We stayed here for five days before moving over to the Grand Tetons National Park. We used this as the base for exploring all of Yellowstone National Park and a day trip up to Big Sky Montana. We checked out most of the competition in the area... and we think this is the best choice there is for visiting Yellowstone from the West Gate. The park was spotless, registration with a confirmed reservation was smooth and efficient. Everyone was friendly and helpful. We were guided to our spot by a golf cart and the access was easy, the spot wide and beautiful, and the spots are pretty level and nicely spaced apart where we were. We had a wonderful view as well. Our spot had no cable TV and the Wi-fi didn't work very well... but the natural beauty made up for it. We had friends that stayed in a park right in town... so we were 10 minutes further from YNP, but our experience was far superior. In the Town (10 minutes away) there are a multitude of choices for good eats, shopping, museums.... this is a great place for a base to visit the entire area. We ran around every day... so did not use any of the facilities, pool etc. The camp store is very well provisioned and well merchandised. We had plenty of room with our toad connected. Sewer placement was at both ends of site. Electrical was great voltage, 60 Hz and no errors or faults. The park is beautifully landscaped, well maintained, and spotless. We camped at Yellowstone Park / West Gate KOA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Big Sky Montana was a fun day trip. We did the North loop of YNP one day. We did the South loop on another day. On a third day we focused on the Lodge at the lake and additional loop roads off of the South Loop. Leave early for the Park. We came 9/21-9/26 2018. Saturday the 22nd was the only free day of the year and traffic was insane. The Slippery Otter Pub in West Yellowstone is a great watering hole with good food.

Beautiful, wide, shaded pull-through in a busy big park about 10 minutes from the bustle of West Yellowstone and the west entrance to the national park. We spent 5 nights here, using it as our base for exploring the astounding area. Check-in was seamless and we were escorted to our w/s/e campsite, which also boasted a picnic table and fire pit. The site was gravel and we had to use leveling boards. Cable TV was only available on "deluxe" sites, despite the hefty nightly fee for the one we were in. There were some low-hanging branches over the camp site but we managed to avoid them. We were unable to connect to the WiFi. Verizon worked fine for voice and data. Did not use lovely indoor pool or nice looking laundry. Would definitely stay here again on our next trip to the area. We camped at Yellowstone Park / West Gate KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Had a pull through site. It was spacious enough with trees. Unfortunately what they don't tell you is they are built on a hillside. This made it challenging to pull through with our fifth wheel. It is located about 8 miles from West Yellowstone center. Quiet campground. Well maintained. We camped at Yellowstone Park / West Gate KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Nice KOA with level sites. It is very large with about 300 RV sites. The sites were not crowded together like a lot of KOA's. Some sites are gravel some are paved. Ours was a gravel, back-in site with some shade. We were in site 248 which was toward the back which was good for being quiet (there are some sites right next to the busy highway where it is very noisy.) But it was not good for wifi. Our wifi was really poor. Cable TV is fine. We were able to also set up our satellite with a clear shot for Direct TV. 4G for Verizon was pretty good. The sewer was a little difficult as it was so high that it was hard to get a good drop from our trailer. There was an extension on the top of their opening which we were able to take off and get a better slope. The rest of the utilities were just fine. One thing we don't like about KOA's is that even during this hot dry fire danger season they allow campfires which means we get smoke wafting through our trailer if we put our fan on. I guess they have to allow campfires because they have tent campers so they need it to stay warm. Restrooms were older but kept clean. We camped at Yellowstone Park / West Gate KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Going to Yellowstone EARLY - before 8 am if you can as the traffic can get really bad. Even if a parking lot in the park is full - go around a time or two as the parking spots will open up.. Pack your patience!!!! If you see an animal like bison, elk, bear - DO NOT STOP IN THE ROAD. You will cause a massive traffic back up. There will be more. I promise.

We had a pull thru site at the top of the park. The site itself was fine. But there were no trash containers nearby. The dumpsters were down closer to the entry, as was the dog walk. Our site was sloped right to left so we needed ramps to get level. The grill and ice cream stand that other reviewers liked was closed. We got there on Labor Day and that's when they close. Our biggest issue - dog poop everywhere. Inside the dog park and everywhere there was a grassy space. My husband even asked one camper if he was going to pick up after his dog and the guy got belligerent. Obviously the campground doesn't enforce cleaning up after your pet. Worst we've seen for that. We clean up after ours. We camped at Yellowstone Park / West Gate KOA in a Motorhome.

We wanted hook-ups and close to the park. This park worked perfect for our needs. Tons of sites. We had a delux pull through. Pad and patio were level, sites are on a slope. The interior roads are narrow, but navigable. Utilities were fine but very low water pressure, 25psi. Cable was functional. Trees at some sites might affect satellite reception. WiFi was easy to connect to but useless. Speeds are too slow for anything. Good Verizon coverage. It was a nice quiet campground especially for its size. Lots of trees to provide some shade. About a 10minute drive to town and the west entrance to the park. We did not use any of the recreational facilities. Nice staff, big laundry and small camp store. Overall the facilities are a little dated, but functional. Would stay here again. We camped at Yellowstone Park / West Gate KOA in a Motorhome.

Look for another campground if you are a 40 ft or larger motorhome!! We are a 42' and of course, unhooked, but had to back in to our pull thru and only just fit! Luckily we were on the end site to be able to do this. Roads and trees are way too tight and sites are very un-level. Lovely campground for much smaller units and lots for the kids to do. Hand scooped Ice cream was great, swings and patios were wonderful. Would definitely stay again if we were a lot smaller RV but NOT otherwise!! We spent 4 nights in Camping Cabin #144 in early August 2018. We were 4 adults and had 2 vehicles so the extra car we were able to park near the office. As we had a campervan we slept in that (even though as per KOA rules we shouldn't have been). The cabin itself was okay (one room, no washroom or kitchen) - the mattresses are thin and plastic covered, so really aren't very comfortable (fine if you are a youngster at summer camp, but not for an adult); one small low wattage CFL bulb doesn't give off much light; small mirror on back of door must have been installed by someone 6 ft tall as I could only see the top part of my head (I'm 5' 6"); only 3 wood pegs for hanging clothes/coats. Otherwise it was a cute cabin complete with porch swing and small bench. Located near the washrooms and Camping Kitchen. Campfire rings get cleaned out regularly, washrooms overall were clean and had good pressure and lots of hot water in the showers, but sometimes needed cleaning a bit more often than was done. Camp kitchen has a great setup with multiple sinks to wash dishes but unfortunately the electric burners there couldn't even boil water never mind cook a meal. We found the staff plentiful, pleasant and helpful during our stay. Don't expect too much from the wifi - it all depends on your location. Cabin #144 couldn't get much more than 1 bar. We had to stand on the road near Cabin #130 to use the wifi, which makes it difficult if you are trying to use a laptop instead of a smartphone. Overall it seems a well run park, albeit a bit on the expensive side (but then anything near Yellowstone seems pricey). We camped at Yellowstone Park / West Gate KOA in a Cabin.

Stayed here visiting Yellowstone. Park was geared toward people with younger children. Roads were narrow and spots were too. Had a nice patio with a swing, picnic table and a fire pit. The mosquitoes were awful, couldn't enjoy being outside for even a few minutes. Campground had a coffee shop, restaurant, and store onsite. We camped at Yellowstone Park / West Gate KOA in a Travel Trailer.

We had a Deluxe premium pull thought site for our 41' 5th wheel being pulled by a long bed, crew cab F-350. While the site was long enough for the trailer and truck unhooked, the lanes to the space was very narrow and the space itself was even more narrow. My tires were up against the concrete patio on one side and sinking in the grass on the other side. The site was so narrow that when we put our slide outs (5 of them) out, they made the in ground fire pit useless and much of the little patio was under the slide out. We didn't use any of the amenities....just a place to park our 41' RV while we visited the park. Interestingly, we noticed a number of a lot smaller rigs in a lot larger spaces while we were crowded in to this very narrow site. This site should have a discount for large RVs. We did have great Dish satellite service. The restrooms and shower building is older but it was clean. The dog park is exceptionally small (both of them)....especially for an RV park of this size. We camped at Yellowstone Park / West Gate KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

We had terrible weather during the two nights that we camped in a tent. We had difficulty finding a place that was not in the mud. The restroom near us was passably clean. We pull a 43 ft fifth wheel with an F350. Entry into the park was well marked and easy. The staff were wonderful and so were the RV'ers. Everyone sits out at night and welcomes visiting. Lanes are narrow but length of the sites made it easy to pull in and pull out. Lanes are gravel. Sites are gravel. We have a Deluxe 50 amp Full Hookup Pull-thru. And these sites are like 90 ft long and very wide with tall mature trees for shade. Site are very spacious and include a nice patio with glider swing and fire pit. Park has a restaurant that serves grilled to order steaks, chicken, trout, etc. for dinner and pancakes for breakfast. After a full day in Yellowstone, it was a real treat to come back and get dinner right away. And a coffee hut in the mornings. Also a huge selection of home made fudge in the store. Utilities are well placed and work well. WiFI in the middle of the week day when the park is empty, works well. Otherwise WIFI is marginal, IF you can get out to the web. AT&T Cell service is one to two bars in this area. Verizon Broadband is good. Cable TV reception is good - only 12 channels.Satellite reception is good. WiFi is pitiful - our only complaint. Two small fenced Dog parks Really nice indoor heated Pool & Spa. Nice play area for kids and no Bugs. Can't wait to return to this great RV park for a much longer stay next time.
