheel Campground & Cabins in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

When visiting Yellowstone National Park be sure to purchase your pass before hand or go early, as lines at the gate are long and time consuming. Recommended visits in the park are, the paint pots, fire hole falls and Hayden valley for wildlife viewing. We saw many bison and elk. Good idea to bring a lunch and drinks, as you will most likely spend an entire day exploring the many beautiful sites of Yellowstone. There are places to get food but we love to stop along beaches to eat.

Host/owner was exceptionally helpful and accommodating. He took great pride in his facility. He provided a wealth of information about his area; one would think he was the Chamber of Commerce. Bath house was very clean. Laundry was good. Location was convenient to stores and Yellowstone West gate entrance. We stayed in a micro tow behind. Gravel site shared with adjoining rental cabins. We camped at Wagon Wheel Campground & Cabins in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Yellowstone NP - WOW!!! West gate was about 20 minute ride from Gate to Yellowstone features. We initially thought this would be a draw back, but it really was a benefit. When we drove into Park in early morning and out at sunset, the wildlife were more active then and provided numerous opportunities for viewing active wildlife. September is a great time to visit Yellowstone as the crowds are significantly reduced, but nights were cold!

This is an older small campground lovingly maintained by the owner. He takes pride in his campground and keeps the restrooms and laundry clean. The sites could be tight for larger rigs but we had no problem with our skinny rig. It's in town but on a quiet side street. The owner alone makes it worth the stay. Cash only. We camped at Wagon Wheel Campground & Cabins in a Motorhome.

A nice little park, gravel sites separated by planted trees, well maintained off the main drags in West Yellowstone. The staff was very helpful and courteous. The showers were well maintained and clean. The laundry was a great value. They only take checks or cash but that was a minor frustration. The park is convenient to the Yellowstone West Entrance and within walking distance to many downtown businesses. We would stay here again. Rate reflects Good Sam discount plus taxes. We camped at Wagon Wheel Campground & Cabins in a Truck Camper.

The owner is a very nice and helpful person. Not only did he check us in, he then came out to our site to make sure we pulled in without a problem. We were going to originally stay at Yellowstone Grizzly (which despite its high ratings is just another large, commercial type, private park), but they were full. We were directed to Wagon Wheel, and glad for it! This is a very small campground, but it's been in the owner's family for 30 years and he runs it like he really cares. The bathrooms and showers are very clean and well maintained.

You are only about three blocks from town, and could walk to most of the stores if you wanted to. You're less than a mile from Yellowstone and the drive to Old Faithful was about 45 minutes (and well worth the visit). I usually avoid the Yellowstone type attractions in favor of the off the beaten path, lesser known parks, but go see it - it's amazingly beautiful. Wagon Wheel is a nice little campground, close to the conveniences of town. There are several gas stations within a mile, lots of places to eat (we got Chinese take-out for some reason), and very close proximity to Yellowstone National Park. The owner is such a nice guy that you would be hard pressed to find anyone that is more friendly and helpful - and we've stayed at many, many parks and campgrounds. We camped at Wagon Wheel Campground & Cabins in a Travel Trailer.

Would give it a 10 except sites are very narrow for RVs with slides. We had to dodge tree branches to get out of our RV door. The manager is very, very helpful and informative and keeps the campground extremely clean. About a 3 block walk to the downtown shops and grocery. Wi-Fi is slow, but certainly better than no Wi-Fi. Would definitely stay here again. We camped at Wagon Wheel Campground & Cabins in a Motorhome.

This park is located in West Yellowstone. You can walk from the campground to all locations in West Yellowstone. It has easy access to Yellowstone NP. The manager is a great tour guide. He offers suggestions on what to see both in the park and in the area. Pay attention or you will miss some great suggestions. He is always working around the park; not in the way, just keeping it clean and secure. The bathrooms are some of the cleanest we've seen. You need a key to use them which makes them more secure. The trees prevented use of our direct TV, but there was cable. Not the best picture but OK. The wifi didn't work well at our site. We had to go to the rec room to use it. Verizon service is good. Will definitely return. We camped at Wagon Wheel Campground & Cabins in a Motorhome.

This is a quiet, clean, well-maintained older campground in the town of West Yellowstone. Everything is within walking distance in town and it is a great base camp for visiting Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, and Southeast Idaho. While the campsites are not the largest or facilities not the newest, anything the owner can do to make your stay better he will try. Plenty of local information provided by the owner and plenty of recommendations (eat where the locals eat). Thanks for making us feel "at home." This RV park is in the town of West Yellowstone which is very convenient to see the park and walk to everything in town. The manager was very friendly and provided a lot of good information about town and surrounding areas. Wi-Fi and cable TV are free and worked fine. Restrooms & showers are clean. Laundry is very inexpensive and worked well. We were here for 7 nights and would stay here again. We camped at Wagon Wheel Campground & Cabins in a Motorhome.

While within the town proper, and there was limited space between sites, the trees provided a sense of privacy. The park is meticulously maintained by the owner and staff. The washrooms are the cleanest we have ever enjoyed in an RV park! The town of West Yellowstone and this RV park in particular make this a great base from which to enjoy Yellowstone National Park and this area of Montana.
