Great place. Nice trails. Hot showers available at the visitor center. Most sites are first-come first-served but some are reservable. Only drawback is the is no place to dump your holding tanks here. You can drive back into Deming and dump them for free at Valero but that's about a 50 mile round trip. Would definitely stay here again but would limit it to three or four days. We camped at City of Rocks State Park in a Motorhome.

Internal roads are dirt and winding but easily driven with a big rig, sites are dirt, most were not level and could be a challenge to find a suitable site for a big rig. There are some pull-throughs, ours was level, some sites would not be satellite friendly. Staff were volunteers and not overly helpful, you have to go find a site and then fill out a self registration form (with exact payment amount) and put it in the vault. Hint, pick up the form prior to finding your site so you can fill it out on-site and then walk it back. T-Mobile/Tracfone cell service was non-existent on the North side and fair on the South side. The park was quiet. We would stay here again. We camped at City of Rocks State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We went here on the suggestion of some friends and didn't have a reservation (strongly suggested, especially if you want electrical). This is such a cool place, it's worth the 30 mile ride from Deming. We called on a whim and got an electrical spot for night(There's about a dozen or so, some reservable, some 1st come 1st served). VZW service was 2-3 bars LTE. Water pressure was good. We camped at City of Rocks State Park in a Motorhome.

The nearby Faywood hot springs are only a few minutes away if you want to have a good soak. Definately plan to hike around the rocks and observe a sunrise or sunset.

City of Rocks is such a great park I can't imagine anyone disliking it. It's located in the most spectacular setting amid fabulous giant rock formations which can be explored to your heart's content. Although the hook-up sites (electric and water only) are out in the open and lined up all in a row, the non-hookup sites are tucked into all the nooks and crannies of the rocks, offering plenty of opportunities for privacy and visual delight. The only downside to picking your site is that the access to it can be bumpy and confusing. A few more directional signs would be most welcome!. The non-hookup sites are especially great for those of us with smaller rigs or tent campers. Big rig owners will most likely prefer the hook-up sites. Take your time and give the campground a thorough look-see if you can before you pick your spot. Most of the non-hookup sites are first come-first served. We arrived on a Sunday and were surprised to find most of the sites occupied. The strange thing was that we didn't see any tents or RVs at a lot of them. Turns out that many families come out for the day and by paying the day-use fee they can occupy a camp site. So if you don't find anything, ask the folks occupying a site if they're just there for the day. You may be able to park at the Visitors Center until they leave and you can have the site. Not sure if that's allowed or not, but it would be worth asking about at the Visitors Center. There are clean vault toilets around the campground as well as water spigots. Flush toilets and showers are available up by the Visitors Center. There are several nice trails to hike as well as a little botanical garden to stroll through. The Visitors Center is staffed with friendly knowledgeable folks. The only thing this park lacks is a dump station so be prepared to dump your tanks some. We camped at City of Rocks State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We LOVED this park! Very limited hook-ups. We boondocked within the rocks, completely private. Reasonably level in a pull-through. This is a magical, magical place with a night sky that is nothing like anything we have every experienced. Nice bike and walking trails. Roughly halfway between Silver City and Carlsbad. We camped at City of Rocks State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

While there is a very nice visitor center, there are no other services of civilization within a 45 minute drive. Come stocked for your stay. Only allowed to run generator from 7 to 10 pm (although given the time of year we didn't need to use it). Showers have very poor water pressure and water is quite alkaline. Can be windy and dusty.

We camped here a couple of years ago in an electric site. We now have a generator and came back to try a dry camping site among the rocks. It was our first experience boondocking and it was awesome! The campsites among the rocks are so beautiful and secluded. The night skies are so dark so you can see so many stars. There are so many rocks to climb on and many hiking/biking trails. The staff is very nice and friendly. Verizon coverage actually worked here; I was surprised by that because it didn't work well when we went 2 years ago. It wasn't a strong signal, but usable. For our first dry camping experience, this place was perfect. We camped at City of Rocks State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Stayed 2 nights and would have enjoyed a longer visit. We reserved a site with water and electric, which is $14 instead of $10 for boondocking. Roomy spaces, with covered picnic table and a fire ring/grill. The scenery is amazing, and the clear night skies are stunning. I thought our Arizona skies were awesome, and the New Mexico skies are equally as imposing. The place was busy for midweek in March, but never felt crowded. Only negative is the way some motorists think they are on city streets the way they drive. It can be dusty, so going at a good clip really stirs things up. This park is a real gem. We would stay again and again. We camped at City of Rocks State Park in a Motorhome.

All elec sites were taken on our first night, so we dry camped at a developed site ( table, fire ring, parking space). Next morning an elec site was vacated and we moved to it. We were two campers traveling together and asked and received permission for both to stay in one site. Pymt required for each. No problem w/ that. Stayed three nights. Very quiet and restful. Scenery is second to none. Will definitely be back. We camped at City of Rocks State Park in a Truck Camper.

Stayed in amazing sites right in the rocks. No services at these sites but there are other sites with water and electric. My major complaint was no dump station at all and the fact that the park isn't near much of anything. The park was extremely clean and the staff was very nice. Absolutely no ATT service and Verizon (without booster) was 3G. Lot spacing was spacious with some shade. Site surface was dirt and featured a fire ring, picnic table and patio. We camped at City of Rocks State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a special place. What a unique sight and to think you camp within the rocks! The kids had a great time exploring within all of the monoliths, cracks, and crevices. The visitor Center was very informative and the staff was awesome. Very clean, very scenic, very cool. Every night we got to listen to the Great Horned Owls hooting away. We camped at City of Rocks State Park in a Tent Trailer.

We haven't spent any time in New Mexico before and decided to stop here for a few days to check it out.

It is a ways from Deming, out in the middle of nowhere and beautiful. An unexpected surprise to be driving among the flats when you go around a bend a see these unique rock formations.

We checked in and found our reserved spot. We had selected a hook up site, water and electric, no sewer or dump station on the property. The ranger station is small but has quite a bit of information on the park and the critters, plants and how the "city of rocks" was formed. The campground host was nice but not too forthcoming with any information.

They have 4 vault toilets located throughout the campground. There is a bathroom/shower house near the check in that is open from 7:30 am to 9:00 pm at night. They close it at night so that their well can refill.

The hook up sites are right as you come in but the rest of the sites are nestled within the rocks, very cool spots, with some great views.

They are multiple hikes within and around the campground as well as an observation point. They also have a small desert botanical garden. There is a group site available for rent as well.

There is an observatory on the property, unfortunately they didn't offer any programs while we were here.

Lots of bunnies and jack rabbits as well as a large variety of birds.

Coming in on a Sunday was wonderful, very few campers, very quiet and relaxing. We loved being able to look at the stars at night, no light pollution here.

From this campground you can explore Las Cruces, Old Mesilla, Deming, Silver City, Gila Cliff Dwellings and if you have your passport, you can even do a day trip into Palomas Mexico.

This has been one of our better stops on our journeys! Would definitely stay here again if coming through the area. We camped at City of Rocks State Park in a Motorhome.

Beautiful setting next to large field of eroded boulders and huge pillars of rock. Far from anywhere. I was looking forward to seeing the Milky Way in all it's glory but forgot there was a full moon that night, which was so bright it washed out all but the brightest stars. Great place. We'd stay here again except my wife hated the shower, which was a timed push button with almost no time between required pushes. Newer and very clean state-park style bathhouse, i.e. cold when it's cold outside and hot when it's hot outside. But the location can't be beat. We camped at City of Rocks State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Remote area, half way between Deming and Silver City. Very peaceful, quiet. Unique rock formations which you can walk thru and around at your leisure. We camped two nights with hookups and two nights dry camping ($10.00). Spaces with hook ups nice and level. Dry camping, not a lot of level spaces if you have a big rig but plenty of nice spots to choose from for shorter rigs. Enjoyed our stay, would probably not in middle of summer. We camped at City of Rocks State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

There are two sections to the park. Full hookup sites are located close to the Visitors Center and are standard parallel sites. The section with no hookups is widely spread out. Not all spaces are totally level. Nice hiking trails, really clean toilets, beautiful night sky and funny shaped rocks. $10.00 for without hookups and $14.00-$18.00 with hookups.
