What you'd expect from a well run desert campground. The misses were the wi-fi (plenty of signal but intermittent connection to the Internet) & inadequate air conditioning in the combined game room/laundry. Our site was an extra long pull-thru set up as two "back-ins" (A & B). Effectively a pull-thru if you book the A site and show up before the B folks. We camped at Carlsbad RV Park and Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Book ahead for a ranger guided caving tour at Caverns Natl. Park. Early morning hikes in Guadalupe Natl. Park are doable in summer, remember they're on Texas time so set out an hour earlier from Carlsbad.

Overall Rating:

Average campground that was good for an overnight stop while visiting Carlsbad Caverns. Staff was very friendly and check-in was seamless. The park itself is a former KOA with very tightly packed sites, filled mostly with long term residents working in the area. Our site was a level, graveled back-in, just long enough for us, wide and well spaced from adjacent sites. It was near the front of the park, close to the road, so noise was a factor, but it quieted down at night. All hook-ups were conveniently located and worked well. The campground was kept clean and tidy, with nice amenities including an indoor pool, though we did not use it. Camp store was sparse and mostly souvenirs. Bath house was clean but in need of renovations. While clean, the showers were covered in iron water stains. Overall a good campground at a good price for visiting the area. We camped at Carlsbad RV Park and Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Carlsbad Caverns is about 20 miles southwest of here, and should not be missed. We had an excellent dinner in town at the Yellow Brix Restaurant.

Closest park to the Caverns. Older park. Sites and road are gravel. Somewhat dusty, it is NM. We had some shade on our site, not all sites have shade. Could not get wifi on our two day stay, even though we mentioned it to the front desk on several occasions. Had a nice picnic table on our site. Lots of permanent residents, look like oilfield workers, so some traffic early in the morning. Covered pool was OK, clean. Showers and restrooms were clean, but old and could use some TLC. Had a convenient dump station, with flush water, near the office, as we had a site with only 30 amp and water service. Overall satisfied. Temperature rose to 106 F while we were there. Try to get a site with some shade. We have. Small AC and it was barely able to keep up.

Most sites are pull-through on gravel. Full hook-ups including cable TV. A few trees. Management leads you to your site which is appreciated. They have an organized library of DVD movies that you can rent for free. We camped at Carlsbad RV Park and Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

Stayed two nights to visit the caverns. Full of children riding bikes, even as I was backing into the gravel site they were darting behind me. Staff was there and ran them away while I was backing in. A staff member will guide you into your site, due to insurance regulations. Our site had grass pads on each side of our site, which pet owners used as the deposit area for doggie landmines. There's a small turtle enclosure to view their reptile pets. The covered pool is small and full of unsupervised children running wild. Located between the caverns and downtown Carlsbad. The staff was very, very helpful. May or may not stay again. We camped at Carlsbad RV Park and Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

This is a bare bones RV campground. The staff was exceptional and the best part of the park. The sites barely have gravel and only a few trees throughout. You can see that they are trying to make some improvements as some of the sites have newly placed patios at the site. If you can use a "back in" site, you might have a little grass, and, as I said, some of sites have patios, but you are still pretty much in the dirt. Its hard to rate this place. Carlsbad is a dry dusty place it self. The campground is a very dry dusty place too, and I doubt that could ever change. There are a lot of oil field workers that also stay there full time, but.did not seem to create any issues. They were in regular RV trailers, too. It was close to Carlsbad Caverns, which was our reason for being there. Would I stay again? Maybe, as I don't think there are that many choices. But it was so difficult to keep anything clean. Price reflects Good Sam, and I think for the place, it was a bit pricey, but the park was pretty full. We camped at Carlsbad RV Park and Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

Park has good interior gravel roads and flat graveled spaces. Sites were wide enough to park next to our trailer. Park is far enough away from the highway that road noise was not an issue. Restrooms and showers were clean, although we didn’t use them. Campground staff and management were very helpful about local information. This is the closest RV park to Carlsbad Caverns NP that is still in the city of Carlsbad. The cable TV and Wi-Fi were excellent. The office also has an extensive DVD rental library, and the first rental is complimentary. The nightly rate was $37.50 which included a 10% AAA discount plus taxes. There a lot of long term residents in the park, but that is because of the oil and gas resurgence in the area. We would stay here again if we return to the Carlsbad area. It's obvious the new owners are trying very hard to upgrade this park. We did not partake in the recreation room nor did we use the pool or restrooms. We were mainly here to sight see and this was an adequate park to do so. We would stay here again! We camped at Carlsbad RV Park and Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Physically what you'd expect in the desert. Not very shady but the trees they do have help. Professionally the staff is very nice and helpful. They are addressing electrical issues and we had no problems. Park is convenient to town and 25 miles /30 minutes to Caverns visitor center. Small but sharp stickers off the graveled roads are an unavoidable problem so stay on the gravel. Dog run on west side of park is much better than run on south side. Overall Rating:

The campground is clean with a clean pool and decent restrooms but very dusty. We were assigned a site that had a small shade tree and halfway through our first day, the electricity went out. We were told that it was a "known problem" with that row of campers and given a new spot. There were plenty of other spots we could have been assigned initially without being given one that had a known electrical problem. The management was efficient but curt and borderline rude. We camped at Carlsbad RV Park and Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Called and made reservations and was not told the pool was closed...very disappointing as we were traveling with kids. The Wi-Fi was poor, did not work most of the time. Site was level, dirt, and the water pressure was good. Thinking I would check somewhere else next time I am in Carlsbad. We camped at Carlsbad RV Park and Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

We stayed here over spring break in a travel trailer to view Carlsbad Caverns. The park is clean and taken care of. The sites are right on top of each other and you are packed in like sardines. The pool was closed for repairs which was part of why we chose this place. The owners were extremely nice and helpful. We got a free DVD rental for checking in, they had 800 movies to choose from. The park is about 20 miles from the Caverns. The cable was okay and other utilities fine. I am not sure it was worth $38.00 a night. We would stay here again but will do more looking first. This was an old KOA. It has seen better days but it is clean, safe and reasonably priced. The sites are small but they are all pull thru and easy to get into. It is also convenient to the caverns and to town. It has a nice rec room, lots of DVD's, and a pool. The staff is good. I have stayed there before and I would stay there again. There also is a nice playground. There is an RV repair place right next to the campground. We camped at Carlsbad RV Park and Campground in a Travel Trailer.
