We stayed here for 2 nights, one night in campsite #7 (in our eyes, the far superior site because you are on the end with lots of space on the site -- did not have the crowds another review talked about) and one night in campsite #2 (one of the worst sites, as it is very cramped and claustrophobic). While the campsites are actually IN the parking lot on the edge, the general location is spectacular. You are at the base of Cannon Mountain right by Echo Lake. There is a small campstore there, public bathrooms, the lake to swim in, paddleboats and canoes to rent, a paved 8.7 bike path to the Flume Gorge, and countless hiking trails nearby, both easy and hard. Also Cannon Mountain has a gondola you can ride to the top in summer. It's in an absolutely beautiful area in Franconia Notch. The campground is right off the highway and very easy to get in and out. Sites are tight but paved and level. While the campsites themselves aren't the most scenic, the area makes up for that. Note: the site was big enough for the trailer, but we needed to park the truck in a parking spot in the lot. We stayed in a 26' trailer. We camped at Cannon Mountain RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

There are endless outdoor things to do here -- just use the campsite as your base. It must be spectacular in the fall with all the colors. Also, I heard that people camp there and ski in the winter (but I think there are no hookups available then?). Also super easy for a one-night stopover if in transit.

Yes the site is located in a parking lot so you will be seeing lots of traffic arriving through out the day. Also they like to walk the parking lot and check the campsites but nothing was touched at all. TV reception was good! Phone wasn't so good (I didn't miss it much). There is lot to do or not - it's your choice. We biked the bike path which is right around the corner from the parking lot and it was amazing! We will return hopefully when the weather is warmer to jump into the beautiful lake. We camped at Cannon Mountain RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

I will preface this review by saying that we stayed in site #7, on the end. This is the worst of the seven sites and greatly contributed to our negative experience. A stay in site 3, 4, or 5 may have been more enjoyable. Now, the good - flat paved site, full hookups, amazing views. Bathrooms were clean (available 9am-5pm). The bad - as noted, we were on the end site and there was an endless parade of tourists walking through our site to take pictures at the top of the hill. Truly, walking right THROUGH our site. My husband put some of our equipment at the end of our driveway to try and deter this behavior, but folks just walked around it, walked right over our mat and even left their personal items on our picnic table as they went to take pictures. Very odd. We stayed over the Columbus Day long weekend so the crowds were heavy. We understand that this is a parking lot, but the sites are clearly marked as camping sites. There was absolute no privacy or respect of the space. Far too stressful, we won't be back. Location is convenient to many area attractions but be warned - traffic in this area is HEAVY. We camped at Cannon Mountain RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Pinkham Notch/Mt Washington is about 50 minutes away. Great bagel/sandwich shop in Lincoln! As noted, traffic is very heavy in this area so be patient. Closest groceries available at Mac's ( 15 minutes). Skip Sunny Day Diner in Lincoln (overpriced and sub-par food).

This "campground" consists of seven, back-in, FHU sites on the backside of a very large parking lot. Campsites are close together with trees and shrubs between for a bit of privacy. We reserved and paid on-line so there was little interaction with the staff. Echo lake is stunningly beautiful -- and quiet once the beach goers leave for the day. We had to walk out into the parking lot to acquire AT&T cell service. Same for our Verizon Internet gizmo. This is a truly lovely corner of America, and we will definitely return. We camped at Cannon Mountain RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Date of Stay: September, 2015 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Franconia Notch State Park is a mountain pass in the heart of the White Mts of NH. The parkway goes from the Flume Gorge at the south to Echo Lake at the north for about eight miles. Cannon Mt RV Park is located at Echo Lake and is one of two state parks in that pass. A short walk about five minutes from your site is that lake with swimming and a bath house with showers but they lock it up at night. Only RV's and popups can stay here but you have to use all three hookups. There are fire pits and a picnic table at each site. The seven sites are right next to each other in a row and there are small bushes between most sites. It is expensive and open all year but hookups are not offered in the winter time. Reservations are advised! You are at the base of Cannon Mt and the ski slopes can be seen from the parking lot, so this is very popular for those that like to ski and are self sufficient. This area is one of our favorite places to camp. We camped at Cannon Mountain RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

In the area there is Cannon Mt ski area, trails, hikes, two State Park campgrounds, a beautiful bike trail, the Basin, fly fishing at Profile Lake, rock climbing on the cliffs and hiking the Appalachian Trail. Franconia Notch was known for the home of the "Old Man of the Mountain" made famous by Nathaniel Hawthorne and Daniel Webster as the "Great Stone Face". Part of it fell off I think in the 90's but people still hike in the area and stop to see where it was.

There are only seven sites and they are close together but next to Echo Lake with a great view of Cannon Mtn. The sites were very level and easy to back into. The staff went out of their way to be helpful. It was easy to explore Franconia Notch from here. We could walk to the beach, the recreation trail or Artists Bluff. Nice little camp store. Not good cell signal but surrounded by gorgeous mountains. Campground was very quiet after beach closed for the day. We camped at Cannon Mountain RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Take your time to see the Notch. Great trails, the Flume, Cannon Mtn Tramway. Gypsy Cafe in Lincoln is a great place to eat. Eclectic mix of food and homemade desserts.

This campground is adjacent to the parking lot for Echo Lake State Park. There is a lot of activity during the day with day visitors and park employees coming and going. It quiets down after the beach closes and folks head home. The sites back up to Cannon Mountain Ski area and you can watch the tram go up and down the mountain. There is hiking across the street and swimming in the lake. There is a beach and snack shop open in season. We've stayed here several times in summer and fall and like it very much for the convenient location and activities in the area. They do not allow dogs until after Labor Day. The bathrooms are locked when the beach is not open so you need to be totally self contained to stay here. We camped at Cannon Mountain RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Unlike the other review: the scenery is super to the back, there is a beautiful lake within a minute's walk. True, the front is a parking lot but TV reception is good and you are right on one of the best bike trails ever and it's only .8 miles from Cannon Mountain. We camped at Cannon Mountain RV Park in a Motorhome.

This is literally a parking lot. There are 7 spaces at the back of a large parking lot next to Echo lake. Unless you like looking at asphalt this is not the place for you. I had a 3 night reservation booked online. The online map made it look like a normal camping area. I left after one night. We camped at Cannon Mountain RV Park in a Motorhome.
