We just love staying here. We stay in the East campground. The sites are long and spacious with beautiful views. We use the 30 amp sites in the east campground because we like the sites better there. Thw est campground has 50 amp sites. The wifi worked fine. For us, it is a magical place. It is great to see the deer and antelope. Some years, we have seen wild turkey and elk. We camped at NRA Whittington Center Campground in a Motorhome.

This facility is open to the public. Anyone can camp here. I chose the West Campground and found most sites level. Very secluded and quiet. The campground has large sites, 50 amps, full hook up, but could use a little TLC. If you are a shooter this is paradise. There are numerous ranges and they were empty while I was here (they say only busy for events). It was great! Unfortunately, the road to the mine is currently closed due to fire hazard. Personnel is extremely helpful. We camped at NRA Whittington Center Campground in a Motorhome.

Stayed here overnite while traveling through. Park is 5-6 miles out of town. Utilities were good, no cable TV but good reception with antenna. Internet worked well most of time. Site was gravel and slightly unlevel, looked like most sites will need some adjustments. The park was not crowded since it appeared there were no large groups using the facility. Spacious spacing of sites. Scattered trees but not much shade. We camped at NRA Whittington Center Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Drive thru NRA facility to look for animals, also gun ranges are interesting to view. Also take a look at the gun museum. Brunos pizza in Raton is very good.

Our first time here, but we were impressed. Just outside Raton, and a short drive on a well maintained dirt road, we had a very nice pull through site with plenty of room. The site was level and all of the hook ups were properly placed. There are huge buffers between other campers-one of the most spacious campgrounds we have ever been in. Check in at the guard station were quick and efficient. We camped at NRA Whittington Center Campground in a Motorhome.

Friendly and informative staff. Campgrounds are about two miles into the property over hard packed gravel/dirt. Campground roads are gravel. West campground is 50 amp full hookup, $35/night, no other amenities. East campground is 30 amp full hookup, $32/night, also has bathhouse and laundromat. Electric only sites-available only for competitive matches are $22/night. Primitive campground, $12/night. Sites are mostly level/minimal slope. They also have cabin rentals. Free wifi in both full hookup campgrounds as well as various buildings. The wifi worked well but campground was almost empty. Public phones in various buildings. Daily range fee is $20/person, Veterans shoot free. You are your own range officer. Rules posted at the ranges. Verizon signal good. Several OTA TV channels. No cable. Lots of room to hike/walk dogs but be aware of your area as there are multiple shooting venues where live fire can be going on at any time from dawn to dusk. No open fires. We camped at NRA Whittington Center Campground in a Motorhome.

Campground was immaculate. Employees at the center treated everyone as if they were family. I was there for 5 nights so I could shoot 4 days, but I only got the first morning before the rain started............and it rained 24 hours a day from then until my reservation expired. I will stay here in the future........even if I'm not shooting. No discounts for me on camping, but was able to shoot for free because I'm a veteran. We camped at NRA Whittington Center Campground in a Travel Trailer.

This is a very quiet campground with spacious sites and lots of room to walk on the lightly traveled roads. We have been here before and love it. Wifi is now offered and is pretty good. We also had a pretty good Verizon cell service. We camped at NRA Whittington Center Campground in a Travel Trailer.

I've been staying here for about 10 years and like it here, with some reservations. There are two sections - East is 30 amp and sites are level with no trees. West section is 50 amp which is a recent (3 yrs) improvement. WIFI has been added this year and is generally reliable, but probably depends on how full the campground is. The big problem with the West CG is that at least half of the sights are not level and many have trees and limbs that hinder the entry/exit and use of slides. Don't know why they don't make this CG more usable by doing some relatively low cost improvements. Otherwise, many sites have great views. Each site has a picnic table, but otherwise no other improvements. Have to say sites are "rustic". You don't have to be an NRA member to stay here. We camped at NRA Whittington Center Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Raton is a small town but has a K-Mart and full service grocery. The Whittington Center has a gun museum and small shooting apparel/accessories store. Many historical and geographic sites within a days drive. A couple of old coal mining towns, Capulin volcanic monument, Folsum of arrowhead/spearpoint fame, etc. Cimmaron an old wild west town. Area was once a Mexican land grant of 2 million acres +/- and about 585,000 acres are currently owned by Ted Turner.

Wow. Others have said nice things about this place, but we were still impressed. Quiet, hardly anyone else there except a few trailers on the other side of the West campground and a couple in the East that looked like employee's homes. The loop site we stayed in was a bit downhill into the site, so we scraped a little going in with our 45' fifth wheel. I would recommend one of the pull-through sites on the level portion of the campground for larger rigs, but we were happy with ours. The site itself was very level, and we felt secluded. Gorgeous view of the valley, saw deer and an eagle. We liked it so much we stayed a second night. Nothing open except the shooting ranges and the museum in the winter, but the museum was free and interesting. We camped at NRA Whittington Center Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

There's a trail head for part of the Santa Fe trail, which runs through the property. The museum was interesting and had several beautiful firearms along with a collection of historical ones.

We found NRA Whittington Center through the AllStays app while looking for an overnight stop during travel through New Mexico. What a great find! A huge complex featuring a gun museum and very nice gift shop. The staff is all very friendly and helpful. As previous reviewers mentioned, there are two different campgrounds and they are located quite a way from the main road via a dirt road. No issues. The campground features some shade trees at sites. We stayed in a very nice pull through that was long enough to include our 34 foot rig and tow truck. Although ours was a one night stop, NRA Whittington is on our list for a future longer stay. We camped at NRA Whittington Center Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Awesome country side setting, the smell of the plants and spotting occasional wildlife. The caveat for me were the shooting ranges open from dawn to dusk. You do not have to be an NRA member to stay, but being a life member it was a very cool experience. The drive from the entrance to my site was about a mile of dirt and a bit rough in spots but not an issue. We camped at NRA Whittington Center Campground in a Motorhome.

This is an incredible campground. The sites are long and very spacious. The views are amazing. The wildlife is incredible. There are lots of places to walk. The facility itself is immense. You do not need to be an NRA member to go to the campground. You do not need to enjoy shooting to enjoy the campground but if you do enjoy shooting, the ranges they have there are amazing - see their web site for more information. The RV park is very easy in and out. This is our favorite park. However, it does have its shortcomings. There is no WiFi in the park - you need to go a short distance down the road to the shotgun/cafeteria building to get WiFi but the WiFi there is very good. Some of the sites are not very level - make sure you ask for a level one. The west campground is all 50 amps and the east campground is 30 amps. The east campground has a couple of cabins. You will see deer and antelope. We have also had turkeys going through the campground and heard elk bulging in the morning. It is a magical place. We camped at NRA Whittington Center Campground in a Motorhome.

We camped in the West grounds which have 72 sites and 2.5mi. off the paved highway. They are the more primitive, full hookup sites, but no other public facilities. East grounds have facilities. Roads and sites are gravel and well maintained. Most sites are level, have plenty of length, width and spacing from other sites. Some sites have shade a portion of the day. Utilities are up to spec and conveniently located. The main destination for this complex is it's shooting ranges, outdoors and remoteness...we seldom heard any noise. We camped at NRA Whittington Center Campground in a Motorhome.

The NRA Whittington Center has two campgrounds - one with just 30amp and where the bathroom/laundry room is located. The other one is the 30/50amp (and where they charge $3 more per site) and no bathroom facility. They both have full hookup, pull through sites, fairly good size yard and beautiful scenery. Our electric was good and the water quality good as well. There is no Wifi or cable, no pool, play area, or dog park. Of course the main reason for coming here is to shoot - that's your recreation. There were some shooting facilities that were closed and that is where I took my dogs to walk and run (watch out for skunks and cougars (I was warned about them but did not see any), but did see skunks.) We camped at NRA Whittington Center Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Raton, NM is the closest city however there is no grocery store or Walmart there; we had to drive into Trinidad, CO for shopping. Raton is close to Cimarron State Park and Angel Fire, NM. Also close is the Highway of Legends Loop and Cuchara Pass in Colorado.
