Pros: Surrounded by pine forest with abundant deer; staff friendly, helpful; RV sites are level; close to tourist areas in Ruidoso & Ruidoso Downs; casino 4 minutes away. Bathrooms/laundry appeared to be clean and operational. Cons: RV sites are 70% dirt & 30% gravel which is ok unless it rains; hookup posts/sewer connections are at the back of the site requiring extra hoses/power cords to reach; RV sites are extremely close together leaving barely enough room to maneuver the RV or your tow vehicle; we could not use our outdoor kitchen because we could not open it without hitting the slideout of the 5th Wheel in the site next to us! Little to no privacy. No picnic tables or fire rings. Although I did see several Class A Motorhomes, I would not say this RV Park is big rig friendly. The day we left, I thought I was going to have to ask several people to move their tow vehicles just so I could get out of the park without hitting one of them. Luckily, the vehicles moved before we left. "Rainbow Lake" is actually a natural pond enhanced with a cement ring which is currently in the process of being drained and refurbished. If you camp here, ask for a site on Mud Canyon Rd as they are more secluded and spacious. We camped at Rainbow Lake RV & Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed at this park over Thanksgiving. Our experience was excellent. Our campground host was unbelievably helpful. We had three or four issues since we are newbies and he came over and helped us with them immediately. Without him we would have probably had to go home early. Will definitely return. We camped at Rainbow Lake RV & Resort in a Motorhome.

Pretty location but poorly run and managed park. Dead fish floating in pond, laundry room filthy, restrooms scary dirty. Cable tv BARELY audible. When we mentioned anything wrong they acted like we were being difficult. It is in a beautiful spot, but show me a spot in ruidoso that isnt beautiful. We camped at Rainbow Lake RV & Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

Our site was nice, and the campground location was very convenient to downtown - just minutes from restaurants and shopping, but customer service was lacking. When we made our reservation, no one told us there was a Good Sam discount (we're new RVers and don't always remember to ask), so we missed out on that. We arrived in the afternoon to find a note saying the office was closed due to illness, and no instructions for incoming campers was provided (for example, an envelope with directions to our site, bathroom lock combination, etc.). We tried 3 posted contact numbers (several times), all of which went to voice mail. Eventually a park host responded with the bathroom combination, but he didn't mention that it was different from the laundry room combination, so we were locked out of there. There are only 2 bathroom/shower rooms, so if 2 people are showering, no one else can use the restrooms or showers. The restrooms were clean, though, and showers had great hot water. Hookups were solid, but wifi was weak - often wouldn't work. And over-the-air TV reception was weak. When we checked out, staff was friendly, but check-in situation was less than professional, so we're unlikely to stay here again. We camped at Rainbow Lake RV & Resort in a Motorhome.

We had our family get together and some brought the campers and we were lucky to get the large cabin. They let us use the Party Room to celebrate a 30th Anniversary which we had not planned to do. New owners are making some great changes. The manager was so helpful with all our questions. Had to get help with setting up some of the cable boxes. We're not used to having free wifi. Loved the friendly atmosphere. Clean both rooms. The pond was a little murky since its coming out of the winter, but the fish ate us out of quarters. This was my kids favorite thing to do us feed the fish. We are planning on making it a yearly event. Quiet place to stay. Have already booked next year stay. And will be going back in the summer just me and my husband for our anniversary. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️This place. We camped at Rainbow Lake RV & Resort in a Cabin.

Rustic campground. Gravel mix road and sites. None are really level. Most are sloped gently. There are bears in the area, so keep food and pets protected. We have stayed here twice. Only issue is cell service is not good regardless which provider you use. We camped at Rainbow Lake RV & Resort in a Motorhome.

Pros: It's good bang for the buck. The scenery is beautiful. The park host was amazingly friendly and never failed to give a friendly wave and a smile.

Cons: There is nothing here for kids. They have a ton of patios for grilling. A playground would have helped a lot. The office hours are terribly inconsistent. Even during advertised hours, the office was closed. The wifi is extremely spotty and unreliable. They advertise free cable, but all I could get was local channels. I will probably stay somewhere else on our next visit. We camped at Rainbow Lake RV & Resort in a Motorhome.

Only went into town once. I hope they will increase amenities here. If they did, the negatives would seem much smaller.

They really pack them in here, side by side in most sites, 5 feet to neighbor. At check in clerk failed to tell us about the $5 refundable deposit for a bathroom key, so I didn't get a shower. Park has poor grounds maintenance. Most sites not level. Stayed here because casino is 3 min away. Pretty setting next to forest. Has potential but needs work. No picnic table or cooking grill. I have stayed here in everything from a 35' motorhome, a truck camper to my current travel trailer. The staff is excellent, spaces are fine and the facilities are always clean and neat. Park host can assist parking anything in the chosen space. This is a destination type park. You go here to stay here and do lots of sightseeing. Rules are enforced against loud music and inappropriate behavior. I would be completely at ease bringing any age camper here. Nestled in against the forest with plenty of hiking, still only a few minutes from town or the casinos. Best place to spend the Texas summers! Overall Rating:

We stayed for 3 nights but had to pay for 4 as they said it was a 4 night minimum. However the park was not half full. The sites are very close together and not very long. Wi-Fi was terrible and the cable TV did not work at our site. The sites are not very level. The best thing about the place was it is close to the casino and not far from downtown. We camped at Rainbow Lake RV & Resort in a Motorhome.

Very tight spaces. We were there in October2014, so off season. Not very busy, so it was ok. Road to get to from town was awful. If we were going back I would look at other options. We camped at Rainbow Lake RV & Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

I have stayed here before and again enjoyed my stay. Only time I wasn't happy was one weekend when some of the cabins stayed noisy till near midnight. I stayed in the rear of the park which most of the time was very quiet. Trash truck does come very early twice a week. Limited laundry to use but you can pass the time upstairs playing pool. Lots of wildlife wanders through the park. It is very close to the Inn of the Mountain Gods Casino which is handy. Stayed 3 months and will stay here again. Overall Rating:

The park has cabins and RV sites. It is very crowded. We were there in the off season so we didn't have any problems, but, it if was full, I don't know where you would park. It would also make it very difficult to move the rig in and out of your space without having other people move their vehicles. Spots by the front were very noisy with traffic. The good part is that they were very friendly. We also moved to the back of the park the second night. Those sites back up to the National Forest which is awesome. We camped at Rainbow Lake RV & Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a wonderful place to stay and get away from the desert heat. We stay here regularly. There are great activities nearby and a beautiful park about 3 miles up the road. They keep everything clean and well kept. Family friendly and pet friendly atmosphere. We will be going back! The staff is always helpful and nice. Overall Rating:

This RV park is in a beautiful location right next to a National Forest. I mean, you walk out the door of your RV, and in a few yards, you are in a National Forest. The spaces are too close together and most are not level. There are only 2 bathroom/showers, but they are nice and very clean. The staff is great. The WiFi was better than what I would expect and there was a huge selection of cable TV channels. Yes, it is a bit run down, but I would stay here again just for the access to the beautiful forest, the very friendly staff and lots of great folks who come every year. We camped at Rainbow Lake RV & Resort in a Motorhome.
