We stayed before for $10 less than this time. The rates are high due to being near manhattan. The first site we had was bad. Electric was not working correctly. Our bus would not accept the 50 amps from the box. We had to wait 2.5 hours for the maintenance guy. The guy said the power was good, my bus said it was not. The bus would not take it. Finally got moved to a spot with good power. No room for our car and paid another 20 per night for parking. Tight spots & high prices just like being in NYC. Don't expect anything else. You are paying for the location. This is a Marina first, then a campground. We camped at Liberty Harbor RV Park in a Motorhome.

Light rail is 100 yards away. Take light rail to Lackawanna station to get to Lower Manhattan. You can walk 3 blocks to a water taxi that drops you off near the financial district.

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $86.00
Overall Rating:

It's $95/night. Stay 6 nights, get one night free. 7% tax. We paid $914.85 for 10 nights or $91.48 avg. Bathrooms/showers weren't horrible. They had hot water, good water pressure and curtained changing area for each shower with hooks and bench. Laundry area has 6 each new, clean washers/dryers. Each machine digitally displays time remaining. The dump station wasn't gross - it's a basic dump station. Spaces are extremely tight and many are not level. We didn't have power issues. We never could log in to wifi even when the office gave us a different password. Honey wagon equipment is broken with no immediate plans to fix/replace it. There is a lot of construction nearby with associated noise. No recycling in park. Having said all that, we enjoyed our time at Liberty Harbor. We could see the Statue of Liberty through our windshield which we thought was pretty cool. It's super easy to get to wherever you want to go. The office provides excellent information (transit/maps/area highlights/etc) at check-in. The staff was super helpful with our myriad of questions through out our stay. We obtained DirecTV, Verizon cell and Verizon Mifi signals. A few thoughts. 1. We came and left via the I-78. It's a straight forward approach/departure and you won't have low overpasses. Follow the directions on the park website. 2. Don't let public transit intimidate you. It's safe, clean, cheap and efficient. If you have questions, you will find locals extremely friendly and helpful. Just ask! 3. As for site selection - there is one site that is pretty sweet if you can fit (C02). Otherwise it's tight tight tight everywhere. There is extremely bright lighting plus trash cans near C01, C03, B02, B04, B01, B03, A02, A04 so I personally would avoid them. Sites A20, A22 are near the dump station so I'd avoid those for sure. We were in B20. The dry site next to us (B22) was empty 8 of 10 nights. We would definitely stay here again. There's so much to do!! We camped at Liberty Harbor RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Allow sufficient time for Ellis Island Museum which tells a great story. 9-11 Museum/Memorial is emotional but excellent. Check out Rockefeller Center observation deck for amazing views. Attend a Broadway play. We saw Bandstand - even the husband liked it! Visit the tv-famous Carlo's Bakery in Hoboken, NJ, for delicious pastries. Ride bikes in Central Park. You can rent bikes there or take your own via ferry then ride Hudson River Greenway to Central Park.

We have stayed at Liberty Harbor a number of times. It is not a posh, destination campground--it is simply a place to park near NYC! It is an easy walk to the subway and transportation into the city--no more-no less! We don't necessarily like anything about the campground except where it's located...but sadly, we're now hearing they are closing! We will be looking for a new place that is within some reasonable distance of the city. Guess CONDOS pay more than campers! I haven't seen this, but was told by a friend who lives there in Jersey City. We camped at Liberty Harbor RV Park in a Motorhome.

Most of the previous criticism is valid. The additional problem we had was low voltage during high A/C use times. It was exceptionally hot during our stay so everyone was running their ac all the time. They did move us to a different site (A22), but that site had a power post that serviced three sites and worked only some of the time. The park is basically under-powered - a condition we are finding more frequently. The older parks were not designed to accommodate the power hungry larger RVs and apparently don't want to go to the extra expense of upgrading. The park has a feeling of being managed by a slum landlord. The only reason to endure these miserable accommodations made worse with no sewer hookups is the location - close to NYC, Ellis Island, and Statue of Liberty. Lots of construction of high rise structures adjacent to the park will impinge on the marina flavor of park surroundings. That being said, the office staff were very friendly and helpful. They do their best to deal with challenging circumstances. Jersey City appears to be trying to spruce up its appearance and there are some gems in the city, mostly restaurants who choose not to compete with NY by blending elegance with down home friendliness. We camped at Liberty Harbor RV Park in a Motorhome.

Outstanding restaurants are the Halifax in the W Hotel, and the Latham House. The bus tour (half or whole day) of Manhattan arranged by the park office is an excellent way to see the major sights.

I refuse to base an evaluation on location. Yes, this is absolutely an outstanding location, all manner of public transportation is available. The staff is great, helpful. That's where it ends. This is a gravel parking lot, very tight spacing and not a lot of room for the toad. Lots of garbage scattered-cig butts, metal wires/hardware pieces, bottle caps, and general garbage like used paper towels. The only dump site is a hazmat site, tucked in a corner and has construction materials piled up around it. I watched an RV dump, then start to drive off but forgot to close his valve, dumping clumps of human waste, then use a hose to scatter the spill in the gravel. Bath/shower (men's) was perpetually dirty, one toilet continually ran for 3 days, the ceiling sheetrock is sagging/peeling, shower pans were loose. Driving a big rig with toad into the park is a stressful event, city streets are skinny, lots of construction, and cars park anywhere creating a maze to wind through. The site price is way out of line high, their laundry prices are outrageous ($3 wash, 2.50 dry), and they charge an exorbitant $20 for using their honey wagon. But, they are the only game in town. We will not return. We camped at Liberty Harbor RV Park in a Motorhome.

This park is what it is. It's the closest place to park your RV and visit Manhattan. That's it. It's a large gravel parking lot with RVs angled in side-by-side. You have to back in and the tail end of your RV will be facing the side of another RV. The utilities worked fine, but the dump station is horrid. We did not dump before we left, we just waited till the next stop. Pets are allowed but there is NOWHERE to walk your dog. We had to walk ours back into a boat storage yard where we found a few patches of grass. All that said, this is our 4th stay here. It's just the only place there is. It is safe, as they have a security guard that walks the lot at all hours. Public transportation is nearby and there are a TON of restaurants within a mile or so, even within walking distance. The PATH is about 5 blocks down and there is a train that runs right next to the park. It HAS actually gotten a lot better as they are building some high-dollar condos all around the campground. We camped at Liberty Harbor RV Park in a Motorhome.

Staff were great and helpful. The sites are VERY tight and if your tow vehicle doesn't fit you have to pay extra for parking. No sewer connection. The bathhouse and laundry are well maintained and clean. Not a lot of grass for animals, but sufficient for the city. In the end - for NYC convenience it is excellent stay. Check in was great and staff was able to book us on the Day Trip into New York which was great. Picked up at the main gate. Sites are close to each other and back in, but there is room to navigate. You cannot get any closer to NYC so that makes it worthwhile. We camped at Liberty Harbor RV Park in a Motorhome.

We are from Spain and we have been touring the United States for three years with our motorhome.   Two years ago we stayed here and the comment is the same: it is not a camping, it is a parking. The only good thing about it is the location, right in front of Manhattan and close to the Path and the ferries that take you to Manhattan. It has nothing, but it is only an esplanade with marked parking spaces No dirty water drainage, no pool, no essential services, or anything at all, just the situation, but of course it is New York. Very expensive for what they offer. We camped at Liberty Harbor RV Park in a Motorhome.

We read the reviews before deciding to stay here, so we understood the type of RV park it was. It's all about location, location, location. 10 minute walk to subway that connects you to any other subway you'd need in NYC. Able to see Statue of Liberty from park. Manhatten skyline just a short 10 minute walk. It is no frills but very safe and secure. Felt safe walking from subway at 10pm.

Office staff very helpful on location of grocery stores, etc. They had great recommendations of how to get around in the city.

There are no sewer connections but there is dump station in park. We stayed for 10 nights with no issues. Sites are extremely close but we were able to open all 4 slides and the rig next to us able to do so also with plenty room walk around. We were able to park our tow Jeep at our site. We camped at Liberty Harbor RV Park in a Motorhome.

Would recommend to anyone wanting to save time getting to and from NYC, therefore more time to sightsee NYC. Yankee Stadium about 45 minute subway ride with 1 train change. World Trade Center Memorial 1/2 hour subway ride direct from local subway station.

Good: Excellent location convenient to New York City. Nice check-in package. Bad: Pricey, basically a parking lot. A place to sleep and do laundry while visiting NYC. We stayed 7 nights in a Class C motorhome. The location is the best thing about this, with three convenient ways into NYC: PATH train (cheapest at 2.75 and about 5-6 blocks away), Liberty Landing Ferry (only goes to WTC area, costs 7.00, but closer than PATH) and NY Waterway Ferry (closest, but doesn't run on weekends). The check-in package includes information on transportation, including PATH and Subway, plus lists and descriptions of "must see" and "rainy day" recommendations. We bought Metro cards which can be used on PATH and Subway both, and just refilled as needed. The "park" is a modified parking lot - paved roads and gravel sites. Sites have clearly markers and three-inch concrete strips as boundary lines between sites. Each site has electrical and water, but sewer is at a dump station. Roads looked swept but the sites generally had a scattering of small trash items (cigarette butts, etc.). All RV sites were long enough for a Class A and a short tow vehicle. Power distribution lines are underground, but power to each row is overhead -- high enough to clear the RV but low enough to make you nervous. Make sure your antenna is down Connections for 20, 30, 50. Construction nearby and the streets are being upgraded. In a few more years the neighborhood will look more like an upgraded waterfront than a run-down dock. Bathrooms and showers are tolerable, but not the greatest. Floors are tile with evidence of wear, mostly around the edges. Floors always seemed a little dirty, but clearly they are at least hosed down once a day. No cable but over-air TV reception was great. Strong Verizon signal. Park WiFi was terrible. We camped at Liberty Harbor RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Metro card usable for PATH or NY Subway was a convenient way to get around. Just add more $$ as needed. If you want to see Jimmy Kimmel or Seth Myers, standby tickets are a viable option. The day we went each show took about 30 people from the standby line.

This park is a great place from which to visit New York city, as the Path train picks up about 5 blocks from the park and delivers you to a variety of stops in NYC, including the World Trade Center and Memorial. They get LOTS of business here, even though this park barely rates "parking lot" status. There are RV site markers bolted to the ground to define parking spots. Actually it just allowed them to wedge as many rigs into the available space as possible. The park is W&E only, with a dump station. The sites are heavy small gravel, and the road is paved. There is a bath house on site, but is in serious need of updating. It looks to be handicapped accessible, but there is NO AC in the building, so they are hot. The electric service is easy to see, as all of the wires for the sites are strung overhead on a low wire. Even though we were connected to a 50 amp pedestal, we spent the whole week surviving on 30 amp power due to poor quality wiring. Our surge guard took us off line several times to protect our rig. When I checked the digital display, Line 1 was hovering around 105 volts, but Line 2 was showing 120 volts. I had to run a generator for about 1 1/2 hours to get through the heat of the day. But for the rest of the week we were restricted to 1 AC unit in the heat and humidity. Not really acceptable for $90 a night and gravel. The last day was a real stretch. The heat index was at 103 degrees and 1 AC wasn't cutting it. The office staff are security guards for the parking lot, and fill in registering people in. They do their best, but not really well equipped for this function. The Port Authority which owns the site and adjoining Ferry Terminal have abandoned maintenance on the area. Even though a dock area where various sail and power boats are docked is adjacent to the lot, foot high weeds and trash are everywhere. If it sounds like I am being hard on this place, you would be right! This is one of those places best described as "It is what it is". We camped at Liberty Harbor RV Park in a Motorhome.

You can't beat the location! The front desk staff was super friendly and helpful. Sites were clean, level, and spacious. The only issue I had was with a somewhat rude security lady. That also could just be the NY/NJ personality that I'm not use to. We camped at Liberty Harbor RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Close to all forms of transportation into the City. Local restaurants were good and convenient. Very expensive to stay so close to NYC. We travel with two small dogs. Both dogs got sick from walking around on the gravel parking areas. I think there is a lot of midnight gray water dumping. Dump station okay but some what difficult to get into. Construction near by made tight squeeze getting in and out of RV Park. We would go back for the convenience to NYC. We camped at Liberty Harbor RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Take the train, a 3 block walk away, into the City. It drops you off below the new world trade center, walk up and you'll be amazed at the new world trade center. Take the ferry across the Hudson River to the Wold Trade Center it is a WOW, also. Local restaurant offer side dining and breakfast on Sunday was really a treat.
