We agree with the earlier review on this being a great COE campground. As mentioned the women hosting is wonderful. We called the day before we arrived and she said if we got here early we would probably get an electric site. Which we did, site 2. We did not pickup any OTA TV, but our Verizon cell and broadband were both very good. When coming in, pull up to the booth as it is not always staffed. The host is probably to your left and directly below. It is a steep grade coming in and not something you want to park on. The CG in general is on a fairly steep side hill dropping down to the lake and sites can vary. In the Pedernal Loop (E & W), sites 2, 3, 5, 11, 12, 13, 14 & 15 are mostly level and good for MH's. In the no hookup Chama Loop sites 18, 19, 23 & 24 looked pretty good. If your over 32' I would avoid the Puerco Loop which is just past the dump station. The dump station looked like it could be fairly tight for larger RV's. We did not try it. Overall we had a very nice 2 day stay and would return. We camped at Riana Abiquiu Lake COE in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The Echo Amphitheater can be seen in an hour or two and is worth a visit. The Christ in the Desert Monastery is down a 13 mile narrow dirt road. The road is classified as 1 lane with pull outs for passing. It is an interesting drive into the canyon and the road was in pretty good condition when we drove it. Figure on 45 minutes to an hour just for the 13 mile drive each way. The Ghost Ranch was closer to Hwy 84 on a really bad gravel road. But there are some very good hikes to be had there.

This is one of the nicest, if not the nicest, COE campgrounds we have ever stayed in. The location is awesome and the scenery breathtaking. This is a magical, mystical place with tons of places to visit. First and foremost, the host is wonderful, accommodating, helpful and friendly. She truly is the best! The campground sits above Abiquiu Lake and all the sites have a great view of the lake. Sites are paved, large and well spaced with picnic table, fire pit, grill and gazebo. There are only 15 sites with electric and water and the remaining sites have no hook ups. Hiking trails are numerous and easy to follow. Because the lake was lower than usual, entrance to the swimming beach was rocky. We originally had 9 days booked but once we arrived and settled in, we extended our stay for another 5 days. If we could have stayed beyond the 14 day limit, we would have! We will return again and again. We camped at Riana Abiquiu Lake COE in a Motorhome.

Great COE campground. Most sites have a good view of the lake and are reasonably level. We're here just after Labor Day and all electric + water sites are full and a third to half of the dry sites. About a third of the sites have electric and water; those and half the dry sites have shade covers for the picnic table. Tree shade is very limited. Very helpful hosts gave a warning about rattlesnakes and to be careful with pets as well as humans. Sites can be reserved online at least 4 days before arriving. We camped at Riana Abiquiu Lake COE in a Motorhome.

This is a beautiful park with incredible views of the reservoir and mountains from almost any site. The even sites in the Pedernal (electric and water) Loop are non-reservable. However, you need to check in with the Hosts and get on the waiting list. Site number one in this loop is the best! There are many hiking trails throughout the area. Verizon service was good and excellent satellite reception. There is hiking, swimming, fishing, touring and shopping in the area. We camped at Riana Abiquiu Lake COE in a Motorhome.

A really lovely, quite campground with some incredible views. We stayed in the water/Electric area and while most all the sites were big rig friendly, most are not super level although we got pretty close. I'd recommend the back in sites over the pull through which are basically a wide spot in the road. Some of the sites are closer to each other than we'd like. We picked a site which had a close neighbor on the drivers side, but no neighbors on the passenger side so we had some privacy. Site 1, if you can book it, looked to be the best in the area. No neighbors on either side and an incredible view of the reservoir and mountains. My only complaint was that the water pressure was the worse we have encountered over the last three years. Not necessarily a bad thing though since there are no sewer hookups. Friendly staff, a gorgeous area of New Mexico with lots of outdoor things to do in the area. No access to the lake from the campground, but we were able to take the dogs swimming near the boat landing/day use area behind day use area 4. Sharp rocks though, so watch the feet. Surprisingly good AT&T hotspot coverage and clear sky for satellite reception. We camped at Riana Abiquiu Lake COE in a Motorhome.

The earth ship community in Taos is very cool, but call ahead to make tour reservations so you can visit several houses. The views from the top of Cerro Pedernal are incredible and worth the effort.

Most sites were large although some of the back-ins were a bit close together. The campground host was very friendly. She came by every day and said hello. Didn't use the boat ramp, so don't know how the facilities were there. AT&T, Verizon MiFi and Dish all worked well. Rate reflects our Senior Pass Discount. We would stay here again if in the area. Located in a beautiful area right off Hwy 84. We had reservations for a water/electric site but they also have "walk-in" sites that seemed to get filled nightly. Our site was pull-through, level and big rig friendly. We saw many campers with boats and cars at their sites and noticed that the handicapped sites were really nice. The park attendants were very friendly and helpful. There are showers and toilets but no other amenities. A dump station is available. We had good Verizon signal. The sunsets and lake view are awesome. You can have a campfire as a fire pit is available as well as a cooking grill and covered picnic table. There are even trash cans at every site that are emptied frequently. We used the campground as a base to go to Santa Fe, Taos, Chimayo, Los Alamos and Bandolier all within driving distance. It is very close to Georgia O'Keefe's Ghost Ranch and studio as well. Be aware that this is a no alcohol park. We camped at Riana Abiquiu Lake COE in a Fifth Wheel.

We spent 6 nights here enjoying the wonderful area. Our campsite was large, however because of the slope between the trailer pad and the picnic table, we could not really use our awning effectively or put down our rug. Still, the site is quite large. In addition to our trailer and truck, we had friends with a boat, truck, and tent. Everything fit fine on the campsite. We used the fire ring, but not the free-standing grill. The picnic tables are covered which was very nice in the hot weather. The bathrooms are ok, but the showers offer little privacy. The playground had been recently plowed and was quite dusty and dirty. Our 5 year old granddaughter called it "the No Fun Playground." The hosts here are just wonderful, plus we were happy to see regular patrols through of COE and Sheriff's Deputies particularly around 10pm when quiet hours start. This is technically a no alcohol campground, however no one said a word to us about having beer and wine in the evenings. I think they just want to keep the parties in control, as it is an extremely nice and quiet campground. For those who have previously visited, cell phone and data service have significantly improved. Yea!! We camped at Riana Abiquiu Lake COE in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

The swimming cove is a wonderful place to hang out, but becomes extremely crowded on summer weekends. Good rockhounding all around: look for agates. Birding is also quite good, but better in spring than full summer. The lake has pretty good fishing from a boat or kayak, but there are no rentals nearby. Also bring your fishing license as nearest place to buy one is in Espanola. For most other things, Bode's general store is very good.

While an older park, it is well maintained. Spacious sites with beautiful views of the area and lake. The lake now has a swimming area which we did not use. This is an alcohol-free Core of Engineer's campground. We enjoy a glass of wine or a beer and are not happy about this restriction. Highly recommend this park. Amazing views. Nice distance between neighbors. Great camp hosts. I called the day before to make changes in our reservation, and Venka was able to extend our stay on an another-wise full weekend.
If you have dogs, drive 1/2 mile toward the Dam Visitor's Center, but turn left into the Rio Chama Recreation area for a great place to play. We camped at Riana Abiquiu Lake COE in a Motorhome.

There are only 15 sites with electric and water. The rest you are dry camping. The views are amazing. There is a covered picnic table at each site. The good restrooms are in the Pedernal (with hookups) loop and by the dump station. The rest are just pit toilets. Our site (18) had a nice view of Pedernal and the lake. 19 and 20 would be good for that too. The campground hosts are very friendly. The shower had plenty of pressure but a real narrow stream. No privacy outside the shower for changing.
I would definitely stay here again. We camped at Riana Abiquiu Lake COE in a Travel Trailer.

Hiking. Fishing. Boating. Photography. Very scenic. Weather sketchy in spring (wind-chilly nights) with lots of boaters in summer. Very quiet in April - May. Third visit in past five years. Superb staff. Northern New Mexico is gorgeous. Georgia O'Keeffe country. The village of Abiquiu has a great store/restaurant for souvenirs and groceries. Put this camping experience on your bucket list for your trip between Santa Fe and Mesa Verde NP.

We stayed here for a few days waiting for the Walmart pharmacy in Espanola to order my husband's specialty medication. If you aren't careful you will miss it. The entrance is up on top of mountain.

The campground sits on a hillside and others down on a rocky mesa. Not a bad view in the park. Plenty of room between you and your neighbor. Covered picnic table. Has the largest playground I've seen in a government park for those of you with kids!

The bathrooms may be the only drawback. I didn't use them so can't evaluate them. We camped at Riana Abiquiu Lake COE in a Motorhome.

We enjoyed our stay here very much in spite of cold, wet weather. We reserved campsite 9 as it's a pull-through site. Actually it's more like a wide spot on the road with room for 2 RVs and tow vehicles. This was only our second time out in the new trailer, so we don't have all the bells and whistles worked out yet. We were concerned at first because the electrical box was on the wrong side, and our cord would not reach. We will certainly have an extension cord for the next trip, but the camp host kindly loaned us one. In spite of crummy weather all the electric sites were full most of the time we were there, however the non-electric loop was virtually empty. We had planned to kayak and fish, but the weather didn't permit. Instead we enjoyed the terrific birding and wildflowers while exploring the surrounding area. The dump station was full, and closed, when we arrived but open by the time we left. The campground hosts were super-friendly and helpful. I'm sure we will visit again when the weather warms up.
