We try to stay here overnight whenever possible on our way between WI an AZ. The park is all gravel but immaculate with large spaces and nice picnic tables. We thoroughly enjoy the owner and her permanent residents that we have met. She has a visiting time every night from 4:30 to 6:00 on her covered patio, or this night in her large sunroom since it was too hot outside. We don't have a pet, but she has a beautiful fenced area where pets can run free. We've never had time to stay more than one night or visit the surrounding sites, but some day we hope to stay a little longer. We camped at Caballo Lake RV Park in a Motorhome.

This park was perfect for our needs. It is flat, very clean and well landscaped for a desert park, with full hook-ups, spacious sites and picnic tables. The owner holds a "happy hour" every afternoon for those inclined to socialize. She is efficient and friendly and works hard to maintain this charming park. Lack of toilets and showers is a non-issue for RVs, but eliminates tent campers. There are no activities for children so the park was quiet. There is a nice dog park with exercise equipment, but they are strict about cleaning up after pets, so it too is clean. We stayed there in a MH. In addition to the $15 nightly fee, our electric bill for 2 nights was $5. The park backs up to Caballo Lake State Park which provides hiking, fishing and boating opportunities. The mountain views were stunning. We camped at Caballo Lake RV Park in a Motorhome.

This is a hidden jewel of a park that is immaculate. Owner has a cocktail hour every night! She furnishes snacks. No amenities and it's a long hike to the lake. Great dog run. But for an over night stop or a few days R & R, it can't be beat. We camped at Caballo Lake RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Caballo Lake Park is cool. This park is just what a serious RV'r looks for. Clean, big sites, no bathrooms/showers and a great camp host/owner. The price is just a bonus. One night, 50 amp, $19.75. Just off the Interstate but didn't hear a thing. The owner lady puts on a Happy Hour at 4:30. Bring your own and she does up some snackies. We camped at Caballo Lake RV Park in a Motorhome.

I really liked this park. The desert landscaping was beautiful and everything was very clean and well maintained. TV was standard for southern New Mexico with 15 ota channels. Wifi was adequate but could slow down at times. Owner's pride shows on this one and would stay here as first choice if ever in area again. We camped at Caballo Lake RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

A beautiful, serene, small, but well organized campsite. All pull thrus with room for your length and slides. Visit made even more pleasant by the owner & her evening get togethers. Great view of Caballo Mountains. Partial or peekaboo views of Caballo Lake. Clean. Nice group of people. Very reasonable rates. We loved, loved it! We camped at Caballo Lake RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Elephant Butte was beautiful. Hot Spring spa's in Truth or Consequences was only a 20 min drive. Nearby Hatch was a great place to buy your chili's while not forgetting to eat at Sparkys. Also ate at Hot Stuff in T&C and had pretty good food, great atmosphere and wonderful waiter.

Great little park with a friendly atmosphere. The hostess has a happy hour (byob) every evening from 4:30 to 6:00ish where you can sit under the main house's shaded patio cover and meet the park's other guests if you are inclined to. Park is well kept and very clean. Site surfaces are gravel. View of lake and adjacent mountains is beautiful. It's been a pleasure to be here while we enjoyed the Hatch Chile Festival. We camped at Caballo Lake RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $4.00
Overall Rating:

This is a rather good place to stay, adjacent to a lake, during the week days. The campgrounds tend to be noisy and crowded on the weekends by boaters and family groups. RV campers tend to occupy the non-reservation sites and the reservation sites are primarily unoccupied and available for one night at a time. Supposedly, one night at a time.

The office staff becomes highly irritated when a camper wants to stay in a reservation site without a reservation. The staff fails to indicate, which sites are available. So much easier to stay in the air conditioned office and fool arrivals the reservation sites are occupied. Still, overall, an enjoyable place to stay with excellent views of the mountains, and quiet sounds of an isolated location off I-25. We camped at Caballo Lake RV Park in a Motorhome.

My husband and I had been planning on visiting this RV park for several months. The website shows the lake being much closer to the RV park and when we arrived we were very disappointed to see the lake was quite far away. The owner stated we could walk to the lake but we'd have to watch out for snakes, including rattlesnakes. I estimated it was about a 1/2 mile walk to the lake. The owner started to seem irritated with us right away because we were expecting the lake to be close by so we could fish and swim. My husband asked if there was a beach area where we could swim and and the owner stated that "if we wanted a beach we should go to Galveston!" Despite her rudeness we were going to stay but changed our minds as she became more agitated with us. I would hate to see how she acted at the "Happy Hour" they have every evening! She said there were lots of rattlesnakes in the park and they had killed several in the past week. She also stated that we should not walk our pet on a leash because wild pigs and coyotes come into the park and if they didn't get our pet, the eagles would get them. She said a visitor had picked up a toy on the ground and there was a baby rattlesnake under it! The park itself is very nice looking but I would not recommend staying here due to the rude owner. I had read some other reviews on this park and other's had commented on how rude she was. We have stayed in many RV Parks and never have encountered a host who was so unfriendly. There is also no shade in the park so it can be very hot. As for Wi-Fi, after we had parked our rig, she stated that we "might" get Wi-Fi in that spot. So we moved to another space and she said we might get it there! We'd had enough so my husband told her we were not going to stay and she said "if you want a beach, go to Tahiti or the west coast!" Those "happy hours" they have every evening must be a real hoot with this rude woman as host. Take my advice and STAY AWAY from this place! We camped at Caballo Lake RV Park in a Motorhome.

No paved roads, no amenities, just one of the best parks we have stayed it because its uniqueness. It's a small park in the middle of nowhere where the owner has flowers, fountains, every rock outlining the sites in perfect place and a personality that doesn't quit. And then a cocktail hour every night...even it rains she invites people into her house. And she will tell you she finally raised the rate to $15. a night after everybody said her rates were too low. We will definitely be back for a longer stay next time. We camped at Caballo Lake RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

This was a wonderful rural place to stay. The electricity is added on at the end of stay at .14KWH. The roads were gravel but in good shape and the spaces were fairly level. The owner was very nice and friendly and had a lot of knowledge about the area and its history. We only stayed one night on our way to Albuquerque, but are considering going back for a longer period and explore and fish. We were on our way to an AKC dog show with quite a few dogs, but they are very pet friendly. The hookups were very convenient and easy to access. We had a pull through in which we had no problem in remaining hooked up with our 56' long rig. This was definitely a great value for the money. We camped at Caballo Lake RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Lake very close and the owner said ghost towns & old mining sites are all around the area. Not much of any shopping close by as it is very rural and quiet.

At $15 (plus electric) a night, this is a quaint and quiet place to stay! The owner hosted happy hour every evening from 4:30-6ish and we absolutely loved getting the chance to meet our neighbors. The wifi was good when a larger rig wasn't blocking our reception. It seemed that the further you were from the single emitter, the worse the reception was. We would have stayed much longer than three days if there were showers on site.

Lot spacing was nearby with some shade. Site surface was gravel/sand and featured a picnic table. We camped at Caballo Lake RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Close enough for a day trip to White Sands National Monument to the east and spitting distance from Truth or Consequences to the north. We highly recommend going into town and visiting the Black Cat Bookstore, having lunch at Latitude 33 and spending some time soaking at Riverbend Hot Springs. Cannot say enough good things about our hostess who also organized a wine tasting at a nearby winery.

Good daily rate but watch plus electric. Poor WiFi, cell was 4G, and no cable. Happy hour is interesting and no politics during 4-6.

The owner was helpful and looks after everything. Good place to lay back and visit with the long term Rvers. Gravel and level and room for big rig. We camped at Caballo Lake RV Park in a Motorhome.
