What you'd expect from a well run desert campground. The misses were the wi-fi (plenty of signal but intermittent connection to the Internet) & inadequate air conditioning in the combined game room/laundry. Our site was an extra long pull-thru set up as two "back-ins" (A & B). Effectively a pull-thru if you book the A site and show up before the B folks. We camped at Carlsbad RV Park and Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Book ahead for a ranger guided caving tour at Caverns Natl. Park. Early morning hikes in Guadalupe Natl. Park are doable in summer, remember they're on Texas time so set out an hour earlier from Carlsbad.

Overall Rating:

Showed up without a reservation in early May and they were ready to turn us away until they noticed our rig and had 1 site available - back in, 30 amp, so we took it. Park in undergoing renovations for more sites, otherwise is very full, mostly long term folk. Some areas are thickly populated, shared utility poles not leaving much room for opposing slides never mind awnings before you're touching the next rig. There are some spacious sites in the back edge, some are used as doubles though. Our back-in was gravel and while it backed to the highway, was a far enough distance away to cut down on road noise. We just wanted a quick one night stay so we didn't check other bath or laundry. We camped at Carlsbad RV Park and Campground in a Truck Camper.

Overall Rating:

Because of the booming local oil industry business, the local parks are able to stay mostly full with long time residents while maintaining a limited number of spots for visitors at an elevated nightly rate. I doubt this park will have space in the summer - book ahead. We shared a pull thru space which meant we backed out when we left. Location was quiet. Reasonable place to take the dog, good power and close enough to Carlsbad Caverns. If only staying for the Caverns, might consider staying in Whites City instead. It would save you a drive if visiting later in the year when the bats are flying. We camped at Carlsbad RV Park and Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

A long term resident cautioned me to stay off US 285 south of Carlsbad due to the number of accidents. We had approached via SR 128 and were surprised by the number of heavy vehicles we encountered supporting the drilling work. While many people see the bats leaving the Caverns, you should get up early to watch the bats re-enter the caverns - you will never forget the sounds of their wings vibrating as they dive into the opening.

Old KOA. The indoor pool was nice and location is good. It is clean with mostly long term RVs. There was road noise. Staff was very nice. It's like most the RV parks in the area, gravel, sunny and not very pretty. Our wifi was great but we were right next to antenna. We camped at Carlsbad RV Park and Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

Good solid campground close just outside of the town of Carlbad and close to the Caverns. As others have mentioned this part has many full time workers and just a few transient sites. Strongly recommend you make reservations a few weeks in advance regardless of the time of year - especially if you are a big rig as sites are limited. Transient sites are back to back so it is possible you will be staring at the rear end of another coach. But since we were here to see the Caverns, we didn't care. Pricey for what you get but it is a supply and demand issue here. We will stay here again in our Big Rig motorhome. We camped at Carlsbad RV Park and Campground in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

The campsite has a very level gravel lot, plenty long enough for the trailer and car, and the interior roads are gravel, easy to navigate except for the speed bumps. We had an end spot and had two patios and a picnic table. Some sites are tandem, which makes it a back in if the there is a "neighbor", but there are plenty of drive through spots. The indoor pool is closed indefinitely. The bathrooms are clean but are really old and are in desperate need of an update. There is a huge community room with arcade games, pool table, small kitchenette, TV, and couch. All are pretty old and dated and need a remodel. It is very quiet. I think it's a bit pricey considering the quality, however, location, location, location, as it's near Carlsbad Caverns. Also, the staff was very accommodating as we arrived well before check-in and they let us get in our site. We camped at Carlsbad RV Park and Campground in a Motorhome.

We stayed one night and found people friendly and helpful. There was a small dog run. Our pull through was a double, meaning you either had to pull in and back out or visa versa. It was a little tight driving through but navigable. We camped at Carlsbad RV Park and Campground in a Motorhome.

All gravel sites & roads with a concrete paver patio and a picnic table. Full hookups including cable TV & Wi-fi. Cable had fair reception. They offer a heated indoor pool but it was not open during our stay. A quiet park at night. 28 miles to Carlsbad Caverns which is a must visit. Overall Rating:

The sites are long, with two in a row, but plenty of room for our 40' with tow. It was nice when we got there that the other party wasn't there, as they were behind us and we would have had to back in. As it was, we could just pull through to our spot. They were nice level spots, little picnic table. No division between sites, so little privacy, but your picnic table was not next to any other picnic tables. There were two dog parks on each end of the park, which was nice to let your dog off leash. Place was clean, quiet and nice staff. We had decent wifi. Easy in and out, and level sites. We camped at Carlsbad RV Park and Campground in a Motorhome.

Stayed here after visiting Carlsbad Caverns. Just a short drive from the National Park with easy access. Roads and sites are gravel and level. Older park but well maintained. Very quiet at night with little road noise. But...some of the residents are workers who leave a 5am in their large trucks. Friendly staff made for a welcoming atmosphere. Would stay here again. Overall Rating:

Average campground that was good for an overnight stop while visiting Carlsbad Caverns. Staff was very friendly and check-in was seamless. The park itself is a former KOA with very tightly packed sites, filled mostly with long term residents working in the area. Our site was a level, graveled back-in, just long enough for us, wide and well spaced from adjacent sites. It was near the front of the park, close to the road, so noise was a factor, but it quieted down at night. All hook-ups were conveniently located and worked well. The campground was kept clean and tidy, with nice amenities including an indoor pool, though we did not use it. Camp store was sparse and mostly souvenirs. Bath house was clean but in need of renovations. While clean, the showers were covered in iron water stains. Overall a good campground at a good price for visiting the area. We camped at Carlsbad RV Park and Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Closest park to the Caverns. Older park. Sites and road are gravel. Somewhat dusty, it is NM. We had some shade on our site, not all sites have shade. Could not get wifi on our two day stay, even though we mentioned it to the front desk on several occasions. Had a nice picnic table on our site. Lots of permanent residents, look like oilfield workers, so some traffic early in the morning. Covered pool was OK, clean. Showers and restrooms were clean, but old and could use some TLC. Had a convenient dump station, with flush water, near the office, as we had a site with only 30 amp and water service. Overall satisfied. Here for 3 days to see the caverns. Staff very friendly. Led us to our site, G4b. We were nose to butt on this long site. Didn't use their WiFi or cable. Grounds are gravel with a few trees and some grass in the one dog park we used. Because this part of the US is so dry and windy don't expect to keep your rig clean. We would stay here again. Located on the South Side of Carlsbad this old KOA campground has about 20 to 30% long term residents. It's a gravel parking lot with grass around the perimeter. WiFi crashes about every hour, but a strong signal even at the back of the CG when it works. Indoor pool, horse shoe pits, playground and two dog exercise areas. We picked this park as it was generally close to the Caverns, and Wal-Mart (shopping). Staff is very friendly and accommodating helping to find us a space in a full park when we had to change our reservation. The park is quiet, sites very clean (gravel), and hook-ups easy to connect to with threaded sewer drains. Water pressure is strong and a regulator is a must. It gets a little cramped when full, as pull-throughs are long and get doubled-up end-to-end. We camped at Carlsbad RV Park and Campground in a Motorhome.
