This is a nice simple park surrounded by pine trees at over 8,000 ft. A nice cool break from the heat below. Spaces are set so it feels private at each one. Sites are fairly level pull throughs. No trees at the sites. But the temps are cool (60s) for summer. We camped at Scenic Canyon RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

The Lodge in Cloudcroft; Solar Observatory.

Our rate is based on the monthly rate of $350. In addition we will have to pay for our electricity. This park is very nice and suits our needs. We would happily return next year, however, the park is for sale and may not be the same under new ownership. The hookups are fine and the location is lovely. The park is about a mile from the main road so there is no road noise, just the sounds of nature in the surrounding forest. We saw six deer run across the adjoining meadow. The other folks staying in the park are friendly. Only improvements that we would like to see are more shady areas and an on-site laundry. Also it is not that the restrooms and showers are not clean, they do not exist. Your rig must be fully equipped to stay in this park. We camped at Scenic Canyon RV Park in a Motorhome.

The owner was accommodating and pleasant. The park is secluded and quiet. The grounds were nicely maintained. The elevation keeps you cool. We camped at Scenic Canyon RV Park in a Motorhome.

If you're tired of hearing highway noise at almost every campground you go to and just want some quiet and the chance to view wildlife: then this is the place for you. No amenities or activities (which is fine with me) but you'll be camping in a breathtaking valley surrounded by pine trees and incredible wildlife. In the evening you can hear the elk (we've heard they sometimes walk within viewing distance of the campsites). Lots of deer and birds that come to the campsite. So tranquil and serene. If you don't mind a 10 minute drive, you can be in the center of Cloudcroft: a very quaint town with great gift shops and eateries. It's about 1/2 hour down the mountain to major shopping in Alamogordo so try to stock up before making the trek. Also be aware that many things you buy in Alamogordo will expand (or burst) by the time you get back up to Cloudcroft because of the change in altitude, so be prepared and keep watch on things. The only reason I can't give it higher than an 8 is that the water pressure was very low (almost unusable), sites were very tight and close together and the entrance to the campground is not for the faint of heart (very narrow and steep). The only more appropriate name for this campground would be "Starry Canyon" because you can see more stars than almost anywhere (including the milky way). One more thing to note: be aware that the main way to get here is via 82. From Alamogordo, it's a 17 mile climb up the mountain and could be difficult in a gasser if you're close to tow capacity. I personally wouldn't want to leave going this way if I had a gasser because going back down looked like it could be very difficult without air brakes. It's over 14 miles of 6% grade or more. That being said, 82 to and from Artesia is a much better route if you don't have a diesel with air brakes. We will definitely be back! (We just hope the water pressure is better next time.) We camped at Scenic Canyon RV Park in a Motorhome.

Nice secluded park in a beautiful valley. Many return / seasonal campers were were very friendly. Sites are small and cramped. Owner was very helpful. As their website states, this is an adult, quiet park. I would stay there again. We camped at Scenic Canyon RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Nice quiet park to relax and get away from the summer heat. The park is in a small valley surrounded by pines. However there are no trees at the campsites. The WIFI worked well. I had no cell phone service with AT&T, but other campers told me Verizon had service. You have to go into Alamogordo for major shopping and groceries. If I came back to this area, I would definitely stay here again. We camped at Scenic Canyon RV Park in a Motorhome.

When we drove up to the park, we were somewhat disappointed with the layout of the sites. The pull-through sites were strung along a narrow dirt road, rigs end-to-end but with some room between. If there were large rigs on either end of the site, a large rig may have trouble pulling in. There was little privacy. We were glad there were only 15 sites. The setting is very pretty, near national forest land, but rigs are out in the open. The hook-ups worked fine and there was cable and phone hook-ups for longer term folks. All sites but five, contained folks that had been there all summer. There is WiFi, with a strong connection, available for $3/day. There is a dumpster but no showers, office, playground, pool, etc. We stayed three nights and have to admit, the place really GREW on us. We could see why many of the campers return each year and spend the summer there. It was really quiet and laid-back and relaxing. The campers were SO friendly and the owners accommodating. I did not see any kids - seemed to be all adults that were QUIET. The male owner had a cynical sense of humor and he was a little odd, but that was ok. It is convenient to Cloudcroft, Ruidoso, and Alamogordo yet you felt like you were away from civilization. We ended up really enjoying our experience there and will definitely will return. I think this is the best campground with hook-ups in the area. I would have given it a higher rating if the layout of the sites were designed differently. We camped at Scenic Canyon RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.
