This is a nice state park in remote western Nebraska with nice camp sites but also great plays during the summer, swimming pool, horseback, rides, resterant, etc. This is the place to go if you like history. We camped at Fort Robinson State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Fort Robinson is a hidden gem. The surrounding bluffs are beautiful, and the history of the fort as exhibited in the museum is very interesting. We stayed in the Red Cloud Campground, which is the full-hookup campground. All sites are back-in. Check in was easy, and the staff was helpful and friendly. The interior roads are paved and relatively easy to navigate. We stayed in site 113, which I wouldn't recommend. The picnic table was oddly placed on the opposite side of the rig from where it should be. The hookups were fine. There is no WiFi. There was a tree next to our site which partially blocked our rooftop satellite. The grass at the site would be nice if it had been mowed, but unfortunately is too tall to enjoy. There are two parking areas along the entry road, which make it easy to hook up the toad when leaving. The whole area is really nice, and I would definitely return. We camped at Fort Robinson State Park in a Motorhome.

We stayed at Pony Soldier campground with our 35 foot rv. All sites were back-ins, but we were able to select a site that was easy to back in. The sites in this campground are generally well spaced apart around a big loop. We did drive around and saw the barn campground, where the sites, are in lines. There is also third campground with no services. (Ours had full hookup.) We took a chance without reservations and did a walk in. The park has a policy that it will not accept walk-ins until 2 pm, which gives current guests a chance to extend their stays. Despite this and it being a busy summer weekend, we had our choice of spaces. The park keeps a lot of walk-ins available. The site was quite long, but the sewer hook-up is situated along the middle of the site, which meant that in order for our sewer line to reach, we had to park forward in the site. This meant that there was not quite enough room for our toad to pull straight in. Fortunately, there was plenty of room to park it crosswise, but with the heavy rains that weekend, it would have been preferable to be able to take full advantage of the asphalt drive way, rather than on person having to step off in the grass. Sites were very level. At $26 per night, this would have been an excellent value, but the Park insists that each vehicle carry a Nebraska State Parks pass. At $8 per vehicle per night, the $32 added to our stay pushed the price of our stay into the expensive range for us. We camped at Fort Robinson State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The showcase of the park is the old military fort, which operated from the mid-19th century until the end of WW2, being at various times in its history a cavalry fort, the central supply for the region, the national's largest cavalry remount station (with up to 12,000 horses there at a time), a K-9 training center (with up to 3000 dogs at a time) and a German POW camp. Be sure to take the wagon tour. At $7 per person for an hour-long tour, it's a real bargain.

Not a bad state campground, although not the best Nebraska has to offer. Staff is very friendly. We took the wagon ride and the jeep ride and our guides were great. They both gave great overviews of the history of Fort Robinson. As for our site, it didn't have any grass. It was mostly weeds and dirt. Sites are close together, but our neighbors were pretty quiet, so it wasn't an issue for us. Verizon MiFi, AT&T cell phone and Dish Satellite all worked well. We camped at Fort Robinson State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

This is a historically interesting very large State Park. We stayed in the Soldier Creek electric only section in a very large grassy and treed spot. Sites are paved and mostly level. The grassy area was muddy due to nightly thunderstorms. The electric tower was conveniently-placed and worked well. We had no OTA or cable television. Verizon data and phone were strong but no AT&T was available. The interior roads are paved and made a good area to walk the dogs. Tick season was in full swing so be careful going into any long grass areas. There is a dump station at the exit of the campground. The small town of Crawford had a small grocery store and a couple of fuel stations. In addition to the campground fee, Nebraska requires a daily entrance fee which you pay when you check in. We camped at Fort Robinson State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Both the Natural History Museum and the Historical Museum at the fort are very interesting and well done. The hour drive to the Agate Fossil Beds was also well worth the trip. The collection of Indian artifacts at The Visitor Center was very impressive.

There was so much history to see in Fort Robinson. The park as a whole was really pretty, although our site was a little...it could use some work. I don't necessarily blame the camp ground, but it was very awkward. The ant hills made the ground very uneven, which was hard to walk on, and our fire ring was behind our camper, which was very inconvenient. It felt as if we would be using our neighbor's fire ring if we were to use it. I give the park a very good rating because of all the attractions and the hospitality. We camped at Fort Robinson State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Very nice park. The only issue we had was how to check in for our space. It's confusing for a newcomer. Fortunately we stopped at the office/cafe/lodge to ask & discovered that is where you check in for the campground. We stayed in the Red Cloud campground with full hookups. Our space was spacious & level. If you don't want full hookups the Soldiers Creek campground had a lot more mature trees for shade. We enjoyed the museum & looking at the fort buildings. We would stay here again. We camped at Fort Robinson State Park in a Motorhome.

. Fort Robinson State Park is WONDERFUL! With DW's patient guidance, I managed to back our 32' Class C with attached 22' car-hauler trailer into our assigned slot. What an absolutely beautiful campground. Our site was level, and spacious. If we had some leeway in our schedule, we would have stayed another day or two to tour the original and recreated buildings from Fort Richardson. Very nice park as stated by other reviews. Update on vehicle fees - $6 daily for Nebraskans $8 daily out of state. That is per vehicle so for a camper and toad - $16 per day for those visiting from out of state. Yearly pass for 2017 (out of state visitors) is $45 camper plus $22.50 toad =$67.50 good at all state parks. They do not pro rate, 2018 pass out next January. No discounts for military or seniors. I would stay here again just feel they shouldn't gouge so much on vehicle fees. We camped at Fort Robinson State Park in a Motorhome.

Loved this park. I took away a star only because it had a crowded feeling when it was full on the long weekend. And the washroom/shower building is quite a hike. We stayed with full hookups in Red Cloud Campground. Soldier Creek has electric hookups, but there is a water fill and dump station on the way in. Lots to do. Wagon rides, trail rides, jeep rides, museums, history, small evening rodeo, live theatre until Aug 15. Great biking (just watch out for tire "stickers" in late August.) We stayed on the roads after having to fix our tires. Park is very well kept. I couldn't help but feel so relaxed after a couple days. We extended by 2 days and still hated to leave. Lots of day trips from this area, too...Toadstool Park, Hudson-Meng Bison Kill site, Fur Trade Museum, Agate Fossil Beds Monument.... We camped at Fort Robinson State Park in a Fifth Wheel.
