This CG has new owners and a new name, The Camp @ Cloudcroft. The couple managing the place are extremely helpful, and really go out of their way. I was on the maiden voyage w my new travel trailer, not sure I could have gotten in my site, and set up w/o their help. Nice clean restrooms w showers, laundry room, and activity pavilion, few camp supplies and ice available in office. Site was pretty level, cable TV worked well, they have WIFI, but we did not use it. Most sites have some shade cover, and all have a picnic table. Small stream to trout fish, must have NM fishing license. This CG has many returning summer campers, some of the sites are a bit close together, having been here during past summers I know almost everyone travels w their dogs. Leash rules were enforced on this trip, but I have had problems with this in the past under previous management. As the CG has added more sites, the area for dog walking has shrunk, that would be the one thing I think could be improved on. Mayhill is a one horse town, and eating options are few. Mayhill cafe used to close early, but now open till 7 pm. Great food, excellent bakery, all at very reasonable prices. We are returning to "Camp @ Cloudcroft" for the month of August. We camped at Rio Penasco R.V. Camp in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Enjoy all the wonderful activities the CG offers. Nice restaurant 15 miles back in Cloudcroft called The Lodge, or take a drive to Ruidoso there is a wonderful restaurant opened Tue-Sat called Michael J's. I highly recommend it.

Very friendly campground owners & hosts, extremely friendly group of campers willing to help. There is a pavilion with summer activities and music. Also a propane campfire that is legal during burn ban. Campground is open, even though the forest is closed. The restrooms are spotless, a nice laundry with almost new washers. The office has a cell phone network booster and there is cell service for Verizon. Good Wi-Fi service. The Rio Penasco River runs on the south side of the campground and there, they say some fish for trout in the small river. We saw deer and turkey near the river. This is a hidden treasure. We camped at Rio Penasco R.V. Camp in a Motorhome.

This is a beautiful place in the Sacramento mountains. (It is up for sale as of this writing also.) Full hook-ups with plenty of room. Shady spots or full sun - choose for the appropriate time of year. This park is open year round while others nearby close for the winter. The restrooms are spotless. The family owners are friendly and helpful. The river beside the park can be fished. No cell phone service at this spot in the mountains, but good cable television. There is a covered pavilion, propane available, and plenty to explore nearby. We camped at Rio Penasco R.V. Camp in a Fifth Wheel.

Nice small Park in the trees. Unisex individual bathrooms w/ shower which are very nicely kept. $20 was the price with full hookups. Will stay here again. We camped at Rio Penasco R.V. Camp in a Travel Trailer.

Great mountain park, well run by friendly owners who are very responsive. WiFi works great and they have an excellent cable TV lineup. The folks here are religious and invite you to attend but there is no pressure at all. This place fills up in the summer mainly with senior citizen Texans escaping the summer heat. There is no pool, no meeting "room" and no cell service unless you buy a trucker's antennae and set up a special connection. Verizon signals do come through at the top of the main drive which is up on a small hill next to Highway 130. There is a small creek next to it called Rio Penasco where you can fish. There is an open air covered pavilion complete with stage and kitchen facilities where everyone congregates for the many summer activities. We went for 2 weeks and stayed a full month. Its a good central location for day trips of an hour in any direction. Would definitely return. Weekly rate is $100 and Monthly rate is $240. The Laundry Room has a game table where nightly card or domino games are played once the weather turns cooler. Propane is available at a competitive price. As others have said, there is no full fledged grocery store until you get to either Alamogordo or else Artesia. We camped at Rio Penasco R.V. Camp in a Travel Trailer.

This is a nice quiet campground. It bills itself as having a Christian atmosphere and discourages open consumption of alcohol. However, there is no overt display of religious symbols or activities that might bother some people. The owners are very friendly and always ready to help. There are some seasonal residents but there are no cluttered and messy sites seen at other parks that have annual and seasonal sites. We stayed here four nights because they have very dark and clear nightime skies; a must for my astrophotography. Unfortunately, it rained each night we were there and I did not get any photos. We would stay with them again and think that we got a lot of value for the campground fee. We camped at Rio Penasco R.V. Camp in a Motorhome.
