This was our second choice, but we arrived late so made it our #1. The attendant was still there at 7:30 and check in was a breeze. $20 a night plus $8 for the car. We got a nice spot with shade and trees. The Park is on the south side of Grand Island and pretty close to I-80. The spot was level and had electric only. They had a water supply and a dump, but we didn't utilize either as it was just an overnight stay. No wi-fi here, but generally a nice, quiet place with trees and a lake nearby. We camped at Mormon Island State Recreation Area in a Travel Trailer.

This is an okay place to stop on your way across Nebraska on I-80. Good for a night or two but not much more. We got good service from the attendant when we asked to change sites. The person who was on our site before us failed to clean up after his dog and we didn't want to do it, so we moved. The attendant apologized right away and found us a better place. We had good Verizon MiFi coverage, AT&T cell phones and Dish Satellite. It's also a good location for shopping, dining, etc. in nearby Grand Island. I rate this park as average - not bad, but certainly not great. We camped at Mormon Island State Recreation Area in a Fifth Wheel.

This campground was close to I-80. The roads in the campground were paved and in good shape. The campsites only have electricity but there is a dump and water available in the campground. There are only a few sites long enough for a motor home and tow vehicle unless you want to unhook and back in. It has trees and a pond so nice to spend time outside. We camped at Mormon Island State Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

We called earlier in the day and reserved the last site. It is very convenient to I-80, but that also means road noise. The lake between the highway and campsite looked nice. We stayed one night and did not venture anywhere. Gnats were bothersome. We experienced an invasion of butterflies (no one knew why). Fine for 1 night but we probably won't stay there again. Plus, we had to also pay $8 for an Out of state entry pass. $28 was not a real value. We camped at Mormon Island State Recreation Area in a Fifth Wheel.

Just off I-80. Has a gas station/convenience store at entrance. And even a hotel. Across road from lake. Close to shower house and bathrooms ( which were very clean and nice). Grassy area was in shade. Nice lake for swimming. Beach bathrooms are bad. Could stay a couple days if you wanted to swim. No Wi-Fi. Some air TV stations. We were going to stay at another nearby park but this looked inviting as it can be seen as you pull off I-80 we stayed here instead. We should have continued to the other park. This campground is okay, but that's about it. There is no easy place to fill up with water. The 'pull through' spots are more 'pull over' spots as they are just a wide part of the road. We were originally assigned one but our slide out would have stuck out in the road. The worst part were the loud, close, neighbors in the park. They were loud for the day and early evening and then left around 9, way past the checkout time. How about a little supervision Ranger? We had a pull through spot. Fall rates were in effect: $14 for camping and $5 daily fee. The electric service is 30 amp and very good. Fresh water is available to fill your tanks. There is a dump station. The restrooms were boarded up for the winter.
The sites are away from I-80 so road noise is not an issue. We camped at Mormon Island State Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

I suppose if all you need is a place to pull off I-80 with a large RV, this place will do. But for anybody hoping for some quality time in the outdoors and a good night's sleep, better keep on driving! The park is inexplicably crowded, even on a week night. The camping spaces are closely packed and since the park is a stone's throw from I-80, the traffic noise is deafening. The restrooms looked like they hadn't been cleaned in years. The "beach" is a weed-choked mud hole. I don't know why so many state parks list "swimming beaches" when it's obvious that no one ever swims there. Two stars only because the camp hosts were friendly and accommodating. We camped at Mormon Island State Recreation Area in a Truck Camper.

Price includes $5/daily entry permit but not the $7 reservation fee. Entry permit is $25/year. OK campground. Sites are mostly level and wide, but tend to be short. Roads are decent for a big rig and it was easy to back in. No water or sewer hookups, and you block the road when filling up at the water spigot. The biggest drawback is its location at the intersection of an interstate and highway. Most of the time the road noise isn't bad, but for some reason trucks frequently need to hit their jake brakes and the sound really carries. Otherwise it's a decent campground and I'd give it a higher rating if they had FHUs. We camped at Mormon Island State Recreation Area in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Stuhr Museum of the Prairie Pioneer is definitely worth a visit May 1 - Labor Day when the Historic Railroad Town has living history interpreters throughout two dozen businesses and homes from the 1800s. The rest of the year those buildings are locked and shades drawn, so you might be disappointed - though you can still see the Pawnee earth lodge, train exhibit, two small museums, and a lovely park.

Stopped here overnight on our drive back from Ohio to Colorado and got the very last available site. It was by the road, so we didn't feel comfortable putting out our driver side slides for fear someone would drive by, not see them and either hit them or hurt themselves on it it. But the location was very pleasant and relaxing, with lakes to walk around. We didn't use the facilities as we had them on board. It was totally fine as an overnight. We would return, but would want a different spot so we could comfortably open all our slides. We camped at Mormon Island State Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Traveling across country and needed an overnight spot. The park is very easy to find from I-80, you can see the freeway traffic from the campground but you don't hear it. The campground has the Platte River on one side and Mormon Lake on the other, choose your site then self register at the entrance. The gravel sites have 30 & 20 amp electricity only. Fresh water fill and dump station have easy access. We camped at Mormon Island State Recreation Area in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a very nice park with a beautiful little campground. The sites are large enough to maneuver easily and there is plenty of space between you and your neighbor. It's far enough away from the Interstate that highway noise is not a big issue. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Mormon Island State Recreation Area in a Fifth Wheel.

This was great for an overnight stay -- handy to town, fuel and the interstate. Site was level. Dump station was handy, and so was the potable water access. No sewer or water at the sites, electric only. Clean park, scenic lake with quite a few people using it for fishing. Swimming was also permitted in designated area. Would not hesitate to stay here again. We camped at Mormon Island State Recreation Area in a Travel Trailer.

Very nice park, just off interstate, but still relatively quiet. Spacious sites with shade. Very relaxing after a long day of travel. Good for a couple of days stop over. Not much to see around location, but nice for a respite. We camped at Mormon Island State Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

What a great campground, huge sites and lots of grass. Had a great stay right off the freeway. Can't believe anyone would pay to stay in a private campground when this is so close with such a great price. We camped at Mormon Island State Recreation Area in a Fifth Wheel.
