Overall Rating:

We stayed 1 night while passing through the area. The park is a short drive from I-80 (Exit 303) along multi lane busy city streets. There wasn't much of a registration parking area. The interior roads are paved. The interior roads and turns are sufficient to maneuver larger RV's. The sites are a mixture of back-ins & pull thrus. The parking pads are gravel. This park didn't seem to understand the simple concept of the importance of a flat, level site as the sites were not level. Saw some coaches with their tires off the ground to get level. The P/T sites were long enough to stay connected to a toad. Sites had sufficient room for opening slides. P/T sites share utility connections. They have full hook ups - water, electricity (50/30/20 AMP), & sewer. The sewer connection was well above ground making it difficult to establish a downhill flow depending upon discharge point. There was an outside table on a concrete patio but no fire pits. Distance and grassy areas establish privacy between the sites. Some of the sites appear to be extended stay sites. There were trees scattered throughout the park so satellite reception would be dependent upon your site and dish configuration. No park brochure so no information about television reception/cable. The park provided WiFi was good. Didn't try the Verizon WiFi hotspot or NET10 phone so don't know about reception. There was a designated fenced pet area with a grassy surface located in a corner of the park. No memory of waste collection stations around the park. There was sufficient area to walk dogs along the park's roads. Rated this park a little higher than it should have been due to the amenities and appearance of the park. We would probably stay here again if traveling through the area. We camped at Iron Horse RV Resort in a Motorhome.

The nearby hotel's amenities were available to the RV park guests with a shuttle available. Walmart located at the other end of town had easy large RV parking.

Overall Rating:

This was our first stay in Elko and at Iron Horse. We chose it due to the reviews on RVPR and their website but it is by no means a "resort". Easy entry/exit to and from the main street and the interior roads are easy to navigate. Efficient, friendly staff. A lot of permanents live here in both RVs and many of the "tiny houses" that are available. No problem as those spaces are kept up and not trashy or run down, etc. The one row of pull thru sites are set up where RVs alternate and face each other. Hookups are in the middle for both and the spacing on that side is very close. The other side makes up for it with an approximate 30' space between RVs with a nice strip of green grass fronting up to the small cement patio. Everything else is gravel. The wooden picnic bench table setup in most spaces is not good due to being really shabby and run down. The benches and table top both have warped boards, have splintered areas, and are in bad need of either being repaired and re-stained or completely replaced. The very small pool and spa area is nice and kept clean but the two restrooms are outdated and could use a going over. No mirror, no hooks or even a bench, just the bare necessities. We did not check out the main clubhouse restrooms/showers. The one thing we noted that got our attention was the row of back-in spaces directly across from us. We noticed that two Class A coaches had their front wheels about 5" off the ground and that both also had blocks under the fully extended jack pads. This is not good and we would have never accepted one of those back-in spaces due to this. A Class A coach should not have to lift the front wheels off the ground to get level, not in any RV park! So once again this is not a resort but it is a clean and well run facility and is also the best in town in our opinion. Use of the Hilton Garden Inn on the hillside above the park is also granted to those staying at Iron Horse, as is a 20% off on meals in the restaurant. We camped at Iron Horse RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The Northern Nevada State Museum was really good and the various displays were really set up well. Something for everyone to see and enjoy. Best breakfast in town is at the Coffee Mug on Commercial Street. Their breakfast potatoes are to die for and the omelettes not too shabby either. In general a fun little city to spend a day or two looking around and the countryside out of town also offers great scenery............

Stayed on a stop over. Easy to enter and exit, sites are level, utilities are kept up. Park is clean, staff is very helpful. Nice play area for the kids. Dog friendly. You can use some facilities at the near-by Hilton. Can't ask for more for a stop over site and would not have a problem if we wanted to stay for a few days. Sites all seem almost level. Some noise from local train tracks but didn't hear any noise at night. We stayed in a travel trailer. We camped at Iron Horse RV Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Looks real new, real clean. Friendly reception. Perfectly level pads. All new roads and facilities. Didn't use any of the facilities because we got in so late. Looked like a very large rec room and social room. It looked like a very nice place to stay for more than 1 night. We saw lots of folks coming back from the showers; that tells me that they are nice, especially since they are new. We camped at Iron Horse RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Very nice place, easy access from highway. Clean, tidy spots that are pretty big and level, though no privacy. Didn't use the pool but it is tiny! Really more of hot tub size. Check-in was easy and friendly. They have a small store, ping pong table, soda machine, movies to rent and an ongoing rummage sale to which I added a book. Quite a few full-timers mixed in with short stay folks. They were nice looking and it didn't bother me. We camped at Iron Horse RV Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Elko, for a small town sure has a lot going for it. Iron Horse is located a short distance off the Interstate and the signage is a bit confusing, you want to turn at the driveway between the Quality Inn and the Hilton Garden, this road will take you right to the office. We opted for a pull thru. They are side by side and a little tight. I think I would choose a back in site next time. We had no problems getting level but noticed some folks with boards and/or tires off the road. Roadways are paved, sites are gravel. Park is spotless. We didn't have any problems with noisy trucks as a previous reviewer mentioned. There are quite a few folks living here as they work the local oil fields, etc. We would stay again/recommend this park. We camped at Iron Horse RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Don't miss the Coffee Mug for a meal - anytime of day, it's good. We enjoyed the California Trail Visitor Center located about 8 miles west of Elko on I80....its free to visit and very well done. We also enjoyed a later afternoon drive out to Lamoille Canyon. Lots of museum in town that we left for our next visit!

Park is close to everything but still out, sort of in a hole. The train is an irritation at night but you soon get used to it. The spaces are nice, the people are nice. Been here for a few weeks so see a lot of overnighters come through, no problem. The monthly price is highest in town when you stay a month, you pay electric extra (when monthly) but water/sewer/cable are good, two dog yards. We camped at Iron Horse RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Everything is close. Back road is easiest in and out for us as we are just a few spaces from it. Albertson's and a small shopping center are within a couple of minutes. Get fuel further down Idaho, Chevron is highest in town.

We stayed there at the park for two weeks and very much enjoyed the facilities. Several people live here full time and those folks appear to be maintaining their sites. Since this resort is close to I-80, a fair amount of folks come for just the night. Staff was very friendly and helpful; laundry room was clean and inexpensive. Greenbelt/grass areas are maintained and watered daily. I wish the pool was a little bigger (it was the size of a large spa). I did appreciate having doggie clean up stations throughout the park. As mentioned by other reviewers, occasionally, one can hear the train going by, but that is to be expected when traveling on a major thoroughfare. We camped at Iron Horse RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Since this resort is affiliated with the Hilton Garden inn (located next door), one can get passes for their pool and gym room. If you have time, visiting Lamoile Canyon is a must. Beautiful drive up to the end, plenty of photo opportunities. For those who want to have any work done on their Ford vehicles, there is a dealership next door (walking distance).

Stop for an overnighter and wish I would stay longer. The resort has everything you need to sit back and relax. Excellent water sewer and electric as well as cable and Wi-Fi. Some of the cleaniness showers that I have used. The only downfall was the sites need to be paved as they are gravel and mine was unlevel. We camped at Iron Horse RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Too bad Elko is usually a one night stop going and coming from the Tahoe/Reno area. We stay here two nights, and drive 32 miles to the Lamoille Glacier and there are numerous hikes with amazing views. This park is very clean, and the only improvement would be if the sites were concrete. The access roads are all paved really nice and the gravel is a custom light colored gravel. Also if the trees were a little more established. Otherwise this is the kind of RV park you enjoy because it is laid out very symmetrically with nice lawns on one side of each site. Tips for other Campers:

Stay an extra night and do the day hiking trip to Lamoille Glacier. It is 32 miles from the RV park. There are numerous hiking trails to take once you get to the end of the road and see the big parking area. It is dog friendly. Who would think there is a glacier in the middle of the Nevada desert, but once you get there, there are some amazing views.

This park is adorable! I read other people reviews about being bothered by noise and proximity of train tracks and was concerned at first, but the reality is we camped there for 6 nights and rarely heard the train, and it was never in the middle of the night anyway. The camp is very clean with manicured grassy areas, clean showers and restrooms, awesome clubhouse with pool table and huge TV screen, spacious laundry room. WiFi was pretty good most of the time. I liked the fact that you have a concrete pad by the RV (the site is gravel and pretty level). The girls at the front desk are super professional and friendly. I have to say the vibe of the city is super friendly in general. We enjoyed very much and will definitely stay again!!! We camped at Iron Horse RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.
