Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

This park opened the summer of 2016 and was a work in progress as of that August. It overlooks the Restogouche River. Most sites have a lovely view. The office and an interpretive center are in operation. The sites are gravel as of this writing and some have a +2 degree downward slope. If you don't want your front wheels several inches in the air, avoid even-numbered sites 42-56. Paving is in the future. The first section, Nos. 1-38, has the most level places, but many spots in that area are 30 amp. If your rig is more than 3.6 meters (11' 10") tall, avoid Subway St. as you arrive. Instead continue to Andrew St. and go all the way to the water, past an information center, and around to the park. We camped at Campbellton RV Camping in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Migausha National Park, a half hour away in Quebec, has many fossils from the Devonian Era. You can walk on the beach and find fossils, which must be surrendered to park personnel. Note that a hike featuring eras ends with the present although the path continues. Campbellton has no good restaurants but the T-Bar Restaurant at nearby Sugarloaf park has a full menu. The small French restaurant in Dalhousie is excellent.

Sugarloaf is set up for summer downhill biking but you must have a genuine dirt bike (straight handlebars, etc.) to be allowed on the ski/bike lift. Otherwise, there are easy trails for biking and walking. The "challenging" trail to an outlook yields an excellent view but after steep climbs and scrambling over boulders that will not be for everybody.

Overall Rating:

Good overnight stop - Big Rig Friendly.

Pros: 1) Convenient overnight stop between Gaspe and Prince Edward Island, 2) They allow RV washing , 3) Good free wifi

Cons: 1) The sites are not level - we choose a more expensive water view site, since the site length should have allowed us to stay hooked-up. That site (and it appears all nearby sites) was a bit off level front-to-back and side-to-side; so we needed to unhook the truck from the RV, to level and open the slides. Given the campground is only a few months old, sites that were not level side-to-side were a bit surprising (particularly for what they are charging), 2) the campground is overpriced, but we would probably stay here again given the convenient location; 3) there is some train noise, since there are train tracks directly next to the campground (but our sleep was not disturb, during our one-night stay). We camped at Campbellton RV Camping in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

There are a few low bridges near the campground. I would suggest that you do not solely rely on a GPS for directions to/from this campground (i.e., our RV GPS wanted us to go under one of the low bridges when leaving the campground; we thankfully had already identified that low bridge and had pre-determined our desired route for leaving the campground).

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

Beautiful new facility that only opened a couple of weeks prior to our arrival. We travel from Atlanta to visit my wife's sister every other year in her home town of Campbellton. This year we decided to take our Travel Trailer once we learned that the city would open an RV campground on the bay. I quickly booked our reservation. The facility is brand new and everything was sparkling clean and top notch. We were able to relax and watch the Canada Day fireworks from our campsite which also provided beautiful views of the water and mountains on the Quebec side. This RV park is convenient to downtown and nearby shopping. We look forward to our next visit. We camped at Campbellton RV Camping in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

If you have the opportunity, take the hike up to the top of Sugar Loaf Mountain. This area has an abundance of outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, fishing and boating. We have been out on powered canoes on several occasions and have very much enjoyed it.

Overall Rating:

New Park 2016 along Restigouche River with club house and future restaurant later this year. Spacious sites and wide gravel pads. All sites have good vista of River with Appalachian Mtns. in background and sunsets are magical. Rate noted is Can$ and got one night free for every 6 paid nights. Easy access to CG from nearby Interprovincial Van Horne bridge as well as from Highway 11. Rules noted on website are normal. Reference to train noise was not a problem for us during the 2-week stay and for the most part are daytime. Boat launch ramp being installed to access River. Restigouche River has been a major salmon river and guided fishing is usually available. If you like hiking (several different levels of difficulty), Mtn biking, 4-wheeling and other outdoor events this is a good place from which to operate. Street biking opportunity is reasonably possible as most streets are wide enough with the exception of busy Roseberry St., but using the wise walkway along Riverside Drive you can avoid that busy area. River front walk to water park for kids or the City pool are fairly close. July and August gratis musical entertainment available within walking distance a couple of nights each week. We will definitely return. We camped at Campbellton RV Camping in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Limited shopping available at City Centre while Roseberry St (walking distance) offers more choices. In neighbouring Atholville there is good shopping including Walmart.
