Overall Rating:

Convenient location for W Yellowstone and the surrounding area, out of the town, but just a few minutes away. Good views of the valley and surrounding mountains. Busy with lots of departures and arrivals, dirt roads with a fair amount of dust. Huge mix-up between the office and the other staff over our site assignment, we were led to a pull through site with low limbed trees blocking the pull through. When I pointed out the error in assignments I was told this was all they had ... a clear "take it or leave it" attitude. The site was very uneven, requiring some careful positioning. When I expressed concern about getting my coach leveled without jamming the slides, the response was further belittlement! The services were reasonable, good access to the sky for my TV satellite and an acceptable wi-fi signal. But, this comes at a price, the rate is very high for what the campground is. The discounted $81 is an average of weekend and weekday rates we were charged. We camped at Yellowstone Park / Mountainside KOA in a Motorhome.

This park just reconfirmed why I dislike KOAs. Made reservations over 6 months in advance for 9 day stay and our premium priced lot was right next to the bath house? No one in the office had the authority to move us. This option was offered a day or two in but who wants to move once you are settled? Constantly had people cutting thru our lot to get to the bathhouse. My dogs are barking... guess why? Even the workers in their golf carts. Spacing is okay. Site was level and utilities did work well. This park offers nothing to do other than going into Yellowstone. KOA will never get money from me again after this trip. Just not worth what they charge. We camped at Yellowstone Park / Mountainside KOA in a Motorhome.

Park was nice. You pay the price in Yellowstone. This park is a few miles out of town. You can have a campfire because you are out of city limits. Had some improvements going on. Lots of construction noise. Will be better when it is completed. I like that they guide you in. I have never been in a KOA that charges for coffee. Staff was not the friendliest. I would stay here again. We camped at Yellowstone Park / Mountainside KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Pizza is sold in the office. I never bought one. But saw a lot of guests walking back to campsite carrying one. Gift shop is nice.

Great location although there is another KOA one mile east that is much better. We have stayed at both. We felt our site location was second class. We worked with the TV's for two days and was unable to program them. After multiple discussions with the staff, who could not figure out why we were having problems, the manager finally came out to address our issue. He informed us that if we were in a 30A site, there was no cable TV provided. We pointed out that the website and brochure showed cable TV and there was a connection in the pedestal. He tried to tell us that was standard procedure with KOA and they were not obligated to tell us that cable was not provided at 30A sites. We have stayed at 30 to 40 KOA sites over the years and never EVER experienced this before. Also this is the most expensive campground we have stayed at for $72 a night, that was with the KOA discount and no cable TV, "horrible value". We love Yellowstone but if this is what has happened to the commercialization of the area, we do not plan to ever return. We camped at Yellowstone Park / Mountainside KOA in a Travel Trailer.

I love this KOA, and if I ever return to Yellowstone, this is where I will stay. The views and scenery cannot be beat with mountains surrounding you and quiet peaceful country side. It was a great place to return to after a long day of hiking and touring Yellowstone. The atmosphere is that for adults, not children, with peace and quiet. So no peddle cars, screaming kids, or a pack of 10-year-olds on bicycles. The restrooms, shower rooms, and laundry were kept immaculately clean. The store stayed opened until 10pm each night. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. They also provide 24 hour security (the security is equipped with bear spray, very important in this area since there are a lot of grizzly bears). They have a pizza parlor that is opened until 9pm each night too. If you want breakfast or a burger, you can go to the other KOA a mile down the road and get one there (that is more child friendly RV park with peddle cars and packs of 10-year-olds on bicycles). The water pressure was excellent. It also has an excellent dog park with grass. They had good cable TV so we could see the Olympics each night; however, the WiFi is a bit weak.

Most of the interior roads are gravel, and most pads are gravel or dirt. I was concerned about a dirt pad at first, but when I pulled onto the pad I found it was very level. The sewage connection did sit on the high side of the pad, but it was still functional (slightly lower then the RV). There is a guy that makes chainsaw statues on site which adds some noise during the day. Also there is some noise from "Jake" brakes at night since the park is at the bottom of a 7% grade (trucks are required by Montana to use "Compression Brakes" when coming down that mountain).

It is a new park that they are working onto improve. Most of the building are new. I was told by staff that they are hoping to have most of the pad fully graveled by next year.

We truly enjoyed our time here!!! We camped at Yellowstone Park / Mountainside KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Book early since this is a popular destination. The store does sell bear spray, which is a must if you are going to do any hiking or outdoor adventures in the area. The pizza parlor makes excellent food.

To see wildlife, leave early in the morning and go to Madison Valley, Hayden Valley, or Lamar Valley.

Be aware your nearest Walmart is over 60 miles away, so pack accordingly. There are 2 supermarkets in town.

There are bus tours of Yellowstone that come to the KOA to pick you up.

The park is located conveniently to West Yellowstone. The shower setup was amazing! We were in a corner site and it was quite dusty when vehicles drove by. We would stay here again but would request a different site. We camped at Yellowstone Park / Mountainside KOA in a Travel Trailer.

This park was 8 miles from the west entrance to Yellowstone. The park was ok since we were here to see the NP. It, however, was very expensive at $76/day. Park employees were friendly and helpful. The roads in the park were gravel and the sites were dirt and grass. We have a 33 ft MH and the spot was barely long enough for us and our Scion XB. The utilities were good. WiFi like most places was at best, spotty.

The NP was magnificent. If you are visiting in the summer get there EARLY. The crowds can be huge. If you have a pass of some kind, stay to the right entering the park. Much faster pass only line.

While we were there we had a water pump that had a bad check valve and was overflowing our onboard tank. The park gave us a mobile tech's card. Lou Mavros came to the rig on Sunday of 4th of July weekend to fix our issue. Great guy, great tech and terrific price. If you are in the area and need help call Lou. We camped at Yellowstone Park / Mountainside KOA in a Motorhome.

Was Lionsgate campground, now converting to KOA standards and is a work-in-process. Excellent staff support. FHU, gravel, somewhat level, roomy sites, long enough for big rigs. Token trees, sparse landscaping (but remember, being re-worked). About 6 miles from Yellowstone National Park entrance. Well stocked store, small eatery part of office; we didn't try any of the food. Playground. No pool or spa. We camped at Yellowstone Park / Mountainside KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Yellowstone National Park (why else would you go there?). Lots of local eateries. Fuel prices slightly higher but to be expected as a tourist town. Try Pete's Pizza, good prices, excellent pizza. Try the Old Faithful Ale by the Grand Teton Brewing Company.

The KOA registration process is anything but user friendly, but overall the stay was ok, not wow. Wifi is terrible, cell phone coverage is minimal. I would probably check out another campground if I came back. We camped at Yellowstone Park / Mountainside KOA in a Motorhome.

Okay park with nice snack bar/pizza cafe. Campground was about 7 miles outside of West Yellowstone, which is a typical overcrowded tourist town full of tee shirts and souvineers. Nice to be away from all the traffic and activity. Wi-Fi was poor, as was cell service. Rate was a weekly full service rate. We camped at Yellowstone Park / Mountainside KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Boulders were a concern as we were turning into our aisle. It was very tight. Campground situated on a sloping area with grassy, bumpy sites, and gravel roads. Our site was near level. No pool; but playground and games for kids. A creek along the rear of the park. Pizza restaurant on site with good quality and quantity of food. Cable (27 channels) only available at deluxe sites. No antenna TV. We could have used the weather channel in Wyoming. The bathrooms near us were old. Wi-Fi unavailable in site we were assigned. We camped at Yellowstone Park / Mountainside KOA in a Fifth Wheel.
