We spent 6 nights here enjoying the wonderful area. Our campsite was large, however because of the slope between the trailer pad and the picnic table, we could not really use our awning effectively or put down our rug. Still, the site is quite large. In addition to our trailer and truck, we had friends with a boat, truck, and tent. Everything fit fine on the campsite. We used the fire ring, but not the free-standing grill. The picnic tables are covered which was very nice in the hot weather. The bathrooms are ok, but the showers offer little privacy. The playground had been recently plowed and was quite dusty and dirty. Our 5 year old granddaughter called it "the No Fun Playground." The hosts here are just wonderful, plus we were happy to see regular patrols through of COE and Sheriff's Deputies particularly around 10pm when quiet hours start. This is technically a no alcohol campground, however no one said a word to us about having beer and wine in the evenings. I think they just want to keep the parties in control, as it is an extremely nice and quiet campground. For those who have previously visited, cell phone and data service have significantly improved. Yea!! We camped at Riana Abiquiu Lake COE in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

The swimming cove is a wonderful place to hang out, but becomes extremely crowded on summer weekends. Good rockhounding all around: look for agates. Birding is also quite good, but better in spring than full summer. The lake has pretty good fishing from a boat or kayak, but there are no rentals nearby. Also bring your fishing license as nearest place to buy one is in Espanola. For most other things, Bode's general store is very good.

Amazing views. Nice distance between neighbors. Great camp hosts. I called the day before to make changes in our reservation, and Venka was able to extend our stay on an another-wise full weekend.
If you have dogs, drive 1/2 mile toward the Dam Visitor's Center, but turn left into the Rio Chama Recreation area for a great place to play. We camped at Riana Abiquiu Lake COE in a Motorhome.

While an older park, it is well maintained. Spacious sites with beautiful views of the area and lake. The lake now has a swimming area which we did not use. This is an alcohol-free Core of Engineer's campground. We enjoy a glass of wine or a beer and are not happy about this restriction. Highly recommend this park. We camped at Riana Abiquiu Lake COE in a Fifth Wheel.

There are only 15 sites with electric and water. The rest you are dry camping. The views are amazing. There is a covered picnic table at each site. The good restrooms are in the Pedernal (with hookups) loop and by the dump station. The rest are just pit toilets. Our site (18) had a nice view of Pedernal and the lake. 19 and 20 would be good for that too. The campground hosts are very friendly. The shower had plenty of pressure but a real narrow stream. No privacy outside the shower for changing.
I would definitely stay here again. We camped at Riana Abiquiu Lake COE in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Drive 6 miles up the road to Ghost Ranch. See the red rock along the way.
Take 96 west to FS 100 to get up close to Pedernal (the flat top peak to the west).
Echo Amphitheater is only 10 miles North.

Secure. Safe. This campground is a model for all other government campgrounds. Clean and well maintained restrooms & showers. Staff is friendly and informed about the area. Great boating & fishing in summer. Swimming opportunities limited. We camped at Riana Abiquiu Lake COE in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Hiking. Fishing. Boating. Photography. Very scenic. Weather sketchy in spring (wind-chilly nights) with lots of boaters in summer. Very quiet in April - May. Third visit in past five years. Superb staff. Northern New Mexico is gorgeous. Georgia O'Keeffe country. The village of Abiquiu has a great store/restaurant for souvenirs and groceries. Put this camping experience on your bucket list for your trip between Santa Fe and Mesa Verde NP.

We stayed here for a few days waiting for the Walmart pharmacy in Espanola to order my husband's specialty medication. If you aren't careful you will miss it. The entrance is up on top of mountain.

The campground sits on a hillside and others down on a rocky mesa. Not a bad view in the park. Plenty of room between you and your neighbor. Covered picnic table. Has the largest playground I've seen in a government park for those of you with kids!

The bathrooms may be the only drawback. I didn't use them so can't evaluate them. We camped at Riana Abiquiu Lake COE in a Motorhome.

Great drive below the dam for rugged vehicle. Not recommended for normal, low clearance auto.

Ghost Ranch is nearby. (Be sure to call for reservations for the tours before you go.)

We enjoyed our stay here very much in spite of cold, wet weather. We reserved campsite 9 as it's a pull-through site. Actually it's more like a wide spot on the road with room for 2 RVs and tow vehicles. This was only our second time out in the new trailer, so we don't have all the bells and whistles worked out yet. We were concerned at first because the electrical box was on the wrong side, and our cord would not reach. We will certainly have an extension cord for the next trip, but the camp host kindly loaned us one. In spite of crummy weather all the electric sites were full most of the time we were there, however the non-electric loop was virtually empty. We had planned to kayak and fish, but the weather didn't permit. Instead we enjoyed the terrific birding and wildflowers while exploring the surrounding area. The dump station was full, and closed, when we arrived but open by the time we left. The campground hosts were super-friendly and helpful. I'm sure we will visit again when the weather warms up. We camped at Riana Abiquiu Lake COE in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Very good food at the Abiquiu Inn, also shopping at Bodes in Abiquiu - expensive but pretty good basic selections. Also the scenic trip out to the Monastery is worth while. Definitely plan to visit their gift shop.

Campground is very much out in the open; very hot, dusty and sandy; sites very close together, with very little privacy; high noise level, bathrooms smelled and full of flies. Our site advertised as a pull thru, but was not. Would not return to camp in travel trailer at this campground. We camped at Riana Abiquiu Lake COE in a Travel Trailer.

This is a gem of a campground, especially if you can get site #1 which is a bit isolated and looks out over the lake. There is a nice trail along the bluff overlooking the lake. The lake is surrounded by picturesque cliffs and mountains, a lovely setting. Well stocked general store, Bode's, just south of the lake has most anything you might need. Rate reflects senior pass. We camped at Riana Abiquiu Lake COE in a Motorhome.

Price was with senior pass discount. This park in the heart of Georgia O'Keeffe country that is scenic and makes a great base for touring Northern NM. Book ahead for tours of the artist's home in Abiquiu and sites she painted at Ghost Ranch, and be sure to eat at Bode's General Store. Sites have views of the lake and Cerro Pedernal mountain, as well as individual picnic shelters, and fire rings. Bathrooms have flush toilets and showers (not very private), but no electric outlets by the sinks. We got some AT&T cellular but no antenna TV. We would definitely return. A very nice Corps of Engineers campground built on a hillside sloping down to Abiquiu Lake. There are water plus electric sites, non-utility RV sites, and tenting sites. The sites are widely spaced and of varying sizes up to 80' long, and include a substantial shelter for the picnic table. The internet reservation website shows two sites with sewer hookups, but the sewer connections are no longer in use. Cell service is limited. The lake offers water sports activities, and the immediate vicinity offers hiking, biking, and sightseeing opportunities. Access is easy, the camp hosts are very friendly, and the campground is well-maintained. It is quiet day and night, and dark except for a few security lights. The price shown is for a water plus electric site with the half-price Federal Senior Pass rate. We would stay here again. We camped at Riana Abiquiu Lake COE in a Motorhome.

Because we have an access pass, we get a discount on the regular fee, which for electric is $18.00 per night. The camp hosts were wonderful. This is a small park, some sites are reservable, some 1st come. Weekends are packed because of the lake. Beautiful location. Quiet and friendly. The electric sites have 50 amps, picnic tables, bbq and fire ring. Lots of wildlife. We camped at Riana Abiquiu Lake COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Rate reflects senior discount, but was for a water and electric site and with a terrific view of the reservoir and the distant mountains. Probably the prettiest view I have ever seen at any COE campground. Bathhouse has flush toilets and nice showers. The drive west from the campground, on Route 96 over to Route 550, is quite pretty, but one which those with really big RVs or trailers may want to avoid. We camped at Riana Abiquiu Lake COE in a Motorhome.

Beautiful campground with fantastic views. Be prepared that the location is remote with no local amenities (including laundry and gas). The restrooms were clean and well kept and the park managers were friendly. There are no sites with septic hookup but there is a dump station. If you are going to stay for awhile, I would have a bucket to at least be able to dump your gray tank without unhooking. Also, even though you are staying at the lake, there is no lake access from the campground. You have to drive to the lake access down the road. We camped at Riana Abiquiu Lake COE in a Travel Trailer.

Rate is with Senior Pass. This is one of those rare finds in a campground. Absolutely beautiful, right on the lake. The camp hosts were very helpful. We could walk the trails or take day trips to many of the sites in the area. This is Georgia O'Keeffe territory. Stunning scenery everywhere you looked. Verizon phone and air signal fair to good. No OTA TV signal. We would come back here in a heartbeat! We camped at Riana Abiquiu Lake COE in a Motorhome.
