This is a beautiful state park with lots of activities. Sites are large and I don't think there is a bad site in the campground. All staff are friendly and helpful. Good AT&T cell coverage, Dish satellite and Verizon MiFi. Close to Chadron and shopping. We stayed here 6 nights and would do the same again if in the area. We camped at Chadron State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

very nice CG, lots of walk-up sites avail on this week day. Wide open sites, lots of space, nice grass areas. RR's were clean but dated. Very nice cabins available in this CG. Easy drive from Custer SP. This area has some fire damage along with beetle kill. Would definitely stay here again. We camped at Chadron State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

Arrived May 13 and the mornings have been in the low 40s and 50s with beautiful afternoons. We stayed here 5 nights (Sunday through Thursday) and there were never more than 6 RVs here this time of year. The nightly rate for RV sites is $20 plus $6 ($8 for non residents) for your vehicle park pass. All sites have electricity (at least 30A) but don't have sewer or on-site water. However, there are water spigots scattered around. So, unless your site is near a faucet (see online map), fill up with water next to the dump station before you get set up, as you'll be blocking the narrow roads if you fill up at the other spigots. If you plan to use the restrooms and showers, I'd suggest you select one of the sites (#50 through 70) on the hill, as there's only one restroom with flush toilets and showers and it's closest to site 57. There's also a laundromat there with one washer and dryer that run $1 each. There are two other restrooms in the camping area, but the one we checked was locked, so I don't know if they have flush toilets. AT&T service seems highly variable at site 57; one minute I have no or one bar and the next I have 3-4. Many of the sites on the hill will require some boards to level your rig. The entire camping area is big rig friendly, but the roads aren't very wide. Likewise, if you have a big trailer/fifth wheel, you may have to park your tow vehicle in one of the parking areas, as you're not allowed to park on the grass. The voltage at site 57 was variable enough to trip our surge protector, so I didn't use it and didn't encounter any problems. Despite several past forest fires in the park, the scenery is nice-very reminiscent of the Black Hills. The birding has been great here and we saw cottontail rabbits in camp and mule deer and turkey in the hills above camp. Our dog loved it here-lots of nice grass and no stickers. We didn't see any snakes on our walks but were told the area has rattlesnakes and ticks. We camped at Chadron State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We did not camp here, however, hiked through the CG during our stay at Red Cloud CG in mid-October. This appears to be a very nice CG with services. There's a primitive section $13/night and electric $20/night. The sites are arrayed in 2 loops and most parking areas are asphalt surrounded by grass and appear to be relatively level. There are a few trees for shade and lots of sun. Water and dump are available in the park. We met the office staff who were helpful and friendly. We camped at Chadron State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Chadron State Park has many amenities - hiking trails, tennis, frisbee golf, swimming, picnicking, horseback riding, etc. Its also less than 10 miles to 3 other trail heads, including those in Pine Ridge NRA. Chadron is 8 miles north of the CG.

Overall Rating:

A beautiful well kept state park in hilly terrain with mowed green grass between sites with paved road and sites, some level, others needing leveling. Lots of trees and beautiful views. One small play ground, a dump, one nice bath house with flush toilets and hot showers plus several pit toilets. Scenic drive through the hills. Just off the highway so a little road noise. Price was $8/day state entrance fee plus $20 camp fee. We camped at Chadron State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

This is a beautiful and scenic state park with great facilities. We camped here just one night on our way across the country. We travel with two big dogs and there were trails and open spaces for them to run around. The spaces were of good size and easily accessible. Most sites are not pull through and have only electricity but this didn't bother us. The camp manager was very friendly and helpful. It would be great for a longer stay as there is lots to do with tennis courts, horse back riding, and scenic trails. I highly recommend! We camped at Chadron State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

We made a poor choice in thinking this would be a convenient, inexpensive overnight stopping point. Cost includes a $7 transaction fee (to make a reservation) and $5 collected at the gate for a Nebraska State Park Entry Permit that was not mentioned when we made the reservation (checking back, we found that it is disclosed in the reservation paperwork that was emailed). If we had wanted to take the car into town to shop, we would have had to buy a permit for it also. The site had 30A electric only, some sites have water available. Site #5 was difficult to park in due to site post on opposite side of road. The reservation clerk on the phone has no clue about which sites may or may not work for a big rig. Verizon cell phone service is nonexistent without a trucker's antenna; then it is marginal. With luck and careful antenna aiming, we were able to receive PBS on TV. This might be a pretty park to take the family for a stay in the country, but we would not use it again. We camped at Chadron State Park in a Motorhome.

As has been stated in other reviews, this is an "OK" park for an overnight. All sites are gravel. The day that we were it had been raining, and the entire park was muddy and wet gravel. There was no one at the park when we went to check in. The sign asked us to pick a site and put our money in an envelope. It is the only park within several miles of Chadron. When I called for a reservation, whoever answered the phone didn't have a clue about the park. I asked if there was a pull through available as I have a 45' coach and was towing. I didn't want to unhook. She told me that someone would have to call me back. I never got a call back. If you want to pay with a credit card, you have to find a hardware store in town for them to run your card. We camped at Chadron State Park in a Motorhome.

Chadron State Park is the oldest state park in Nebraska. The park is right on Hwy 385 in the Pine Ridge area at about 4,000 feet of elevation. The campsites were well groomed and of good size and spacing. Water spigots were available throughout the campsite. The restrooms were clean and shower water hot. Clean up of the area is in progress, it looks like a fire sweep through so clean up in the surrounding area is ongoing. We are staying 2 nights in camp site 53. No local TV channels. We camped at Chadron State Park in a Motorhome.

Chadron State Park is the oldest state park in Nebraska. The park is right on Hwy 385 in the Pine Ridge area at about 4,000 feet of elevation. The campground was very pretty and in good repair. The campsites were well groomed and of good size and spacing. Water spigots were available throughout the campsite. Based on a previous review that said the back loop had great views I booked a spot there. However, not all sites have these great views as we found out later. Nevertheless, it didn't really detract from our stay. The restrooms were along the lines of other state parks we have visited but clean and in good repair. We did notice some traffic noise from the highway, especially when in the upper part of the campground, but couldn't hear it inside our trailer with AC running. We only used the park for an overnight stop and did not take advantage of the other features of the park. We camped at Chadron State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Very nice State Park nestled in the Pine Ridge of Northwest Nebraska. We stayed here overnight in route to the Black Hills. Very clean facilities. The lower area has some shaded spots, but the upper loop has a better view of the great scenery. We camped at Chadron State Park in a Motorhome.

The scenery both in and out of the campground area is beautiful, Green and soothing. The sites are large and easy to negotiate. Lots of space behind the sites to spread out. The restrooms and showers were clean and nice. We had a couple concerns. The community fresh water access near our site was non operational. Our main concern was the ticks. We attempted to take a hike, but had to return after 15 minutes and then spent 45 minutes removing ticks from our dogs and ourselves. Ticks were also prevalent at the campsite. We were constantly checking ourselves to see if new ones latched on. We kept our dogs inside after we realized the extent of the problem. We camped at Chadron State Park in a Motorhome.

Awesome State Park. It's well manicured and very green. Has a friendly staff and large sites. Some road noise, but not bad at all. Has a great pool, fishing pond, star gazing. Verizon cell and air card worked well. There is a great Chinese buffet in town. Nice 1.25 hours north to Custer State park in South Dakota. We would camp here again. A week long family vacation to Yellowstone and beyond, and my kids say the Chadron night was they're favorite! This park is very large, and the sites are fairly well spaced out. The Pine Ridge area of Nebraska is very scenic, and this park sits right in the middle of it all. Huge swimming pool, with two diving boards, a nice park to just walk around, hiking trail, and a lake that we rented paddle boats on for a fun morning. Very reasonable rates, all the amenities we needed, and a beautiful sunset. Not my first time there, and won't be the last. We camped at Chadron State Park in a Truck Camper.

Overall Rating:

This is a great state park! Has lush green grassy areas which are mowed regularly with lots of trees for shade. Campground has all back-in sites that are angled along both sides of the one-way road. Accessible for big rigs. Sites on "top" of loop have better chance of cell reception, but it is a weak signal. Lots to do for families: bike/hike trails, tennis courts, several playgrounds, activity center with archery and crafts, swimming pool, trail rides. We would definitely stay again! There is lots of water access but not at site, so bring your long hose or stop near a pump to fill your tank. We camped at Chadron State Park in a Fifth Wheel.
