This is still one of my favorite parks to camp at. We hadn't been here in a couple of years, but found things to be pretty much the same as the last time we were here - large sites and friendly staff. Our Verizon MiFi, AT&T phones and Dish satellite all worked well. Only thing I wish they could do is clean up the cotton from the cottonwood trees. Our site was white, like it was covered with snow. The sites closer to the lake didn't have that problem. We like this campground, though, and will stay here again when in the area. We camped at Cottonwood COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Our experience at Cottonwood: 1)upon arrival, we shoveled up 10 large piles of dog poop from previous campers 2) two people set up a hammock between the trees at our campsite...no clue who they were...they were removed by Park Ranger 3) a vehicle in the next campsite where people slept...no tent...no camper...had radio blaring from car 4)told by Park Ranger that he can't "discriminate" where campers sleep...so we left and they stayed. We're avid campers and have stayed here countless times over 20 years. We will not be back until they have guidelines that don't allow loitering and this type of behavior. We camped at Cottonwood COE in a Travel Trailer.

Great location, Remember to get water at the turn off. Dump station and Water station a mile from park. There is a water station in the park if you are close enough or have a very long hose. Park was nice and clean. Spots were crushed granite, lots of trees and friendly folks. We camped at Cottonwood COE in a Motorhome.

Very well laid out campground. Views from the lake front sites are postcard beautiful and all sites are spacious and comfortable. Very few pull through sites, most are "back in" sites. Very clean bathroom/showers and especially friendly camp ground hosts. Very satisfied experience. We camped at Cottonwood COE in a Motorhome.

We always stay in this campground when in the Yankton area. Most sites are quite large and the campground is peaceful and well-maintained. We had a gravel camping pad this time, but most of the sites are paved. We had a boat, truck, and fifth wheel and all 3 fit easily on our camping pad. Sites on the lake are laid out well and are worth the extra cost for "premium". Verizon MiFi and AT&T cell coverage were very good. Rate reflects our Senior Pass rate. We camped at Cottonwood COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Beautiful park. We had originally reserved a lake site, but couldn't get satellite and my football addicted husband had to have his satellite. The site we moved to was very long and we had a large front "yard". Nice patio area, fire ring provided. Quiet, peaceful, but look out for snakes. This rate if for the Senior Park Pass. We camped at Cottonwood COE in a Motorhome.

Beautiful park, paved roads and sites. We had a water front site, large and spacious. Friendly staff, they let you pick your site and come back and register. No internet or it would of been a "ten". We camped at Cottonwood COE in a Motorhome.

This is a campground the locals hope you don't discover! Situated on a small lake in the SE corner of South Dakota the campground is shaded by tall cottonwood trees. Roads and camp pads are gravel and cleaned after each visit. Premium lakeside sites are beautiful and filled most nights. Restrooms are modern and clean. Recommend reservations for weekends. We camped at Cottonwood COE in a Travel Trailer.

Not only is the rate a bargain, but the location is outstanding. I had a waterfront site, well spaced from others. The inland sites also looked attractive, again well spaced and with views of the adjacent lake. I stayed only one night on the way north, but would come back and stay for several days because of the recreation opportunities in the area. And the city of Yankton is only a few miles. All of the interior roads and almost all of the sites are on asphalt. Most of the sites are very long, easily accommodating a tow or a boat. The premium sites (costing $2 extra) are located near the lake. These sites tend to have less space between them and have a crowded feeling. The other sites are more spacious. There were a few pull-out sites. Each site had a fire ring and a picnic table. The electrical boxes containing 20/30/50 amp outlets are located within the appropriate location. The electrical voltage was on the low side, hovering about 119. Water and dump stations are located across the street from Pierson State park on Toe Road (free). The bathrooms contained 2 showers per gender and were very clean. Verizon air card and cell phone worked well here. There was neither Wi-Fi nor cable within the park. Camp hosts were on duty. Clarification: Cottonwood and Tailwaters are COE parks and located in Nebraska. Chief White Crane, Lewis and Clark SRA and Pierson are South Dakota State parks. Price reflects the senior discount. We would come back to this campground if we were in the area. We camped here with a 32 foot rig. We camped at Cottonwood COE in a Motorhome.

We stayed here in a 40' RV. This is our second time staying here. What a bargain for $8/night with Golden Age senior pass. The campground is immaculate; the beautiful huge tall Cottonwood trees provide excellent shade. Electric service was strong. Interior roads and pads are paved asphalt and easy to negotiate. Site spacing is very generous with large crushed stone sitting area. You have a fire ring at each site for a campfire. This is one of our favorite campgrounds in this area and we will continue to return to it when we can. Good Verizon (4 bar) phone coverage and my Millenicom MiFi was 4G LTE. We camped at Cottonwood COE in a Motorhome.

This is one of the best COE campgrounds I've ever been in. The staff (volunteer & paid) is excellent. All are very friendly and know their business. Campground and showers/bathrooms are very well maintained. Sites are good sizes. Each site has a large gravel area with picnic table. There are also great bicycle paths in the area. You can ride your bike all the way to Yankton if you want to. We will definitely come back again. Our rate reflects half off for the Senior Pass. We camped at Cottonwood COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Rate reflects Senior Pass discount. Typical COE campground with lots of trees, paved access roads and gravel sites. The pull-through was a little tight for our 37' motor home due to the sharp bend. Like most it gets very busy on weekends and holidays, but we called and were able to get a walk-up site. We camped at Cottonwood COE in a Motorhome.

What a nice campground located in a large stand of cottonwood trees. We stayed here in a 40' motorhome with toad on site P53. This has to be the best site in the park, right on the lake on a point with very good green space between you and the next site. Wide asphalt interior roads, no low hanging tree branches, level asphalt pads, Verizon cell and MIFI worked well. Could not get satellite because of the trees. My rate reflects Golden Age discount. Restrooms and showers were clean. We would definitely stay here again. About 7 miles to Yankton where you can get all of your supplies and several nice eating places. Overall Rating:

We camp here fairly often. The south loop is mainly reservable, north loop mostly walk-in. South loop is all paved, north loop has some gravel sites. Two restroom/shower houses in campground. North loop's has doors on shower stalls, but water is push button, so you have to re-push as you shower. I could not find a way to adjust water temp. South loop has curtains on the shower stalls, so privacy isn't the greatest, but you can turn on water and adjust temperature, no push button water. Restrooms are usually pretty clean. Holidays and weekends are busy. Nice lake for fishing and kayaking. Free swimming beach not too far away, and really nice walking/biking trails. Close to the river and Lewis and Clark Lake if you like to boat. Regular price for camp site is $16. and $18. Senior Pass holders pay $8. and $9. Army Corps of Engineers campground. Generally a pretty quiet and friendly campground. We camped at Cottonwood COE in a Travel Trailer.
