Overall Rating:

Campground is about 25 miles south of I-10 in far western New Mexico. Arizona State line is about 1 mile west of the campground. Each site is a double side-by-side, but the sites are so large that there is absolutely no crowding, with one RV at one end and the other at the other end. Easy in, easy out with level gravel sites. Pulled in, unhooked, and was ready to go. Power, water and sewer was excellent. The Chiricahua Mountains in Arizona are about 5 miles to the west. ATV/UTV's can ride from the campground to Portal, AZ and up into the mountains in about 15 minutes. Good rock hunting, bird watching, and dark sky campground for astronomy. Owner's extremely nice and helpful about what to see and do in the area. Lots of hard work has been done to make this into a premier campground that is out in never-never land. Don't miss the Chiricahua Desert Museum about 5 miles south of the park. Area is heavily patrolled by the Border Patrol, so security doesn't seem to be an issue. Caution: Campground is in a high desert valley between two mountain ranges; it gets very hot here. I would consider this an excellent fall, winter, or spring campground. Only issue seemed to be WiFi, which the owner was having some difficulty with at the time of our stay. Would highly recommend this campsite to anyone staying in the boot-heel of New Mexico. We camped at Rusty's RV Ranch in a Fifth Wheel.

Night sky lover? This place. Is for you. Folks with large telescopes camp here. Beautifully kept grounds and facilities. Dog run and hiking path. Friday night potlucks. Fabulous elevated large hot tub under the night sky. Many borders also were camped here. We camped at Rusty's RV Ranch in a Travel Trailer.

Overall a nice little resort. Spaces are long and level for our 40' coach. This park is known for very dark skies to observe the stars. Utilities worked well and were placed in the proper place. We camped at Rusty's RV Ranch in a Motorhome.

We had a fun time watching the Superbowl with fellow campers and the folks that run the place. Management provided nice snacks and a good TV and lounge area. There are many beautiful places to hike nearby, particularly the Cave Creek Canyon. The small town of Rodeo is straight out of a Clint Eastwood western. There is a small restaurant in nearby Portal, AZ, that served us a very good omelet and latte for breakfast. The WiFi was spotty at our site, which wouldn't have been so bothersome, but our Verizon cellular coverage was poor, too. (We have decided to install a cell phone signal booster on our rig.) But if you don't care about Wifi, this park is 100% wonderful. And BTW, there is only one shower and one toilet, so if you aren't self-contained, that may be a problem, though it didn't impact us. We camped at Rusty's RV Ranch in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Some sites have an adjacent fire ring, some do not. Management requests that shades be closed at night to accomodate the dark skies needed by the astronomy buffs who set up their equipment in the park. There is a 1-mile walking trail around the property perimeter. And be sure to check out the newly-acquired pair of black swans in the pond.

Rate shown is for a month (4 weeks.) Electric is metered and is 14 cents per kwh. Regular rate is $26.40 per day. We were in Site #3 in the front of the park. Site was level and very long. Sites are in pairs, but the hookups are staggered so that your RV is not right next to your neighbor. All interior roads are dirt, and were a little bumpy because the area had more than normal rainfall and it was ongoing. They are wide, and navigation within the park is easy. Utilities worked well; we had two power bumps during the time we stayed there. Wifi is sporadic, and it does not seem to matter which part of the park you are in. There are trees in the park, and some ornamental shrubs, but there is no shade for RV sites. The park is a "dark skies" park; no outside lights and all RV shades/blinds must be down at dark. There are quite a few astronomy buffs who spend time in the park. There is a Friday evening social - the owners provide an entree, and residents of the park provide a side dish. Closest grocery store is Lordsburg, 45 miles away, and it is about 55 miles to a Walmart in Douglas AZ, so meal-planning is advised. The owners of this park work very hard to make sure each visitor's stay is a pleasant experience. There are a few long-term residents, but all sites are neatly kept. We will continue to stay here when we visit southern New Mexico. We camped at Rusty's RV Ranch in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Shakespeare Ghost Town outside Lordsburg is a must to learn about the history of the area. Lordsburg also has the Hidalgo County Museum. Bisbee AZ has Queen Mine (tours are given), and Tombstone, where you can see a reenactment of the gunfight at the OK Corral. Silver City has antique malls. We drove to Duncan AZ to Germaine's, a store/museum/collection housed in a large area with little organization, but it was fun to prowl through the "stuff." Douglas AZ has a golf course.

The lovely view of the stars is dizzying - in a good way. The nearby canyon/National Forest is absolutely magical. I highly recommend taking a day or more to enjoy this canyon in any season. Also, the reptile museum is a must see. The staff is friendly. We will be returning for sure! We camped at Rusty's RV Ranch in a Fifth Wheel.

We live 2 hours away so booked a 3-night stay toward the end of January just to get away. Unfortunately we hit a short spell of bad weather. It was cold, cloudy, rainy and very windy. The wind was so bad the second night we were concerned it would rip equipment off of our RV. We asked and were granted permission to move our coach to face away from the brunt of the wind. That helped, but we still rocked most of the day and night. We attended the Friday night potluck and enjoyed the meal. The owner and her staff are all very friendly, helpful and eager to please. The RV grounds are clean and tidy. Spaces all seem to be dirt, but smooth and relatively even. Our assigned spot had amazing views of the Chiricahua Mountains whose tops were covered in snow. There is a duck/goose pond near the end of the park where we stayed. The geese could get a bit loud, but they didn't keep it up. They are kind of like watchdogs. If someone approaches they make noise, but then they quiet down. There is free wifi, but no cable. The wifi could be quite slow at times, but we managed to do what we needed. We would stay again in better weather. We had looked forward to the night skies, but the weather was not cooperating. We camped at Rusty's RV Ranch in a Motorhome.

This place is quite remote. There is very little in the way of groceries in Rodeo - 6 miles south, and the closest gas station is 20+ miles away in Animas. Be prepared.

Nice, clean park in a beautiful, remote setting, gracious staff and spacious sites. I loved the jagged mountains rising out of the rolling desert. Small, but functional clubhouse has satellite television, kitchen with coffee, a bathroom, a pond and aviary. Good internet met my requirement nicely. The park would have been great for stargazing except for the Christmas lights, temporary Border Patrol checkpoint and a full moon perfectly haloing a rounded peak before rising to erase a gazillion stars. My only concern in a dry rig was the single bathroom, but will make it a point to come back again. We camped at Rusty's RV Ranch in a Truck Camper.

This is a dark sky, solitude, quiet RV park. Those annoying battery power lights and lights strings are not allowed here. Without a major city or a residential area within 50 miles, the night skies are dark here. The place is absolutely quiet. There are no trains, buses, trucks, planes or boat traffic to disturb the natural sounds blessing this place. A number of improvements have enhanced the grounds including a new gravel, gated entry off the main road. The clubhouse now has an enhanced outdoor patio area, excellent Wi-Fi is available through-out the RV Park. During our stay the pond was being renovated. Panoramic views of the surrounding area is outstanding. We camped at Rusty's RV Ranch in a Motorhome.

This is a wonderful park. The spaces are 100 feet long pull through so there is no problem parking. There is lots of space. There is an aviary and park that is very relaxing. Rusty herself is a hoot.

There are two unique characteristics of this park that I love. It is a dark sky park. You may not have any exterior lights or unshaded windows after dark. That is so that one can go out and enjoy the stars. It is truly amazing.

Second is the birding. Not only on the park, but just west is a large reserve. Wonderful. We camped at Rusty's RV Ranch in a Motorhome.

Rodeo is small. There is a combined restaurant-grocery that has just the minimum. The food was good, but not much in supplies. There is no gas in town.

The reptile museum is amazing. You must visit it.

Rusty's RV Ranch is a nice little oasis in the desert. We stayed 3 nights. Sites were okay, but spartan. Seemed to have a lot of wasted space, but plenty of room for our RV and Truck. The Laundry/Clubhouse has a small pond with some caged birds, there is also another pond in the park. We were invited to a talapia dinner on the patio of the clubhouse one of the nights we were there, pot luck. Everyone was very friendly.

This is a "Dark Sky" park, and the stargazing was spectacular. Tons of birding opportunities in the surrounding area: we were even given hand-drawn birding map at check in. We camped at Rusty's RV Ranch in a Travel Trailer.

Great campground. A truly great place to stay. Very long parking sites for the RV, good hookups. Spacious sites add to the experience. Very nice dog run on the west side of the park. Outstanding skies for astronomers, lots of rockhound locations nearby, bird watchers delight. Also great for ham radio!

Easy to get here, take exit 5 south off I-10, go 25 miles and enter on the right. We camped at Rusty's RV Ranch in a Fifth Wheel.

Rate reflects one week at weekly and two days at daily. This is a very comfortable place to stay. Two hundred foot long spaces, hook-ups conviently placed. Owners the best, friendly, knowledgable, and considerate. Dirt/gravel roads and spots. Level. There is a clubhouse with shower, and the owners host a pot-luck Fridays, supplying main course, and campers providing side-dishes. Very tasty and you get to meet other campers. There is a swim/spa which is nice to soak in after a hard day of hiking or bird watching or sitting in the sun. This is a 'dark sky' park, meaning no lights emiting from your RV after dark. The sky out here is amazing. Each space has a table and a fire pit. We will be back here for sure. It is about 50 miles to a large grocery store and about 40 miles to the nearest gas station, so plan ahead. WiFi was great (and free) and water pressure was good. No pool or kid's play area, but there is so much to do in the area that it will not be missed. We camped at Rusty's RV Ranch in a Motorhome.

This was our second stay at Rusty's and the news must be getting around because it was much more crowded with snowbirds and other semi-permanent residents than four years ago. The sites are huge and the setting is spectacular (if you like high desert and mountains). Wifi was mostly good but slowed down at busy times. This is the perfect spot to stay while visiting the nearby Chiricahua mountains. They have a new clubhouse and koi pond, and resident geese and ducks in another small pond. This park is a gem for desert lovers and night sky watchers (they have a dark skies policy). We camped at Rusty's RV Ranch in a Motorhome.
