We have been traveling fulltime with our kids for about 15 months now, and this is definitely the most beautiful campsite we have ever had. The views from our site were spectacular! It's about a 30 minute drive to Santa Fe and 60 minutes to Albuquerque which was a little inconvenient, but it was worth it to stay in such a beautiful place. Tent Rocks National Monument is very close by and was an awesome hike. Verizon coverage here is great! AT&T was just okay. Check-in was a little weird. They didn't give me any maps or information, so I just had to look at the map in the office to find the way to our site. There is no laundry here which was also inconvenient, but there's a laundromat down the street not too far away. We would definitely be back just to experience the beauty of this area. We camped at Cochiti Lake COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Not impressed with this COE campground, especially compared to several other NM state parks we have enjoyed. Buffalo Grove loop is mostly big rig friendly size wise, but not so much when it comes to being level...expected much better from a COE campground! Unless you're into water sports, there is not a lot to do here...even if you are, the lake is fairly small, but I guess it depends on what you're use to. So, why stay here? About 1/2 between Albuquerque and Santa Fe with easy drives and we wanted to explore those areas. Dome Wilderness area (dog friendly) nearby for some decent hiking as well as Bandelier National Monument (NOT dog friendly). We camped at Cochiti Lake COE in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Tent Rocks is a must see (NOT dog friendly), hike the slot canyon trail to the top. Drive and explore the Turquoise Trail, especially the drive to Sandia Crest!

Huge water/electric level sites that are beautifully maintained, although they are facing away from the lake. We fixed this by pulling in backwards and using long hose and power cords to reach the services. There is a boat launch right on the property. Right next door to the Cochiti reservation and Tent Rocks National Monument, this campground is quiet and remote. Verizon was very strong, but ATT was intermittent. We camped at Cochiti Lake COE in a Fifth Wheel.

It depends on what you are looking for. If you desire quiet & beautiful landscapes on a small high desert lake, this is the place for you. Both ATT & Verizon worked well & you'll get satellite TV if you have it. We also got strong OTA network channels. Pick your loop from their website carefully. Buffalo Grove has all paved sites with covered tables, 50A & water, but it stayed full during the Balloon Fiesta. The other loops either have gravel sites with electric & shared water (Juniper) or no hookups (Elk Run & Ringtail). The shared water in Juniper might be in reach of your RV or it might not depending on your site. Generally, those on the inner loop can hook to water while those on the outside would have to cross the road with a very long hose. Some sites are not very level but it looked like folks were getting level with the aid of blocks. Site 57 was indeed a great (& level) site but many others were good too. Only Buffalo Grove has a modern bathroom & shower. Others have pit toilets. No ground fires allowed. It's a long haul (30 miles or more) to either Santa Fe or Albuquerque and the town of Cochiti doesn't offer much. There is a reasonable Philips 66 gas station on the interstate 12 miles away with all types of fuel. We camped at Cochiti Lake COE in a Fifth Wheel.

There are many sites here with amazing, beautiful views not only of the lake, but also of the surrounding mesas and mountains. It was completely quiet during our Sunday-Friday stay near the end of the season. The restrooms were clean, but I wasn't a fan of the shower - the water was reasonably warm, but the shower head added so much air to the spray that it was more like having a cold, windy mist blown on you. The airflow from the head even caused the shower curtain to swing way out. At least there was an overhead heat lamp in the changing area. I actually stepped out of the shower to warm up under it a couple times. Otherwise this is a great place to camp.
Another reviewer commented on noise from pumps (just north of the Buffalo Grove bathrooms). I actually thought it was insects the first couple nights, so it's not an offensive sound at all. You'll only hear when it outdoors on a calm night.
There is a very strong Verizon 4G signal here.
Note the Buffalo Grove loop has 50-amp and water at each site. This loop has the best views if you want electric. The Juniper loop has electric but the water spigots are not site-specific and can be up to 100 ft from a site. Elk Run and Ringtail Cat have no electricity. Ringtail Cat sites are the closest to the lake. We camped at Cochiti Lake COE in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Be sure and check out Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument (only 15-20 minutes away) and take the slot canyon trail. The slot canyon is a treat as are the endless views once you get to the top.

We just stopped for an overnight from Carlsbad to Mesa Verde, CO, and we were pleasantly surprised with the park. We drove around to look for an available site and settled on a nice pull-through, but didn't realize that 3 of the 4 loops are dry camping only, no electric, so we had to conserve power that evening. We really loved this area, it's quiet and peaceful with pretty views. The bathroom showers were clean and had a solid door that locks in each stall for privacy. I noticed overhead there was also a large heating lamp, so they must use that in cooler weather. We work online, so Verizon coverage is important to us, and we got strong LTE data signal here. Just up the road, there is a gas station with competitive gas prices (with diesel too), a mini-mart inside, and a laundromat next door. You are on a native reservation, so the people in the community seem to know each other and are very friendly to visitors. If we are through this area again, we will make it a point to stay for at least a week next time, in the loop with electric hook-up. We camped at Cochiti Lake COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

The Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument just a few miles down the road is worth a drive and a nice hike. There is an easy paved 1-mile loop trail, and also a more challenging additional mile hike to see the formations from the top. There's also the Veteran's Highway and takes you to another nice scenic point at the top. It's worth a visit.

We really enjoy this campground. We had a level site with a great view. The only issue was web site information that said we needed 100 ft of hose because there are shared water hook-ups. What we found was a water hookup 100 ft across the road. We had to fill our tank, rather than be hooked up to water. That should have been made clear.

This is a strange campground. There were 3 tables and grills for 2 camp sites in some places. The restrooms are clean, but the one in our loop, Juniper, was closed and the next one had metal toilet bowls with no toilet seat. The newer loops are nicer but the sites are closer together. We will stay here again. We camped at Cochiti Lake COE in a Fifth Wheel.

This fairly remote location in the high desert provides great views of nearby mountains, quiet nights, and access to a large lake. Interior roads and sites are all paved; however, some sites (ours was one) are badly sloped to the point of being impossible to level even with a number of leveling blocks. The campground hosts were not particularly friendly, and our site required a cleanup of trash and gravel that was piled on the table. Be prepared for wind here, as you're on a bluff above the lake. Services and dining are about 30 miles, but Verizon cell and data worked well. An OK park for a short visit, but for us the remote location and mediocre facilities didn't outweigh the low rate and we'll stay elsewhere. We camped at Cochiti Lake COE in a Motorhome.

On the website there were only walk-up sites available in newly renovated Buffalo Grove Loop, so we arrived early and was able to secure one of two walk up sites. You go to site and then at 4 o'clock you go to office to pay. Office only open 2 hours in am and 3 hours in pm and pay box is not usable as sealed. Most back-in sites appear level but pull thru sites aren't level which is surprising for COE park.

Sites in Juniper Loop are smaller and older. No campground sign at entrance on highway. Turn at recreation area, pass visitor center and turn at campground building as going straight leads to very steep boat ramp. All sites have covered cement picnic table, paved driveway, with views. Overall, a great campground and we experienced wind daily, which is probably why there are wind socks and wind alert lights on lake. Will return! We camped at Cochiti Lake COE in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Tent Rocks is amazing and very close. Laundromat, gas and diesel, convenience store, golf and fishing within a mile. Santa Fe is half hour.

This park is beautiful. The park sits above the lake with incredible views of the mountains from every site. Great sunrise and sunsets over the mountains. The restrooms are old, but very clean. Our site, 58, was a pull-through. Concrete pad with gravel around. The picnic table is on a concrete pad with a metal cover, with a grill near by. We had water and electric. We camped at Cochiti Lake COE in a Motorhome.

This facility is wonderful. We camped in a 39 ft Motorhome. Entry road, and sites are paved. Sites are mostly level with shade built over each picnic table. Cement patios in main loops. Some loops have 50 amp power and water, other loops have 50 amp elec with random water spigots, and some loops are for dry camping. Dump sites are in two locations. Bathrooms with showers are spotless. Tent Rock's "Slot Canyon Trail" is spectacular and free with golden age pass. Fee is $20 per night but $10 with Golden Age Pass. Public laundromat and small market are less than one mile away. We camped at Cochiti Lake COE in a Motorhome.

This is indeed a jewel! All of the sites I looked at in the upper loop had both electric and water. There was a water line break while I was here, but they worked fast to fix it, and that is a small interruption. Best part are the great views of the lake and mountains in the distance. Sites are mostly level, paved, and well-spaced apart. No activities, but a lot of peace and quiet, which is just what I like. Excellent Verizon service. Price is for seniors and water and electric site. We camped at Cochiti Lake COE in a Motorhome.

The rate reflects a 50% federal Senior Pass discount. This COE campground has a lot of things going for it, but some downsides. The campground is an easy drive from Interstate 25. The surrounding area is spectacular high desert. The signage to the campground could be better, but you will find it without too much difficulty. The modern loop with electric hook-ups is Buffalo Grove loop. Juniper Loop also has sites with hook-ups. There are no sewer hook-ups, but there are convenient dump stations. Some sites have views of the lake and some have views of the beautiful surrounding area. It is quite and fairly dark. A very strange thing is that in the Buffalo Grove loop the sites have a pole with a light. When we first arrived, we were very concerned that we would have a bright light shining in our RV, but it turns out that the light is very, very dim. We do not understand why the COE would spend the money to put in something like these lights. Regardless, they turned out to not be an issue. It is a great base for visiting Tent Rock National Monument, a must-see attraction. The negatives are that there is a loud pump and noisy valve near the restrooms in Buffalo Loop. You can likely hear it from other loops as well. There is also something very strange going on with the reservation system. When we were there the sites were supposed to all be first-come, first-served, but some of the best sites had reservation tags. We asked a ranger that was driving through and he also indicated that there should be no reserved sites. We went on-line and some of the premier sites were shown as reserved even during non-reservation periods. We had a very strong Verizon signal for both voice and data. Satellite was not a problem as there are no trees. We camped at Cochiti Lake COE in a Motorhome.

First, I can't speak to the restroom issues - didn't use them. But the views cannot be beat. And our site had water and electric. I wouldn't think this would be as great in the summer, although you could use the electricity for air conditioning, I supposed. The picnic tables have nice covers over them for shade, there are nice concrete paths from the camping spot to the table area, it was wonderfully breezy. Our spot is quite private. The check in lady was so nice. If I wasn't worried about snakes for us and our dogs, I would give this a 10, no question, but I do worry about that here. But we would most definitely return here in the future. And a little tip: spot 57 in the Buffalo loop is Amazing. We camped at Cochiti Lake COE in a Travel Trailer.

Beautiful park with paved sites, great views, quiet, and friendly staff. Verizon cell signal strong and with wifi card service was good. TV channels good over the air. Picnic tables are very nice and covered. BBQ on a stand in very good condition. Park is well maintained. Not all sites have water. Dump stations are available. We would stay here again and for more than one day. We camped at Cochiti Lake COE in a Travel Trailer.
