4 RV Parks near Hay Springs, Nebraska
Aug 2017 - $15.00
What a JEWEL. A little gem in the middle of Norther Nebraska. City park, easy in, easy out, 6 pull through spaces, alternate hookups, long sewer and water hookups for some No cable, wifi, a little, sometimes. Big park across the street to walk the dogs. City swimming pool adjacent to park, It wasn't open while we were there, kids back in school. A great place to spend a night or a week seeing the area. Nice small town. would stay again if in area. - ChiefUSN
Sep 2015 - $10.00
This is a very eclectic campground with a resident "manager" who was friendly and available. All the other campers were long-term. The sites were generally level with water hook-up only. Payment was made by envelope at an unattended office. What a refreshing change from the formal "check-in" at the big parks. The pool was closed for the season, but the town was taking up a collection to "save the pool"! There is a large, well maintained park across from the campground that offers plenty of exercise for the kids. The amenities in town were all walkable and there was plenty of room to run your dog off leash.
The only negative were the restrooms. They were quite frankly disgusting and in need of upgrading. - DHK
Jul 2015 - $15.00
City campground, lights, water, sewer. There is a pay box on site but we went to city hall and paid to get wifi password. Wifi was ok but kept getting knocked off and have to sign on again, even with the repeater. Right next ot swimming pool and good eats downtown Only about 10-12 spaces. More of a overnight stop than a destination stop. - Jim Lee
May 2015 - $5.00
My disclaimer is that I retired from the Forest Service and have a fondness for FS campgrounds. That considered, I liked the Red Cloud campground, because 1) it is a good place for tent campers and folks with small trailers, popups, etc. 2) it is not a good place for four thousand pound monsters with smelly sewage hookups. You can see my prejudice.
Mostly it was very pretty, quiet, and cheap. I have a Golden age pass, or senior discount pass as it is now called. That reduced the cost to $2.50. There would have to be major things wrong with a campground to complain at that cost.
I needed a place for an overnight stay, and this was perfect. If you have anything over 25 feet, other places are probably better. But if you tent, or have a small rig and don't need hookups, this is a wonderful place to camp. There was a large RV camped there, but probably at the only site that could handle a rig of that size. You will also need to be skilled at backing your rig for some of the sites.
For $2.50 or $5.00 (if you have to pay full price) there is nearly nothing to complain about. That said, I did not use the toilet. But my experience is that the FS campground toilets are generally clean and odor free unless horribly overused. I plan on staying here again as I make this trip on a yearly basis. Happy camping! - Corno1
May 2012 - $5.00
A primitive National Forest campground. Well shaded, quiet and clean. Not big rig friendly though. Just off of hwy 385, 10 miles south of Chadron, just a couple of minutes to Chadron State Park. Excellent for an overnight stay on your way to, or from the Black Hills. - ken22
Jun 2017 - $28.00
A beautiful well kept state park in hilly terrain with mowed green grass between sites with paved road and sites, some level, others needing leveling. Lots of trees and beautiful views. One small play ground, a dump, one nice bath house with flush toilets and hot showers plus several pit toilets. Scenic drive through the hills. Just off the highway so a little road noise. Price was $8/day state entrance fee plus $20 camp fee. - 210jem
Sep 2016 - $20.00
This is a beautiful and scenic state park with great facilities. We camped here just one night on our way across the country. We travel with two big dogs and there were trails and open spaces for them to run around. The spaces were of good size and easily accessible. Most sites are not pull through and have only electricity but this didn't bother us. The camp manager was very friendly and helpful. It would be great for a longer stay as there is lots to do with tennis courts, horse back riding, and scenic trails. I highly recommend! - NormSenn
May 2013 - $30.00
We made a poor choice in thinking this would be a convenient, inexpensive overnight stopping point. Cost includes a $7 transaction fee (to make a reservation) and $5 collected at the gate for a Nebraska State Park Entry Permit that was not mentioned when we made the reservation (checking back, we found that it is disclosed in the reservation paperwork that was emailed). If we had wanted to take the car into town to shop, we would have had to buy a permit for it also. The site had 30A electric only, some sites have water available. Site #5 was difficult to park in due to site post on opposite side of road. The reservation clerk on the phone has no clue about which sites may or may not work for a big rig. Verizon cell phone service is nonexistent without a trucker's antenna; then it is marginal. With luck and careful antenna aiming, we were able to receive PBS on TV. This might be a pretty park to take the family for a stay in the country, but we would not use it again. - 2005-Fulltimers
Aug 2017 - $30.00
The spaces are rather close to each other but are well shaded. The park is dusty due to a well traveled gravel road next to the park. However, the park is well maintained, the owner and staff are friendly and helpful. The sewer hookup is somewhat awkward but the guide to your spot ensured you were able to connect. - Chalkie
Jul 2017 - $30.00
This was a quick overnight stop when we were traveling. Management was very helpful. While this is an older park, and a little rough, it was clean and the hookups were convenient. There are not many options in the area and this place was as good as any. Do shake down anything you put outside. This is sand hill country & there are lots of ants. - 2retreads
May 2017 - $30.00
Ok for an overnight. Great location for us. Easy on/off the Highway. Good signage, very friendly office staff. Sewer hookup was recessed pretty deep so an overnight hookup was not possible and awkward to dump in the morning. Very quiet road noise, shady, gravel pad. Excellent wifi but no cable. Would stay again if it was just an overnight. - TXTread
